I purchased a StyleCraft townhome in 2021 and paid for the upgrade to add a 3 seasons room. Within…read morea few months, water was leaking near the main support post. Repairs were attempted twice within that first year, and assuming it was resolved, we installed flooring over the concrete slab. Two years later, water began seeping through the floor seams. We had to tear up the floor and found significant water damage. The leak was not properly fixed and water had continued to accumulate under the floor. I contacted StyleCraft who told me to call the company that installed the room. They came out three times and caulked everything they could. The technician noticed a split in the seam, tried to caulk it but it still leaks. The technician also informed me that although they built the room, StyleCraft installed the post. StyleCraft now claims 3 seasons rooms aren't waterproof and I should expect some water to come in. However, this issue is more than just a small leak and it has existed from the moment we moved in. I'm now left with a room that consistently has water in it. StyleCraft's work is subpar and their refusal to take responsibility should be a warning to all who are considering buying from them. This is not a warranty issue, it's a matter of poor workmanship and failure to stand by their product. According to Stylecraft, this is "normal".

I'll start off by saying Va Jack built our first and everything went well. Fast forward 5 years and…read morewe decided we wanted a more customized house. We decided to go back to Va Jack. We brought some plans we liked online and brought them to Kevin (owner), essentially same way we did before. Kevin said no problem I'll send to my architect. This is when it gets to why I'm giving them one star. The first time we built with Kevin he did everything himself design wise and didn't charge a dime. Foolish us we thought it was the exact same process. Kevin did not once mention that the architect he was giving our plans to was $5000. We were a little upset then but figured $5k in a loan was not a huge deal. When formulating our budget we told Kevin several times our max budget which INCLUDED our lot cost. Once again same as last time and something I have no idea how he missed. When finalizing our budget we were way over our max because Kevin "didn't realize" we wanted everything included. I had a text showing him that it was indeed talked about and after that he said "we ll work it out". We had to get a second plan and ended up not building with Kevin. Long story short Kevin was not willing to work with us on paying some of the fees owed on the first plan even though it was entirely his fault. Just wish he did the right thing.

The quality of the build is awful. An expensive home built cheap. They put these things up so quick. Buyers do yourself a favor, have a professional inspection completed at every phase of your build. You won't catch everything but you'll be somewhat ahead of the game. Final inspection, be very thorough.

Updated 1/19/25. After living in my house for 4 years the HVAC system has continued to be a…read moreproblem. During the 1 year warranty HVAC techs from the company who installed the system came out numerous times and fixed nothing. The 2nd floor is always freezing and the HVAC tech told me to turn up the thermostat. I kicked him out & changed providers. Since moving in the house 12/2020 we have paid a ton of money on the HVAC system. Most recently it required a $2900 repair for a unit that was not yet 4 years old. In addition to the faulty HVAC system the windows are extremely low quality. They are some no name brand single hung windows that freeze me in the winter & roast me in the summer. Cold air blows through the areas around the windows and even though I've got three room darkening panels on each window the rooms are still freezing. Last month the heat pump froze up & I was told the motor in one of the outside units must be replaced. That was the final straw. I'm getting a new & much more efficient heat pump (2 units are needed) and replacing the 16 upstairs windows with double hung, triple pane energy efficient windows. You can imagine how much this costs. $$$$$ I don't think MSH is the worst builder in the area (that would be Ryan & D.R. Horton), but you really need to keep an eye on things and don't allow poor quality items to be installed in your home. MSH used to have customer reviews on Facebook but those were so bad they removed them 2 or 3 years ago. You won't easily find Google reviews for MSH either. That should tell you all you need to know. Most people can't afford a custom builder but in this day and age I think they are the only ones left with standards. On a positive note, at least I don't have yard drainage issues like so many other MSH customers.
