Do's and don'ts of Moulin Rouge: Do not- buy a dinner ticket - dinner is mediocre and dinner portion of the show is terrible (I'm serious- like 1970s cruise line); Do not- purchase extra alcohol while there (it's absurdly expensive- we made that mistake); Do- purchase show tickets; Do- pre game before hand; and Do- expect some cheesy parts of the show. Note: this is a topless dancer show with some impressive Vegas style acts. If you want Broadway caliber dancing- go to Broadway and stop complaining. This is honestly a fun experience and I would highly recommend it (except for the dinner portion of the show which was a mistake for us (my husband and I are in our late 20s early 30s) and obviously made for people who are over 60 and may have lost their tastebuds). read more

this show is so awful!!! 1st of all we stood in line for over an hour to get seated. they corrall all the patrons into this big auditorium and make you wait to go down some more stairs then wait some more. it was so aggravating. But i said it must be worth it, right? WRONG!!! The dancers lip synced so awful their mouth weren't even matching the song. We could tell and we weren't even that close. The dancers were poorly coordinated and didnt move in sync at all. The choreography was elementary. Me and my sister were laughing so hard. A bit expensive and yes it's touristy but since I've been to France for 25 years in the summer and I have never been my girlfriend convinced me we had to go. I Expected something a bit boring. This show was offered by our travel group agent at a additional cost and I assumed it would a great. Wrong. Our party was sat down at a small dinning table for 6. How small. Very very small. No room to the right or to the left. These are kid size seats. Uncomfortable The seats are straight torture devices We ordered our food ahead which did not help. We all received the wrong dishes and had to wait, change or reheat our food. ( Don't order the Steak or fish ). Yes. My friends the food was cold. We asked Hugo, our head waiter, for a coke and he came out of no where with a big attitude. He wanted to take our wine bottles away if we ordered a soda. I offered to pay for it and he just walked away. I asked other waiters for the soda and water and nothing. In the end I had to get up and get water for our table , cutlery and so on. The rude service just made the show horrible. Never book this show through Trafalgar. Your better off going to Mc Donald's. Total let down read more

Sorry, but the Moulin Rouge just isn't living up to its legacy. We are all impressed by the history and mystique. The theater itself is well kept and atmospheric. But the show is very disappointing, I would say. Not quite two hours of mostly pointless canned music and dancing (Is that why they call it the "can-can"?), with some acrobatics, light duet and solo singing, magic, and comedy thrown in. The swimming with live pythons in a pool was interesting. I can't really agree with those who say the toplessness is done tastefully. It's done traditionally, without erotic references (they say children 6 and up are welcome to attend -- this is france after all), but OTOH the stark contrast of mostly nude women and clothed men seemed very dated and sexist. Why not make everyone show some skin if that is the point? Just trying to be fair minded here... There are so many things they could do with this show, with a built-in audience that will come to see it just for the name. It could be presented as a history of cabaret, or of paris. It could touch on current events, step up the acrobatics a la Cirque du Soleil, or really make you feel the music, while still retaining the can-can and bare breasts for history's sake. Or it could be done authentically as it was 60-120 years ago, if the idea is to experience the past. I get that it is expensive to keep all these folks employed, and I admire the large cast. Just wish they had something more interesting to do each night. A note on the dress code. Casual and up is fine. I saw lots of people with sneakers, even jeans seem to be tolerated. Long pants and regular shirts are fine, sports jackets or dresses optionally. You probably don't need to buy anything you didn't pack if you are here visiting. Unless you look like you just came in from the beach/tennis court/hiking trail etc., you should have no problems getting in, although you might want to dress up a little just for effect. read more

We've just seen Moulin Rouge less than an hour ago and I couldn't wait to write a review about my disappointment. 1. Seating - first come, first serve basis: We booked 3 months in advance and were given the worst possible seat in the house, 50% of the view were blocked and we practically stood for 2 hours after protesting about the seat allocation and was ignored. the waiter had to walk over me to pass the passage no less than 10 times and did nothing about the seating. 2. Show quality - get the cheapest ticket you can get just to tick the " i've done it" box. The show was sub-standard and I'd have paid less for a circus show that was better than the Moulin Rouge. 3. Drinks - Do not bother with the drinks option, you'll get the cheapest champagne off the shelf and you'd be better off buying yourself a bottle of water. 4. the best part of the show was a man with a dog practicing ventriloquism. Hardly worth the money spent. All and all I should have just taken a photo outside of the what appeared to be an unsafe neighborhood and left the rest to imagination. very regrettable expensive experience and I should have spent the money on a good meal instead. p.s - we booked the 11pm show and arrived well before door open(10:45). I enjoyed the show and was having a good time.... until they brought the snakes and the horses out. I didn't appreciate the animals in the show. It was very SAD and disheartening that they used tiny horses and snakes to take away from the show. With all things considered this has to be the worst tourist trap I have ever got duped into doing. From the canned music, lip singing, ridiculous choreography, cheap costumes and laughable ticket price turned the whole experience into a hot damn mess. I have seen middle school musicals with more soul. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your time or money on this laughable performance. We paid over $125 a piece for tickets. The three of us got placed at a table that is large enough for four people with another group of three. I was hanging off of the edge of the table with no room for my drink or a place to put my arms. Our view was obstructed and they serve the worst champagne I have had in Paris to date. We ended up leaving half way through the show but honestly I was ready after the first act. Awesome...if you are the type of person who typically finds high school rock eisteddfod's just too slick. Terrible, if you have ever enjoyed a quality theatre production. The 1 star is for the bottle of champagne. The four stars were lost in the following manner: - shabby looking patrons(we thought this was meant to be a special night where people actually dressed up and wore shoes, shocker!) - blinding "eurovisionesque" costumes worn in the first act. Do not arrive intoxicated as this sight may induce vomiting - out of time male dancers and meaningless singing* (*read lip synching) - the venue, feeling like you are jammed into the Comics Lounge in North Melbourne when you are actually in Paris paying hundreds of euros is just plain greedy I could go on but I trust that you have got the picture. UGH...seriously. The worst. My daughter is doing her semester abroad and really wanted to come to see the show here. We booked our tix online for the 9pm show, for just the show, no dinner or drinks. It was about 104 euros per ticket. We are here just after the horrible attacks in Paris and I will add that the MR theater did a very thorough security check before the show and did their best to limit crowds in and around the theater before the show. You do not get to see your seats online, they just give them to you when you get there. Not sure on how they determine where you sit. We arrived pretty early and were seated far off to the left of the stage with a partial view of the stage. Ummmm.....thanks! The show is best described as something that you would see on a cruise ship in the early 1980's. It is NOT campy. Camp would have been great. This is dreadful. I expected ABBA songs to break out at any moment. I actually would have liked it if they did. Yes, there were nipples. That was the good part. The rest was horrible. Circus acts from the 80's, a lady in a pool of snakes, roller skating acts, bad "singing" or lip syncing, the dancers were meh. Some were much better than others. When they were all on stage, it looked like a Miss America pageant. Some looking lost and others trying to steal the show. No and no and no on so many levels. Spend your money elswhere. read more

I made this a bucket list and went not to long ago. We booked our tickets through Viator. It was a little on the pricey side. We didn't reserve to have dinner but we did get a bottle of bubbly. Luckily we headed to the show an hour before it started otherwise we would have never made on time. It took longer than we expected to arrive. Next time we will not take a cab to Pig Alley-the subway would have been sufficient enough. Anyways, the performance is astounding. Made my eyes water. Im not sure if I will ever go again. I think I only need to see it once. It's a total tourist stop. If you get the chance to go, I recommend taking public transportation and eating somewhere else. No need to spend a ton of money at this venue, but the experience is nice. read more

I have been waiting my whole life for something so awesome. Watch out: this may be the most detailed review of the MR ever. We had tickets for the Saturday 21:00 show. We got there around 20:00. We had no wait and were sat immediately. And we got one of the absolute best tables in the building. So of course I'm already fabulously excited. They brought us champagne immediately. After that we were never spoken to again by a server, which if we had wanted to order something else it would've been very frustrating. As we were not planning to order anything else, we were fine with it. 4 other people we sat at our table, but that was expected. It was crowded, but not touching or awkward and I never felt overly crowded. The show was just awesome. The opening act with the glitter suits was good. The dancers had good posture, pointed toes, straight legs, and most of them had a great stage presence. Next was the "octopus" outfits. I liked these too. Next came the skating couple. Like everyone else has already said, they were just absolutely amazing. I was absolutely floored. Definitely one of the highlights of the show. Next, the pirate part. The feathers with the pirate stuff was kinda weird, but whatever. The girl in the snake pool was pretty cool. And it was impressive how she kept her good posture even in the pool. Next: 2 glow in the dark dancers singing in the middle of the air hung down from suspension wire. Yeah, this part was definitely the most uninteresting part in the whole show. I was definitely bored to tears for that 5 minutes. Next came the clowns. The ponies. One pony was not feeling like preforming that night, which was pretty funny actually. The next little intermission was an improv guy. It wasn't amazing or anything, but it was cute and entertaining, and it was fun that he included a few members of the crowd in his act. And then the cancan! It was fabulous! The whole reason I wanted to come in the first place! I only wish that part had been longer. There was a few more little dance numbers, and then the finally, full with the same octopus skirts, but pink this time. And lit up. It was fabulous. The show started right at 21:00 and ended at 22:40. The dancers were in shape and had a good stage presence. They were able to stay with the music and with each other in their movements, obviously a requirement for professional dancers. My only complaint was that in some numbers, half the male dancers were smiling and half were serious. I don't care which one it was, I just wanted them all to match. But a tiny minor detail. When we left, the line to get in was down the street, so I'm glad we chose the earlier show. For anyone who says they were expecting more dancing: this is dancing. There are many different types. I don't think you realize how hard it is to synchronize 40 dancers to all move at the same time in the same way. If you are disappointed that this was "like a Las Vegas show", let me remind you this IS a show! Very like one you'd see in Vegas, or like the Rockets. This was absolutely one of the highlights of my vacation, and you really shouldn't miss going. BF and I both had a fabulous night here. read more

DON'T waste your money. First of all they try to rip you off if they think you're a tourist. We were told we were buying regular price tickets which are 77 euros each. We were told we had to pay a deposit of 24 euros in advance when we got there we could pay the difference that the deposit was just to ensure we showed up for our seats. When we got to the venue we were given 100 euro tickets which included champagne. I explained to the guy at the ticket counter that we did not purchase the higher ticket price, but he told us we had no choice but to take those tickets because it was what we bought. At the table I explained to the guy again that we don't drink so it makes no sense that we would buy these tickets. He agreed to change our tickets but then tried to charge us 87 euros each. I asked to speak with the manager and the assistant manager came to talk to us. He basically tried to tell us that the 77 euros was only based on availability though it clearly says on the brochure that 77 euros is the regular price and the 87 euros is with 1/2 bottle of champagne which means the 100 euros each was for the full bottle of champagne which is what they tried to give us. The manager also told us we don't get our deposit back and that in fact we "lost it". I explained to him what deposit meant and that we were told we would we just lay the difference at the venue. Needless to say our deposit was not applied to our bill. We argued for a while and he was very rude so I asked to speak with his manager. The manager came over and was even worse than the assistant manager. He talked down to me saying things like "you don't speak English, you can't read English?" And "I'm not wasting my time with you". My cousin who is French arranged everything so we are certain of what we actually booked. She also said that they try to sell everyone the champagne to make more money and because French is not our first language they take of vantage of tourists. I can't express enough by how RUDE the management was. The head manager told me "I've Ben doing his for 30 years and you're not worth my time". I was appalled by the lack of professionalism. How do can they treat people like this and still be in business? In addition, the show wasn't even that great. They performers don't actually sing. They lip sing to music. All the dancers looked bored not really putting much into what they were doing. Everything seemed half done. I sat in ye first row so I could see everything clearly. At times you could see the dancers love kooky at each other as if they were couldn't wait for the show to end. There is a scene where a lady gets in tank of water with snakes. It was a bit cheesy that I could see all the snakes had they mouths taped shut. The costumes were dirty. I could actually see all the makeup stains and tanning spray stains on them which was quite gross. There was a moment when I wondered why some of the dancers who were wearing white had brown stains on their bottoms. It would have been a night of ok been there done that for the experience, but because the manager was so rude and insulting it left s bad taste in our mouths. Knowing that they try to take advantage of people is deplorable. read more

My husband and I went to France for our 40th anniversary and wanted to go to the Moulin Rouge. After doing some research we decided to skip the dinner but splurge to get the VIP seat pass. It was well worth the money! We went to the front door and were personally escorted through the lobby, past the lines, and to our prime seats. So no line at all! Seats were amazing. Only 2 of us at the balcony table overlooking the theater (versus 8-10 at the downstairs tables). Had a great view of the stage. Came with a bottle of champaigne and some sweet treats. The show was excellent and we enjoyed it very much. They also gave us some keepsakes which are a bit cheesy but still nice. So skip the dinner and go for the good seats! read more

I've wanted to go to the Moulin Rouge since I was about 13. Mainly because of the film. Well it's nothing like the film. It's barely even cabaret. It was cheesy and tacky, the dancers were out of time, the costumes were terrible and some of the skits were horrific. I was hugely disappointed. It's so expensive and I got what felt like a €15 show. I'm not really okay with that. There were two acts that were perhaps entertaining... and the can can. The can can was great, but of course that's right at the end at which point I was well over it and hugely unimpressed by what I'd just seen. I wouldn't bother. I'd never go back. read more

I was totally blown away by the performances, I was not expecting the acts they performed, I thought it was just going to be dancing the typical can can dance but the acrobatics performed and other surprises were just spectacular. This is the 4th time I have been to this show in Paris and while the first visits were good, this last one on the 19th December 2018 was really disappointing... the show has gone downhill. The dancers looked disinterested and looked like they were "going through the motions" almost like "here we go again sigh"... I thought there was a high standard of who they allowed to dance, maybe times are tough and they have to take anyone.... HOWEVER the acts that are put in between set changes are amazing!! True professionals.... the drummer/juggler, the couple with the ring act and the two acrobats were the hi-light of the evening! Staff were tired and worn out, one dropped a whole bucket of ice in front of us and he just kicked it out of his way and carried on, didn't come back and clean it up hence people slipped on it when going to their seats. Sorry I won't be going back, champagne was cheap and the food was bearable passable for being edible... read more

One of my FAVORITE things that I did in Paris. I got the tickets that included champagne, and the price was very moderate (about the same if you want to see a Broadway show in NYC). Upon arrival there was a short wait for the last show to clear and for everyone to be seated. We were seated on the balcony and had a center view of everything going on onstage! It was truly a unique experience. I couldn't stop staring at the stage because everything was so beautiful from the costumes, to the stage decorations to the ambiance of the entire place. The area is a bit small (I guess they wanted to fit as many people as possible). You sit at tables with your party (I went with my best friend and mom and we were at one table together). Also, do not worry about your ticket not having a seat number, the seats are assigned and you are escorted to your seat upon arrival. Overall, I would say this is something you must see if you're in Paris, it will definitely be an unforgettable experience! read more

I came here with my fiance one rainy Summer evening and had to wait in a huge lineup under the pouring rain. Once we got in, they slowly moved us into our seats and we ended up being in the front row. We had a bottle of champagne to share and were squished in like sardines with 5 other couples at our table. There were tons of topless ladies (isn't that what people come for?) as well as food (which we didn't get) and some okay dancing and tricks... I enjoyed the show to a certain degree, but not because it was terribly good... perhaps just entertaining because it was so cheesy. The men were not at all masculine or attractive, just very feminine. The cast was huge though and there were some notables. All in all, we are glad we saw the Moulin Rouge but we will never go again. It was a little overpriced and there are plenty more things to do in this wonderful city. read more

A topless girl swimming in a tank of water with a huge snake while doing some acrobatic stuff in the water ... Did I mention girls dancing topless? .... No worries ladies they have men topless also ... But it's not all dancing .. They have a Ventriloquist who was hella funny ... I don't think having a bottle of champagne had anything todo with me laughing like a crazy person ... All in all I loved the show ... It really was amazing and very entertaining .... I will say this... we had to wait in line for a heck of a long time ... First come first serve ... Dress to impress and you might get seated in the front like I did WooHoo .... 3.5 stars but rounding up just cause the show was better than I expected. A few things to note, they do pack you in tightly. If you go for dinner, you get good seats for that but then before the show starts they let in everyone else and you get random people at your table. Fortunately the ones at ours were great. But you are packed in very tightly and it is uncomfortable. I wish they would just cap it at a certain amount of people rather than packing everyone in. Despite having such a huge crowd, the service was actually extremely good. The show was longer than I was anticipating and better. The choreography and how in sync the dancing was could have been better. It's not what you'd get from like a Broadway musical or something but the costumes were extremely well done and it was very entertaining. I thought it would be touristy, which it was, but I didn't actually expect to enjoy the show that much. The food was okay, although I wasn't expecting it to be awesome. It wasn't crappy either though. I would recommend the dinner because then you get better seats (we were the first seats on the lower 'balcony' one level off the floor, which were really good seats) and the food is decent. I wouldn't go back now that I've been but if I'm in Paris with someone who hasn't seen it and wanted to, it was good enough that I'd see it again, which is a good compliment for something so touristy. read more

Definitely overrated due to the popularity of the film, this place is nice to look at from the outside and unless you're a fan of cabaret and have excess time on your hands while in Paris; then think about making reservations to watch the show and have a meal there. Located in a somewhat seedier part of Paris, the outside décor does certainly seem to draw you into it as it is the only building on that street that is decorated in loud red and black colors that scream for your attention. Outside, as soon as night time hits, a line starts to gather for people waiting to get in. Parking is horrible as well and traffic seems to be heavier in the area. In my book, it's a nice to see, but that's probably all I want to do there. read more

If you're looking for a Broadway show, this isn't for you. But if you like sipping champagne surrounded by lots of identically shaped boobs, this is your jam. The show was terrible at first, but got better. The smaller acts between the main acts were our favorite parts. Arrive early to be placed in a good seat. Dress ranged from formal to jeans and button ups. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it, but I'm not sad we went. If you want to say you've done it, then do it, but otherwise, don't. Thieves! I, a 5foot tall woman and my 56 year old mother, were threatened by a big security guard and an incredibly rude manager. This establishment is abusive! I was allowed to create my 9pm reservation through the menu section in their website by selecting the Toulouse Lautrec menu (this means I clicked on a link within the food section), yet when we showed up we were denied dinner because they claimed that the 9pm show didn't include a meal(which was not mentioned at any point during my reservation process or final paperwork), YET they WILL allow you to book through the menu section, so you think you'll get dinner, but you won't after 9pm. However, my issue isn't necessarily that they lied, which is of course highly unethical, but that they treated us as thieves and liars when we demanded our meal or a refund, they even threaten to call the police. They refused to return my paperwork so that I could check if their claim was true. They are LIARS! The show is overrated and sexist, as only the women get naked but the men stay dressed (I have nothing against nudity); the costumes are corny and the music was just old fashioned in the worse way...a disco version of Edith Piaf was used...enough said. This was absolutely fabulous in all ways!!! We bought our tickets online with no problem. We got tickets for a Tuesday show so we could miss the crowd. There was no waiting, we checked our coats and immediately went to our seats about 30 minutes before the show. Once seated, shortly we got our bottle of champagne and waited in great anticipation. Once the show started' it was totally worth the wait. As promised, it was tons of feathers, sequence and rhinestones and GREAT entertainment. The Two Roller Skaters were awesome as was the woman in the tank with huge snakes. My personal favorite was the Can Can Dancers. The audience was totally involved and clapped to the music the whole time. I gave it four stars and not five because the ladies in the show lacked diversity and only one (I think) was a woman of color. But overall, it was a GREAT show!!! read more

I wish I could give this legendary Paris attraction 5 stars, sadly this is not the case. Needless to say I was ridiculously excited to see this classic show while spending time with my family on our last trip to Europe. (Yes-so touristy, I don't care) unfortunately, the car they had arranged for us was 45 min late picking us from our hotel which was in the 7th arrondissement, a good 20 min plus drive to the Moulin Rouge, add that to bumper to bumper Paris traffic at rush hour and you've got disaster. The driver almost crashed several times while rushing us there and we arrived 10 min prior to show time. Considering all parties are required to arrive 1 hour before curtain to enjoy the four course dinner and champagne, I was a little upset to get there just as everyone in the room was finishing their meals. We were rushed to coat check and then to our table with 5 min to spare. The icing on the cake was that the maitre'd informed us they would still serve us our dinner but we must eat quickly. At that point I'd had enough and politely let him know that we would absolutely not be rushing through our meal because their driver didn't have enough sense to leave at a decent time to pick us up (you live in Paris sir, you know the traffic is epic) We proceeded to eat dinner in the dark served by waiters with flashlights (bummer) surrounded by other patrons who were trying to enjoy the show and couldn't because of the ruckus we probably caused because we constantly had waiters bringing us food. The show was nice and the performers were beautiful-of course, although I found it to be a little tacky that when lip-syncing the English portions it was clear they had no idea what the words were and just kind of moved their lips like those animatronic dolls at chucky cheese. All in all it was a major let down, I added 1 star because the show was actually very beautiful and entertaining (albeit dated and somewhat cheesy). I guess next time I'm in Paris I'll listen to my friend's advice and check out Le Lido instead. read more

This has been a bucket list dream of mine and my husband's and although I was hesitant due to the price it was well worth it! We purchased dinner and the show and were seated at a table where we had dinner just the two of us. The whole experience was outstanding- the service impeccable, the food amazing and the show incredible. For the show we had 2 other couples join us at the table which made it very cramped but we were seated first so we had the best view. From start to finish dinner was 2 hours and the show was 2.5 hours. Where do you start. Always booked, so "book" early. The line is about a block or two long. Staff doesn't give a crap of anything of you. You are crammed in like sardines. You just get a bottle of champagne. Show was ok, but you can pay 3/4 less in Vegas with a better show. But I guess we walked away with saying "been there, done that". read more

After reading all of the helpful reviews on Yelp about Moulin Rouge, I still decided to go with an open mind. Thankfully, the hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by the level of talent and when I say talent, I mean circus acts! However, I was disappointed that it was far less Christina Aguilera sexy and more Rockettes during Christmas cheesy. Nonetheless, the 1.5 hour show was great to see I'm just not so sure it was worth 109€ ($150pp)The champagne was offered with the ticket price and of decent quality but I am happy we chose to dine elsewhere. At first I didn't know what to think. They cram u into these seats that are SUPER Close to eachother so of course it gets pretty warm. You eat dinner pretty quickly and to be honest I wasn't so impressed with the food. The bottle of champagne was good and the band they have playing is okay. It takes a couple hours for the show to start but when it did I was super impressed!!!!! IT WAS AMAZING! Totally worth the wait! I've seen a lot of different shows but this was in a league of its own! It's a must see read more
