I, too, had been preparing my own returns, corporate and personal, until a problem cropped up and a friend recommended Steve Wonder. He gave me exactly the same advice as he gave Jennifer: if after review, an error is found, I got to choose whether to have him file and amended return...or to wait and see what happens. Bearing in mind that this comment refers to "honest errors" and not to "possible fraud," a recommendation to wait and see is a reasonable low-cost approach indicating that the CPA does have the client's best interests in mind. Preparing an amended return would have been costly; it would most certainly trigger IRS review; and that could trigger review of prior and future returns. Like you, I chose "wait and see," not because it was recommended but because the recommendation made good sense. As to time, Wonder & Company is a small very busy firm dealing mostly with on-going tax needs of corporate clients including the personal returns of those clients. A "knowledgeable" client would know they are buy all the time, but busiest in August/September because those are each 6-months after the automatic extension dates of Mar 15 and Apr 15; and that on open matters, IRS "deadlines" are not set in stone. My guess is that they saw you as a knowledgeable potential on-going client with a small but fixable problem, which together with your diligence in providing necessary paperwork, WAS RESOLVED for $150. Sounds like a bargain to me. And the reason Wonder and Co can provide such a reasonably priced service IS BECAUSE they have full-time clients for whom they DO meet deadlines and whose loyalty can be depended on keep a full-service CPA in business. You may need more "hand-holding" than Wonder and Co is able to provide a single-use client, but for long term professionalism, fantastic recall, and smarts, I couldn't have made a better choice.

Wonder & Company (W&C) continually dragged their feet when dealing with an IRS response that they…read moreagreed to help us with. Our first experience with them should have been a sign to find a new accountant and I'm sorry I didn't trust my gut at that point, but I'm hoping this review will help others find a reputable accountant other than W&C. My husband and I first met with W&C in late April 2012 after we felt like we had done something incorrectly on our 2011 tax filing. We explained our situation to the W&C accountant and she said she would review the documents and tax laws pertaining to our issue and get back to us with an answer. We never heard from her, in fact we didn't hear from the company again until DECEMBER 2012 (nearly 8 months after the initial meeting) when we received a bill in the mail from Wonder for $150 for the review of our 2011 tax return. I immediately called W&C and was told by the accountant "everything was correct, you filed it correctly." I was a little suspicious of this answer and wondered if our filing had even been reviewed. After talking to someone else, I was told the owner would do a review of our taxes and get back to us. After a few weeks, we were asked to schedule an appointment to go over our filing. During that meeting, we were told that we did in fact do something incorrectly and that we had 2 options 1) file an amendment to correct it or 2) leave it and only correct it if the IRS were to notice it We were advised by the firm to take the second option so we paid for the review of our taxes and left our return as it was. This was the first issue -- being told that our return was correct when in actuality is wasn't. That was bothersome. The other issues started after we received a letter from the IRS (they caught the mistake) and we had to work with Wonder & Company to provide responses - help with such was provided in the same fee we had paid to have our taxes reviewed initially. We received that first IRS letter in April 2012 and W&C responded to that one on the actual 'due date' (June 19, 2013) that had been given to us by the IRS. The IRS responded with additional questions in early July asking for a response by August 14th. This response was quite involved and required us to send several bank statements, IRA statements, rollover paperwork, etc. I worked with W&C quickly to ensure I was provided everything needed to respond accordingly. I sent final paperwork to W&C on August 1st with written explanations of each. Leading up to the response deadline I called wonder and company no less than 3 times and emailed them twice trying to ensure they had all necessary documentation from me to file on time. When I called them on August 14th and left a voicemail expressing my concern that I hadn't heard from them, they returned my call and told me that the IRS deadline was "arbitrary" and that while the IRS would like us to reply by that date, it isn't necessary that we file our response that quickly. WHAT??!!!??? On August 16th I was asked by W&C to provide additional information which I did promptly. Then I waited...for only a few days and then I began calling and emailing again because I had not been given confirmation of our response being sent. It wasn't until I went into the office on September 17th that I was told that the response had been submitted. I was told that someone would email me the response by end of day. I finally got the email (after calling 2 more times) on September 20th, another 3 days after promised, and saw that our response was filed on September 7th - 24 days after the deadline. Luckily, this final response was adequate for the IRS and they dropped their inquiry. The continued excuse we were given when calling or emailing was that W&C was under continual business tax deadlines and had to work on those business customers first to ensure that they met the tax deadlines. I guess that means that even though I'm a paying customer and also have a deadline to the IRS (which they missed by nearly a month) that I'm not as important!?! What's worse is that we accepted and offer to have W&C setup my LLC. On March 28 we were told the process would take 3-4 weeks. We received final paperwork on May 21, 2013 (7 weeks in all). We've now been told by our new accountant that our company was setup in a complex manner that will require additional tax filings and money. It's not that it was setup incorrectly, however it could have been setup more simply in order to avoid additional tax filings/paperwork/money. Moral of story - trust your gut and first impressions - they really do tell you a lot! Overall, W&C's lack of courtesy in responding to emails and phone calls as well as their delayed response to the IRS are the basis for this 1-star rating. The fact they setup my LLC in a manner that would allow them to make more money off of me should I have used them as my business accountant didn't help their rating.

I applied in December 2020, was told, because I started a new Job, even though was in a similar field, still needed to wait to submit 3 months of my Pay Stubs. Between December 2020-March 2021, I was following up with Matthew and everything was always "Everything looks great!" and/or "I think that should be fine". Matthew checked my Credit back in December and told me there was no issues with it. I planned to book my Flight to Texas and kept asking Matthew if there would be any issues before doing so. As you know, flights go up in price, so I wanted to book my Flight ASAP. Matthew never gave me any issues. Come March 5th, I provided my Pay Stubs. It took his Team until Wednesday-Thursday the following week to give me bad news! I was told, because they THEN FOUND discrepancies on my Credit AFTER THE FACT, that the INITIAL AMOUNT MATTHEW QUOTED ME IN DECEMBER WAS GOING TO COME DOWN SIGNIFINCALLY! I mean, we're talking ALMOST $265K LESS THAN I WAS INITIALLY QUOTED! I was LIVID! I was waiting for 2.5 MONTHS and THESE ISSUES SHOULD'VE BEEN ADDRESSED UPFRONT IN DECEMBER, SO I COULD'VE BEEN ADVISED TO WORK ON WHATEVER NEEDED TO BE WORKED ON IN DECEMBER, BECAUSE NOW, MY FLIGHT IS ON MARCH 21ST! I have had to reach out to other Lenders to apply with and LUCKILY, found one who finally made sense throughout this already stressful process and initiated my Pre-Approval Letter with WAY MORE THAN Legacy Mutual was quoting me! I would be CAUTIOUS when wanting to work with this Company. They lack communication, made me traumatized, and lose trust in them and in my initial Realtor.

Terry is honest, kind, and extremely caring. Two months before we ended up signing a purchase agreement, Terry walked me through the process, the closing costs, the fees, line by line. Nothing is hidden, with Grove Mortgage. Our builder's lender gave us a worse rate with twice the amount of closing costs, mostly due to the builder's lender charging ridiculous origination fees, which Grove Mortgage does not do. I have been on numerous phone calls with Terry past 6:30 or 7 pm. He makes himself available, which is so important. Terry even saved us from some shadiness that was going on with our original realtor. He has made this process much more calm than I had ever imagined.
