Parisian urban planners have long been expert in impression management. See for example the Hotel de Ville which was intentionally built in a style 100 years older than when the building was constructed - so it would look "Traditional and Ancient" from the minute the building opened. * * * None of the above means Aux Trois Mailletz is bad. We drank here rather than ate here ... So I have no idea if the food is marvelous or terrible. A lot of Yelpers love the kitchen here. But I DO know two definite things. 1) The cafe is just opposite from Saint Julien le Pauvre. Saint Julien le Pauvre is an old and intimate church. It looks adorable. The starters (one had the egg and the other the prawn), mains (one cod and one lamb) and desserts (one chocolate and one berry) were delicious and filling. My only hesitation is the VIP ticket. I don't think it is worth it. Yes, the seat is front and center, but there are plenty of good seats in the theater. The same meal is available below VIP, and, unless you are a huge fan of Bollinger, the lower level of price includes Champaign/wine, which would be fine I assume for most people. The VIP service was not exceptional. A server went around asking people in other sections if they wanted more rolls but just walked by our table. We asked for a second bottle of water and the server never returned. The VIP get one photo per person included. The photographer took our picture and then came over with a price list. We told him about the free photo and he looked annoyed but brought out the photo (I guess a single photo with two people counts as one photo per person) before we left. I arrived at 7:30 for the three course dinner with mineral water and champagne. It was delicious. The singer and talent during the dinner show was very entertaining. We were able to take photos during the dinner show but once the burlesque cabaret show started around 9:30, no photos could be taken after that. I was dazzled by the exceptional talent. This variety show was a wonderful theatrical experience including extravagant costumes, singing, dancing, comedy, and acrobatics. This was my favorite night in Paris.

Beautiful chandeliers came down from the ceiling. Women in feathered costumes were on stage and hanging from the chandeliers. Nudity unseen in my world at that time can not be forgotten. Needless to say I've never been to a show like that again. I can see by the recent reviews the place is not the same. Shows like Cabaret and Zorro can not replicate the spirit of the original shows.
