And if your pet is your 'fur kid' and a beloved family member who is more person than animal, pet vacations are few and far between. But into the mix comes "Pet friendly holidays". They have four pet-friendly cottages on the NSW central coast - two in Batehaven and two at Tomakin Beach. We stayed at one of the Tomakin Beach ones - Sunpatch Cottage. What makes it so pet-friendly? There are enclosed back and front yards, including a shaded doggie run if you have to leave the dog behind for a short time. Your dog IS allowed inside the house. There are throws provided for the couches and armchairs so that your dog can sit up there with you. The accommodation is NOT limited to small dogs. Two rules- no dogs on the beds (we can live with that) and you can't leave your dog alone in the house (see the dog gets a holiday too, by going everywhere with you). Speaking of the dog's holiday - how does a 24/7 off-leash beach around the corner sound? A cafe right across the road that sells yummy coffee, serves breki and has outdoor pet-friendly seating? A map of other beaches provided with their dog rules in case you want to go exploring? Seriously, my dog is not going to want to go home! For the people - 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, laundry (W/D), front and back outdoor seating areas, kitted-out kitchen, plenty of parking, pretty much all you need. Decor is ok in a slightly retro way but... did I mention the beaches?? And real-honest-to-goodness dog friendliness? And the cafe right across the road?

It was a great stay with a small kitchenette. I do prospecting in my spare time and know a lot about the history of the gold fields in New South Wales, yet on the tour they gave I found myself learning new things and tidbits of information I'd never heard before. They even have an area where you can pan for gold and I found a nice bit over my 2 day stay. Highly recommend this place for both the accommodations and the gold tour of the place given 4 times daily.

One bedroom had a king or queen bed, and the second bedroom had a queen bed as well as a single. In the living room, there's a pull-out sofa bed. They say the units sleep 6 people. Cribs and high chairs are available on request, and they had ours ready in our unit. There's a living room, dining table, and kitchen with dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, sink, microwave, fridge, freezer, small stove, and toaster. Basically everything expect an oven. In the bathroom, they provide one roll of toilet paper, and the rest is on you to buy. They also provide some tea and coffee packets. You can walk a very short distance to an IGA grocery store. The reception staff were friendly and helpful with recommendations of things to do in the area. They also let us check out board games and DVDs. There's a children's room on site with toys and books, and a little playground and sand pit outside. You can hire a boat for three hours for just $25. We thought that was a great deal and enjoyed taking our family out. My husband had never driven a boat before, but the staff patiently taught him and totally trusted him to do it on his own. Really the only negative we had was the Wi-Fi. We didn't have reception for our phone's data, so we had to buy the Wi-Fi for $10 (unlimited devises, use all week). The connection was terrible! It was very in-and-out, often not working at all. It was nice in some ways to unplug from tech, but it would have been nice to upload some photos in the evening, especially because we paid for the internet.

Very overpriced for a chewy, unseasoned steak that desperately called for a lifeguard. You're more likely to drown in their steak dish with cholesterol than you are by water in the ocean view pool. We also waited a very very very long time (and I was stupid enough to ask for my oysters at the same time as everyone else's mains). I'm only giving 3 stars because the waitress (same one on kitchen nightmares) was incredibly polite, apologetic, kept drinks topped up at reasonable prices due to our wait, and kept checking with the kitchen where our food was. Couldn't fault her service and felt very sorry for her. The pool and ocean view is also beautiful. I would recommend staying at the hotel, but avoiding the restaurant at all costs unless you want a drink. If you do dare to order at their restaurant, bring a lifeguard. The delayed review is I usually yelp-bomb every couple of years as I go through photos and experiences on my phone. I took personal photos of my loved ones out the front of the pool which I don't post for privacy reasons however the food wasn't picture worthy. I do recommend people read the most recent reviews in case there are improvements. For such a hotel with pretty views, I really hope it does improve. All my reviews are standardised to the following star ratings: 1. Customer service I.e. friendly, easy to book, etc. 2. Accessibility I.e. location, decor and scenery, easily assessable or flexible, etc. 3. Work, health and safety I.e. clean, safe, etc. 4. There is free wifi and many amenities, such as a pool, mini golf, information on the local area, etc. It is located right on the beach and if you stay in the front row of cabins you can hear the tide as you sleep. It is a five minute walk from bird land rescue animal park, a very special place.
