Super neat and clean camping sites. Attentive and prompt response for inquiries. Clean campgrounds and awesome place. Greg gave us an awesome tour of the area. We definitely recommend this place for kids or any outdoor venue

The largest of the two teepees here.

Camp Nauvoo is a quaint and tranquil place to glamp while leaving me feeling as if I'm somewhat roughing it! The grounds are kept up very nicely by friendly hosts Laurie and Greg. Located just 2.5 hours from the SF bay in the town of Placerville, It's a nice and easy weekend get away. There are clean bathrooms and showers, gas and barbecue grills, safari style tents with bunks & cots for four, two teepees on site, a cottage with ping pong, board games and books and magazines-wagons to transport your gear... There are a total of 16 sites all near a running creek side. What makes this place extra special are the small touches. Little gnomes adorn each tent...so cute! Saturday nights there is a bonfire in the small amphitheater in which Greg provides the goods for good ole s'mores. I highly recommend Camp Na

We just went camping with another family and this place was awesome. Private, safe & serene It had all the amenities, hot showers, clean bathrooms (huge plus) you could need for a "glamping"experience". The owners take pride in this place and it shows. Thank you Greg "grandpa" for being a wonderful host! We can't wait to come back next year. - -Vernon's

Had to get a photo with our new lifetime friend. We want to come here every year! Greg is such a warm hearted & fun host! He's kid magnet!

This place was just as cute in real life as the photos! This tippee number 3 tent is huge! Perfect for 2-4 people. We had sleeping mats, a night light, fresh sheets, towels, toiletry, and COFFEE!!! :) Greg and Laurie definitely thought things through when they opened this place up. There is another very detailed review on HipCamp that gives you a good idea of what this place is all about, I suggest reading the FAQ as well. I spent 3 nights here with my two boys 8 and 10. They cannot wait to come back to hang out with Greg. We really felt cared for here. Such a great vibe and we will be coming back every year and for longer! I think 5 nights would be perfect for us, it's so relaxing here. I suggest booking for 3 nights if you can swing it. Check in is 4-8pm so don't try and rush. If you're coming from the Bay Area, give yourself 4 hours because there will be car accidents and traffic unless you are lucky. Better to relax and not rush. Side note, American River which is about 30 mins from the camp, was such a fun time! Cold water but it's nice and clear. You can rent boats/tubes and float down the river. It is a long adventure so be prepared for 3-4 hours. We love you, Greg! And we look forward to meeting Laurie next time!

My family and I camped for two nights this past week. We stayed in the Shoshone canvas tent which had a set of bunkbed cots, and two full sized cots. Pros: The campground grounds are very well maintained with a beautiful creek, multiple canvass tents, two really awesome teepees, and multiple tent sites. We really enjoyed playing ping pong in the lodge as well as the huge assortment of board games available. There are propane grills in front of the lodge and in various parts of the campground for cooking. Cons: 1. The ladies room was not very tidy. I get it, it's camp! But the gross hairs in the sink and in the showers were gross! 2. It kinda sucked that you had to pay $35 to use their propane to utilize the campfire ring even if you brought your own from home. I understand that it was policy so we went with it. Just sucked to pay when we just filled ours. 3. Now this was a major one for me and even though I really enjoyed the campsite I do not think I'll come back... I did not appreciate the camp host/owners sarcasm towards me. Every time I passed by him, or he passed by me he directed a comment toward me that I took offense to. Such as: "I see you're making him do all the work huh?" (referring to my husband pulling a cart of our camp supplies to our site when I was clearly carrying other items...) my husband said he was just messing around so I let it go. The next encounter was the following day when the host was showing other guests to their sites on a golf cart. My family and I were minding our own business enjoying our day sitting in a circle in our lawn chairs passing around a bag of chips. Then the host stops right in front of us. I'm thinking he's going to greet us, say hi, ask how we're enjoying our stay so far, etc. Nope. He stares right at me and says, "every time I see you you're eating!" And I'm just thinking, yeah it's camp whatever guy! So I was still not gonna let this ruin my day but I actually hid my plate at dinner when he rolled around again because I was scared he was going to comment again :(. Fast forward to the evening when I brought my girls to wash up for the night and we came out of the restroom, it was dark out, and my husband who was supposed to be waiting for us was not in sight. So I told my girls that dad must have walked back to camp. No big deal. But guess who was sitting outside and overheard? Mr. Camp host who just had to say, "you probably made him hide from you" Maybe he was just being sarcastic and meant no harm, either way I took it as such.

Fabulous! My daughter was married last weekend at Camp Nauvoo. She wanted, and got, a wedding venue where her friends and family could meet and get reacquainted over 3 days. Approximately 80 of her friends camped on site, in a variety of tent cabins, teepees and flat ground. A stream goes through the center of camp and the sound, late at night, is magical. The kitchen is very close to a commercial kitchen, with large fridge and freezer space and a huge cold room. The grounds are so, so, so well maintained and there are showers with hot water. Greg and his wife, Laurie, run the camp and are meticulous. The wedding was a huge success and everyone is exhausted from 3 days on celebration. And we all wish we could go to Camp Nauvoo next weekend and do it again.

A few 20 somethings decide we want to go camping. It was a fabulous time. Family friendly, quiet and well sorted out. We had a great secluded campsite so we wouldn't disturb the families. The water was low due to the drought, but overall it was a great time. The highlight of my stay was the afternoon meadow sunlight. Good vibe only.

Mini glamp site 10

We had an amazing vacation here! We stayed Monday- Friday so we were able to take advantage of the weekday discount. On arrival we were met by Greg who had showed us around and helped bring out stuff to the mini glamping site 10. We were the only ones there all week so we definitely got more than what we paid for. It was relaxing scenery and a nice view. We got to see lots of frogs, birds, and some ducklings. Definitely recommend for anyone who wants a getaway.

Beautiful relaxing river

Spectacular campsite! This was the highest quality campgrounds I have ever been to. The inside of the glamping tents reminded me more of a hotel room than an actual tent! The beds were so comfortable, I don't think I ever want to use a sleeping bag again! I was so pleasantly surprised! Extremely clean bathroom facilities. Many campgrounds I have been to in the past were dark, dirty and infested with bugs, but Camp Nauvoo has set a new standard in my eyes! I've been camping here two different times and both times it was phenomenal. Greg is very helpful and friendly, made us feel right at home. I would recommend this to everybody who wants a hassle-free, relaxing camping experience where you can just show up and have everything ready to go! You can tell every inch of this campsite has been handcrafted with love and attention. It was so peaceful falling asleep right next to the sounds of the river. Exactly the kind of vacation I've been looking for.

Kids relaxing before getting in the water

Our little get away. Our first time camping so we did forget quite a few things but it still worked out. Greg was a lovely host and kept everything well maintained for all of us to enjoy. Camp site has the cooking tools we needed, hot water for the hot chocolate and coffee. I thought Greg was joking when he says the light goes out after 5min in the shower LoL so I didn't say anything to hubby. Of course hubby takes a shower at night and the lights went out, luckily he had brought the lantern. Oops LoL We loved listening to the relaxing water stream at night. I wished we had brought more activities for the kids, but for our first time camping...it was quite pleasant.

We so enjoyed our first visit to Camp Nauvoo! The kids had a blast and there was so much to do. They made new friends and we felt so comfortable with them doing their own thing. The lodge had lots of puzzles, games and even ping pong. We also loved having bathrooms and showers and BBQ's available to use. And don't even get me started on the glamping sites! I'm a camper but this was the best! We'll definitely be back!

Ask the Community - Camp Nauvoo

Is there a freezer or refrigerator where we can store the food ? Or do we have to bring our own ice box and use that? We are staying in safari tent 2. Also is there outlets if…

There is no freezer refrigerator access but we do have a cool room to store your coolers at night if you prefer. The Family Safari tents have electricity.

Is this camp ground pet friendly?

While we do allow pets in most of our sites, some sites do not allow pets. Pets are required to be on lease at all times.

Is there a picnic table for each tent cabin? I have my own propane stove. Am I allowed to use it?

Hello Mark, Yes each campsite has a picnic table. And yes you can use your own propane stove.

Do you share the camp with people or can you be left alone can you also hunt here?

You can do either if you book the site that is separate or close to others. Our website has a map of campsite locations.

Up Wright's Lake road you go until you've reached a top-of-the-world mountain spot called Wright's Lake. There are some hiking trails that extend you further into the nearby mountains, placing you at various lakes beneath these craggy skyscrapers, just west of Pyramid peak. We spent a night at Hemlock Lake, a beautiful little destination spot in this area for hiking and overnight camping. I hurrah this pristine little lake for variety of excellencies: first, the fishing was bountiful, and a respectful fisherperson will find themselves a tasty dinner amongst the wildlife jumping at the water's surface. Second, there is a half-rushing waterfall that cascades from higher-up snowmelt, feeding down into the lake. A short jaunt and slopey climb will catch you some of the prettiest vista-views this side of the Sierras has to offer. Surrounding both the waterfall and lake are gorgeous Jeffrey sugarpines. Put your face close to its rutty bark, and you will want to lick the delicious smell of these trees (especially for a hungry hiker). All this, but don't count on any time to sit and meditate. Half of the exercise I got out of this trip was from slapping and dancing around the mosquitos that inhabit the lush little 8500-foot lake. I won't complain, since it's not my place to judge nature, but I do largely suggest that you bring with you some sort of repellant. We used garlic cloves, which worked surprisingly well. But if nature's comfort is what you're looking for, mosquitos are only a necessary part of this package. I say, take the trip. Even if you don't like the remarkable hike or lake, there's enough camping spots and high-mountain lakes in this area to keep you and your family/friends packing here for for years to come!

It is lovely right now, but you can tell it is on the precipice of drying up for the year and turning brown and dusty. Speaking of precipices, there were many areas where the path was unstable of the cliff face had collapsed. The trail was just not well maintained and there were tons of bugs, especially mosquitos due to the sitting pools of water and long grass. Even being coated in bug spray, I found dead bugs in my shirt when I came home and my hiking partner had bugs go in his mouth and eye. We saw poison oak and although I checked my dog thoroughly for ticks after the hike and found none, she is good at staying on the trail so I would be cautious with wandering pups. Overall, the trail is moderate and if maintained would be spectacular. However, the blatant disregard for the trail is a solid reason to take away a star. The other reason is that there is no parking in the area, with the exception of the museum parking lot and we paid $10 to park over a half mile away from the trailhead on a hike that will take you an hour max. Still, while this trail was disenchating, we did drive past a few other parks and trailheads in the area with free parking that we were previously unaware of and will most likely be back another day to try those.

Someone else said it's 3 miles round trip but my Strava says 3.2 miles up from the river with 800' gain. :shrug Check out Alltrails app for more input and routes. If you stick to the pavement route, the path is very wide, two cars width and more at times. So no fears of steep drop-offs. Beyond the river, it's single track. On the dirt routes going down to the river, it's very technical and steep. Though I've never been on it, I know about K2/Cardiac Hill. LOL! If you want to explore the Western States trail that's used by Tevis Cup and Western States Endurance Race (both 100 mile endurance races one on horse one on foot), then head down the dirt trail off the horse side. If you travel a little more than 3 miles down this path you'll encounter a waterfall if there's still flowing water. Cross in the water or on the bridge (horses ok either way). But again, this trail isn't for the faint of heart when it comes to horses and their riders. Be mindful it may be too much for you or your horse. Horse side has a large watering hole that had water in it in early April 2023 (while some locations fear the horse sicknesses and have shut off water). There's also tying rails. And plenty of room to maneuver a rig. Paved side has a building with restrooms. The restroom is accessed by the paved lot but is on the side nearest the dirt lot/horse trailer parking. I don't recall it having soap or towels or hand dryers in April 2023. C'mon 'rona, give us soap even if it's the sandpaper powder! Be aware that some days there are major events and you may not be able to park there. I suppose you can call City of Auburn or just be prepared to go somewhere different such as railroad park. And if you like the scent of forest, this is a great place to get it without having to drive fully into the Sierras. It's a 30 min/ 25 mile drive from Carmichael. There are 4-6 parking areas where you can hook onto the trail. I used 4451 Missouri Flat Rd, Placerville, (free, no time limit) and went east. Dont make me regret telling you this, but if you're lucky, you might get a glimpse of the Long-tailed Weasel in this general area. Google maps shows two port-a-potty units in the parking lot but they're gone. The one located about 1-3 miles east of downtown Placerville is still there. There's a public restroom on Main St in downtown Placerville. The path is mostly smooth but there's patches of lifted asphalt, so be careful. I used the trail as a bicyclist so my review is from that perspective. The route for a road bicycle is about 23 miles if you add Placerville Rd and Ray Lawyer (this "cat's claw" shape adds 3 miles and a good climb if you are turning left onto Ray Lawyer from Placerville Rd. The route starts out with a hint of downhill but then climbs steadily. Once you get to Halcon at the end of the paved route and you return on the same route, you'll be headed downhill. Be careful carrying speed, there's some inconsistencies with the pavement. And the two bridges that you cross are rustic styled and not smooth for a road bike. There's a third bridge, paved, that goes over El Dorado Freeway/50. The trail breaks up in a few places and you use the shoulder of the road to connect the sections of bike path. The trail is open to pedestrians, cyclists (non-motorized), and equestrians. There were very few trail users which I really liked. This is a good series of trails and if your tooling around downtown Placerville, it's a great way to walk off lunch!
