Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home

We've known Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home both professionally and personally for decades and…read morehave come to consider them as family. During the very sad, overwhelming and emotional times after losing a loved one, it's comforting to know that SHB is available to shoulder the task and help you and your family navigate through the storm. In confusing and uncharted journeys, it's important to have trusted and highly experienced professionals available to help. Once again, after losing a close relative last October, we are appreciative of the professional manner that the arrangements for our cousin were planned and perfectly executed by SHB.

Usually try to avoid funeral homes but unfortunately life isn't so kind and I was brought here to…read moreattend a funeral service for coworkers' father that recently passed. Driven by this location many time was pretty surprised by the ease of getting in and getting out as the funeral was promptly after the business day concluded. There were ushers helping us park cars as it was a large gathering from in and out of state that was here to bid farewell to a friend and family. The lot was pretty tight yet served us well as I didn't have to fight for a spot and was heading inside. The staircase leading upstairs from the lot that I had parked was beautiful, though we all were dressed in black attire. Two different rooms for seating and the bigger room held the casket and visitors came to pay their respects. A decently sizes funeral home that some had to squeeze by others while there was still areas for groups to congregate. I imagine that a lot of thought and preparation was put into honoring this man and this funeral home did him justice. Cannot speak to the procession the day after to the cemetery as I couldn't attend but I imagine thar it was well organized and handle the business of the Elmwood West Hartford area.

Despite my parents' 69-year marriage and our clear intention for them to be laid to rest side by side, this outcome was not facilitated. The core issue is that no one on your staff raised the basic and essential question of whether my father should be placed in a location that would allow my mother to be interred next to him in the future. We had available plots that would have accommodated this, but the opportunity was missed. Presenting paperwork to a grieving family member during a wake, without guidance or explanation of long-term implications, is insufficient. While this may meet legal requirements, it falls short of the level of care and foresight that families reasonably expect during such vulnerable moments. When I brought this issue to the attention of the owner of Carmon, I was ignored.

My sister's funeral was today. Carmon advertised the ability to view her funeral remotely. A few…read moreminutes into the funeral, the feed stopped working. Called the help line and the video service person said they were having technical issues so we were shut out of seeing her funeral live. Also, the feed did not allow us to remotely give a tribute to her. This funeral home needs to come into the 21st century. How many interactive services are now available (zoom, Skype, facebook messenger, etc). I hope this funeral home makes a change to an interactive service for reliability and to allow for remote tributes.
