Went to the range today to test my 1911, then after a while, Oly ( the manager) came in and told me the following, he said I had too much muzzle flip from my 1911 and 1917 .45, well I don't know about that, he treated me like a child, and I had been buying guns from him for 10 years at the old mosquito store, I will never go back there again. I'm in desperate need of of a downrigger terminator kit. Likely the only place in the whole county is going to be this shop, so I called them today, 6/7/2025 from 2pm to 2:45pm. No one answers the phone. Eventually, it falls out to a generic voicemail box that does not identify who the owner is. Am I calling the right number? I don't know. I do know I'm not going to waste time driving up there if there's no way to confirm they are either open or not. Customer service starts at the beginning, such as answering the dang phone, and if you can't answer the phone, a message of who it is I called, AKA, business name, your hours of operation and who to dial next since you can't be bothered to answer the line you have listed. People wonder why so many businesses fail, especially up here on the hill. I can tell you why; because they disrespect their customers, can't even answer a phone or have an answering machine inform the caller of the basics, such as who they reached, what the hours of operation are, etc. Amazon it is then, I'll just have to wing it until my idem arrives. I was up in the area for a few days, for a solo escape from the Bay. The AirBnb I rented was on the South Fork of the American River - so i decided to go buy a pole / reel combo so I could do some fishing. Mosquito Creek sounded like the perfect place. I drove 25 minutes down 50 to buy a pole. Once in the store, I waited about 10 minutes until finally Zach came to help me. He was AMAZING! I told him what i was looking for and he helped pick up the perfect combo pole. He added the line and set me up with a Carolina Rig, to get me started. I was so excited! Went back to the cabin, waiting until it got later, and then went to try out the new settup. My FIRST cast - went way to far and it snagged on a rock. When trying to (gently) unlodge the snag, my new pole snapped in half!!!!! What!?!?! I was so bummed. When I called the next day, to see what they could do, i faced a very rude girl on the phone who said they couldn't help me - I'd have to contact the manufacturer. Look... i get poles breaking can be a simple exchange. But... this was the FIRST CAST.... the SAME DAY I purchased it. It was a $49 rod.... At the very least... show some love and appreciation for someone that had just spent $100 in your store, by providing a discount on the replacement. Something... No... no offer. RUDE!!! Archery gets one star. They have old and outdated equipment and nobody knowledgeable behind the counter. Ammunition is overpriced but at least they have a decent selection. rude and unprofessional. the first time in the shop I needed some fishing gear. I found what I needed and when I came time to pay the staff was bothered and made me wait which is fine but when I finally got a worker to check me out he was very rude. I tried again to give another try. I called to ask about getting a new string on my bow and again super rude. i agreed to drop my bow off because the guy who works on bows is not in. I get to the shop and a lady shuts me out and locks the door as I'm approachin. I see people inside but everyone is ignoring me. I knock and call and same no response. as I'm leaving she comes out and rudely says we're closed. I explained someone told me I could drop my bow off. she said well everybody is walking out the back. she gets in her car and drives away. I drove an hour and a half to get some fly leaders because their website said fly fishing. One would assume that they would have tapered leaders. They had none. Not one. Nothing. When I asked the clerk about it, he pretty much copped an attitude, and said that flyfishing shops are dying. Whatever. Don't waste your time. read more

They charge whatever they want to charge they charge me $190 to receive a gun and do the paperwork somebody else called in that I knew and they said it was $150 $5 to receive again and do the paperwork they charge whatever they think they can charge and they also own the shooting range in town so I would stay away from both of them if you like your money read more

Rip off scammers. They will steal 200.00-300.00 hundred To restock if your not approved by ATF transfer. If Undetermined is ATF's response other store will give you your gun. A ATF denial is understandable, but mosquito creek would rather charge your and keep it rather than than exercise their right to give your your gun which they can if UNDETERMINED is ATF's conclusion. Went in on way through town to look for a California Legal Carry. These guys were slow as I walked in and help punctual after looking for a few minutes. Within 5 minutes 15 more customers walked in and these guys were on top of there game. I Two behind the counter and female register operator were all friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely going back to purchase more firearms from them. read more

Had a horrible experience and would highly NOT recommend this business for your firearm, hunting or fishing needs. The two male employees who work in the firearm department are super rude, willing to argue and it's their way or the highway. Purchased a gun at a local fundraiser and Mosquito Creek Outfitters was the shop that was utilized to process these guns. When I went to take care of the paperwork at their shop, I was told by one of the male employees working in the gun department that I would need one of three documents in order to start the process. Unfortunately, I didn't have any of the documents and I mentioned that I hadn't been told the night of the event anything about needing them in the processing of the firearm at their shop. I nicely mentioned that I've attended other fundraisers and it would be really nice if the gun shops would share with the people buying guns at these events, what documents need to be brought in to process guns, it would be helpful for everyone. The two male employees in the firearm department proceeded to argue with me that everyone had been told at the fundraiser. I told them again I hadn't been told and they proceeded to continue to be adamant that everyone was told that night. I mentioned that "why would I continue saying I hadn't been told this if I truly had been told". At this point, they said that I could transfer this process to another shop if I wasn't happy with them. One of the male employees expressed that their shop makes nothing on these fundraisers as I walked off and was approached by the shop manager. While walking away this same male employee proceeded to whine like a baby loud enough for the entire shop to hear expressing how he felt about me. When I asked Brittany the shop manager who was at the fundraiser if she had told me about the documents needed to bring in to finish the firearm process she indicated that she had not told anyone who purchased a gun that night what they would need to bring for the process with their shop. The two males employees heard her say this. While talking to Brittany about what had just taken place, I said to her that the two male employees owed me an apology and of course she was unwilling to make that happen. As a small locally owned shop, they don't carry the massive inventory of a Bass Pro or a Sportsmen's Warehouse, but they do conveniently carry many of the items you may need to fill out your next hunt checklist. They also house the best gunsmith I have ever used -- bar none. I wouldn't take my guns anywhere else again. Decent selection of guns for sale, but at a bit higher price than the big dealers. But, all things considered, I prefer to shop local and support my neighbors. read more

I really enjoyed going to Mosquito Creek Outfitters! They have a little bit of everything. Which is great for a girl that likes to shoot (guns and bow) and fish. They definitely enough to save me a trip from heading into the city. Which is great, because I like supporting local businesses! What's even better is they have some competitive prices. My husband bought a firearm from here and was told to pick it up today (Sat.) It's over an hour round trip for us and we we got to the store it was closed. I went there today for my first time from Tahoe to purchase a gun !! Such a awesome store everyone in there was so nice and helpful even their cute dog Doug!! Bought some accessories for our new gun and they are going to install everything so it'll be ready when we get to pick up !! Such a easy experience doing the process compared to places like sportsman where u wait for a hour or two before even getting help!! Definitely will be doing all my business there!! I called his phone and left messages twice to have a couple of upgrades done, no return call despite calling Mosquito Creek directly to find out why he didn't call back. The girl who answered phone said she gave Randy message twice. I think it's sad when a person can't show the common courtesy to return a customers call. Like almost every store that sells firearms in El Dorado County they have overpriced guns. There is no reason to pay so much extra when you can get it for the fair price down the hill. I get a local business marking things up a little, but these prices are comedy. When a simple internet search will tell you how much the gun should sell for. Kind of insulting in my opinion. I really like this place. They have good quality product and a wealth of knowledge to back it up. It reminds me of what REAL sporting good stores were like when I was younger- where the people who worked there actually knew something about fishing and hunting and were eager to share it with you. When I asked about a bow for my son, they asked me to bring him in so he could shoot a few of them and make sure he liked them before I purchased anything.... When I asked about fishing, they told me some places to go with the kids where'd I'd be sure to have a great day. I hope this local business succeeds, because they are such a notch above the chain store competition. The only thing I didn't like is that my wife found a lot of things she wanted and ended up spending way more money than I did in the store- I'll just leave her at home next time I go. read more

Very friendly staff! I went in looking for ammo. With so much ammo scarce these days its so very hard to find Winchester long rifle 22's. Of course they were out but I was told that 10 boxes were coming in a few days from now and its first come first served. Okay...now the clock is ticking......and I missed out. Boooo. What a shocker - Mosquito Creek's gun prices generally run $100 to $200 higher. I ended up buying my handgun at Sportman's Warehouse in Rancho Cordova. Went here to get a better setup for my Bow. I had no appointment but the owner Don spent several hours working on my bow. He was very knowledgeable and personable. He didn't charge me for his work just for the accessories I added. I have been back twice since to have him make little adjustments and it is always a pleasant experience. Ya know that feeling when you are low on ammo and your deciding between Walmart and Big Five knowing full well both suck? Longing for a hunting store that has ammo cases filling the isles and not a single soccer moms looking for a jock strap for young William? Keep looking. The main reason for my review was a lack of clarity and timeliness. I was on a hard deadline do to an upcoming clays tournament. I got to the tournament with the 30" barrel and my practice gun had the usual twenty inch barrel. This caused me to post my lowest ever score. But since then I have been happy with my purchase. In fact the shop even checked back in with me to make sure The manufacturer came through for me which in the end they did. And to prove their support they gave me the 30" barrel for free. It is a very smooth gun. It is also not the typical bird gun on the shelves at most outfitters. I am updating this review because the after care the shop provided and the follow through even though they knew I was upset. That shows the true character of a business. read more
