Awful terrible hospital! The ER nurse was nice but once I was admitted everyone was extremely rude. The RNs are rude, slow and unhelpful. One nurse tried to search my bag and accused me of taking my own medicines. Another doctor said he found opioid in my urinalysis even though it was not on my chart when I checked. Everyone is so very quick to blame the patient here. My poor roommate was left on her bed pan while her nurse went on break and the covering was nowhere to be found. And then there is Dr. Alwaya - who is an inefficient doctor at best. He's rude and inconsistent. He cuts the patients off and speaks over them. Asking them how they are without actually listening. Dr Alwaya doesn't care if his patients get well, only that they pay up and get out without causing him any trouble. He's accusatory and misguided. Truly the worst doctor I have ever come into contact with. They'll say it's because they're busy but it's truly because they do not give a shit. read more

This hospital sucks, there is no way to sugarcoat it. When I was admitted several years ago for food poisoning , to the point where I blacked out and couldn't stop puking bile every 2 seconds, making the bathroom my second home, they literally made me sit in the waiting room for over 2 and a half hours, knowing that it was getting worse and worse by the minute. I will never forget how long it took them to prepare a bed for me, and how many unnecessary scans/testing they made to do, when it was obvious that it was just a severe case of food poisoning and nothing further, you could of only imagined how high my bill was, luckily I had insurance at the time. all they did was give me some iv, and some apple sauce, and told me to stay on bed rest, I went through all this long wait and hell just for that? ridiculous! then I had an accident in February of 2014, where I had a nasty slip and fall on ice, luckily there was no fracture, but I went on a Tuesday, and I would think it wouldn't be so crazy on a Tuesday, HA I was mistaken. I was in line again for 2 hours, the doctor who saw me just did a quick physical exam for 5 minutes, and put in an order for an xray and MRI's , the problem is nobody told me it would take frickin 5 hours to get the diagnostic testing done, if I would of gotten a heads up, I would of just got them done elsewhere, I got so fed up that I left against their advice. All they gave me was prescription for ibuprofen, no ice packs were given to me, no advice was given as to whether or not to consider physical therapy. This hospital is careless, staff is slow and incompetent, there is not enough MD's to go around, and they wont be honest with you about how long your stay at the hospital would be. the only reason they get 2 stars instead of one is because the hospital is very clean. read more

Some of the doctors and nurses were wonderful. Some were disrespectful and nasty. On top of leaving my aunt's pool in a bed pan under her bed for me to find while we looked for her dentures that she was wearing the night before, in the hospital - we spoke to two patient advocates regarding both issues with nothing done. Both patient advocates tried to get me in touch with their supervisor because I emailed and left messages, but the supervisor ignored me. I spoke with several people at the hospital for months only to finally have them make an excuse for the poop being left under my aubt's bed for hours and then told me they didn't see her with dentures - all they had to do was speak to her it watch her able to chew the rock hard chicken to see she was wearing dentures. I definitely would not recommend this hospital. read more

Wow and I thought elmhurst was bad!! I'm here with a loved one and let me tell you... from the moment we entered the understaffed ED we knew it was a mistake. Staff is RUDE, inattentive and unempathetic. Not only did they say that it doesn't matter that she hasn't had food in 5 days and we will have to wait til Monday for a feeding tube. Ok. I get it. No one cares if you're half dead when it's the weekend but it gets better. We waited 6 hours for her lab results only for the nurse to come in and the us the blood hemolyzed and they have to redraw the labs. They also DROPPED a tube of her blood on the ground and didn't even notice until we picked up the UNLABELED vial and showed them. While in the ER another patient has been vomiting blood and screaming in pain for 3 hours and still hasn't seen a doctor or gotten pain or nausea meds. When the woman's mom asked the nurse to please grab the doctor I saw him say across the nurses station "I'm not taking her". Oh really? You can't take 30 seconds and see this woman the is screaming and vomiting blood?! Unreal. She was also shivering and I went to the linen bin and got her a blanket. I don't work here. Where are the nurses. Where is their empathy. How is this hospital even still open and receiving payment from government programs? I can't imagine their press ganey surveys are very good. I know this one will be the lowest rating I've ever given any hospital. I wish I could give negative stars. Now just got word a CT was ordered for us hours ago yet no one has come and we are still waiting for a room so she can be admitted. God I wish she was stable enough to discharge and go to an actual hospital. Not this looney bin Update... After 10.5 hours in the ER she finally got to a room. The nurse on the floor seemed much more attentive and caring. I had spinal surgery there. The recovery nurse insisted I lay flat on my back on that hard stretcher. I told her it was so painful yet she kept fighting me about it. Finally after what seemed forever wait, I was taken to a room to spend the night. Not 1 nurse looked at my inscision or my dressings on my back! Not 1 nurse did an assessment!! I have asthma and felt like I needed a treatment after anesthesia but nobody would listen!! Nobody listened to my lungs, not once!! The floor and room was filthy!! I needed to use the bathroom, but nobody came to help me. So I walked to it by myself!! ICK!!! The bathroom looked like it was in a gas station. I had to clean it before I could even use it!!! The poor elderly women next to me was completely ignored all night long!!! Her IV pump kept alarming the whole night!!! Because it was ignored, dayshift had to restart another IV. I've been an RN over 30 years and would NEVER EVER treat a patient like the way I was treated. I was ignored and left in pain for hours!! I walked out to the nurses station during the night and demanded to leave AMA!! There were tons of people at the desk laughing, on their phones and just making so much noise!! I truly felt abandoned and discriminated against!! I told my neurosurgeon that I will NEVER return to that hell hole again!!! It doesn't even deserve one star!!! read more

Only reason I went there is because my husband Dr. is affiliated but they should be ashamed of themselves! Wheeled my husband in a wheelchair which he doesn't use as a rule, walked in to an empty ER waiting area with 2 people, waited a ridiculous amount of time to be seen at Triage. A woman walks in after we are there for an unacceptable amount of and gets taken in before us. I immediately go up to the desk and ask what that was about and was told they take people according to priority. REALLY??? I wheeled my husband in, and she walked in and it didn't appear she was in any immediate danger. Was it because those working there were women of color, and the woman they took before us was a woman of color? I believe there was some RACIST BS going on there! They allowed a few that walked in after us enter with no masks or masks pulled down under their chins. Their security person was chit chatting on her phone the entire time wearing NO MASK as well. FINALLY, get into Triage and I didn't notice them wiping anything down after the last patient, I had to tell the Nurse two times to update his medication list on their computer after she insisted certain meds weren't listed but I SAW THEM LISTED. I should have walked out then, but we had waited so long. Get to the ER and it was FULL. People on stretches all over the place. Made a huge mistake of waiting another 40 minutes or so and LEFT WITHOUT MY HUSBAND BEING SEEN. This Hospital should close their doors. They have changed names HOW MANY TIMES?? WHAT A NIGHTMARE! I went here on Friday, October 30, 2020 unable to walk on my on because of an orthopedic condition. Even though they gave me something to ease the pain temporarily, I still had problems moving/walking. But they discharged me anyway and refused to give me a prescription for the meds they gave me while I was there. Now I have to go check myself into anothet hospital. I never liked this hospital but thought now that it was part of Mount Sinai it would be better. My mother 94 1/2 years old fell in her home and broke her hip. She was admitted into the hospital on Tuesday, operated on Thursday morning and they threw her out on Friday afternoon. She arrived at the rehab St Joachin and Anne all bloody and totally confused. This hospital is disgusting! Staff are so rude. My father came in here with flu like symptoms, and they quickly gave him an IV. When he came up negative with the flu, the doctor said "what a waste of an IV bag". Excuse me? So what did they wana give him then? Shit? This is one of the worst hospitals Ive ever seen! Half of the staff are uncaring and insensitive. My partner was admitted for 5 days and the care was sub par. The doctors visit the patients once a day in 1 north, and only come early in morning, which leaves the family in the dark about their loved ones diagnoses and treatment. Mom came in after a fall with a fracture to fibula...she was told to be nonweightbearing and sent home with prescription for crutches. Of all my years being in hospitals, ERs have always been equipped with crutches and canes. How do you send someone home nonweightbearing without any assistive device to comply to those precautions? Also, assessment and training for gait aids for each individual is imperative to prevent complications and noncompliance of precautions. I am saddened by such thoughtless treatment read more

With that being said they moved him to critical care and wound up intubaiting him because of his oxygen two days later he starts runing a fever of 105 now mind you this is on week into his stay he did not arrive with a fever For the entire following week they ran countless tests on him and everything kept coming back negative but he had an infection somewhere in his body I would call every morning before I got there to check up on him. On Saturday morning July 11 th 2009 I called at 9 am and spoke to his nurse and asked her how he was doing And she said not good you need to come in he's running a higher fever of 106-107 you would think they would have called me, so I arrive within fifteen minutes I went in to see him and within an hour of my visit my father of 60 years old dies and they put on his death certificate heart failure well duhhhh with a consistent high fever it fried his heart. I honestly believe this hospitals staff killed my father.....the hospital is dirty like you wouldn't believe and the nurses in the critical care unit are heartless and cold, I was going to get an autopsy done to prove negligence even the county coroner was accepting the case after she heard it they don't just accept cases unless they feel there's negilence and with him arriving without a fever that eventually killed him she agreed that there was something wrong but I did not want to put what little family I have left through that.......so if you care for your family DO NOT BRING THEM TO BETH ISREAL KINGSHIGHWAY... read more

Walked into the er took my information , waited 3 hours to be called to the back to actually be seen my a doctor , waited and additional hour for a doctor to approach me , told me to stand up , bend take two steps , oh you just need some pain killers , the pain would wear off ! My dad had knee surgery scheduled on a Wednesday morning. The staff was pretty polite and allowed us in the post-op room to see how he was doing. They explained the surgical process, gave us explicit instructions, and even addressed the progress of his recovery from a previous procedure. I like medical centers more than hospitals, seems a bit more personal and intimate. I didn't feel as if we were another number to help reach some quota though I'm not that naive. He was home the same day, received his meds in advance, and the machinery for his physical therapy at home arrived two days later. read more

I went to the Emergency Room here yesterday for a pretty serious cat bite. My local doctor was closed all the way to Monday and my vet told me I should get it checked out because I probably will need antibiotics and a tetanus shot. The waiting room was quiet and empty. The staff behind the registration window were aloof and distracted. The "fast track" curtain room next to me still had a table full of used appliances which was left there for 10 minutes or so. It was kinda gross. The nurses who tended to me were *really* nice. I had several nurses ask to see my bite out of curiosity. I wasn't seen by the doctor on call himself, but his student who had to report back to him. Which was fine because well.... it's just a cat bite. They cleaned my wound and put bacitracin on it with clean gauze pads. They gave me a tetanus shot and a prescription for antibiotics and told me to watch it closely for infection. They gave me a print out of cleaning directions and an explanation of why cat bites are serious. It has to do with the puncture wounds and not being able to clean the inside of the holes and how it leads to cellulitis which is a infection and inflammation that spreads. Pretty gnarly stuff. This place was decent for what I needed it for. However, if I was here for something more serious I would have been concerned with the lack of cleanliness, the aloof, distracted staff and being seen by a student. read more

worst hospital ever ...i had a painful cyst on my thumb ..sat with my girl friend in ER for 4 hours ,dirty filthy ,no one to clean up...every body coughing...the head nurse told me to go to my own doctor because they have no on staff to remove the cyst.or hand surgeon It could be 4 weeks before they can remove it..i cursed everybody out got up and left ..here's the funny part .next morning the hospital called to see if I followed up with my doctor ,I told her you didnt do anything and dont charge my insurance company.she said I wouldnt be charged....Brooklyn has the worst hospitals .worse than a third world country ...you will leave sicker than you you came in ...:( read more

My husband was admitted to this hospital with severe pain. They kept him waiting several hours in the ER and I had to ask them to please give him painkiller. The hospital made the appropriate tests and finally, 3 days later, operated on my husband. His problem was resolved but I have three major complaints about this hospital and people reading my review should keep these in mind when dealing with this hospital: 1) The stepdown surgical staff showed gaps in their monitoring of my husband's vitals - didn't even realize his tubes had slipped 2) My husband had major surgery, was in pain, had painkiller in the hospital but he was discharged without any Rx for painkiller, or instructions as to what to take. He ended up screaming and crying, 12 hours later, at home, when his last morphine dose from hospital wore off and the drugstores were closed and he couldn't drive. It's a good thing we had some painkillers at home to relieve his pain. 3) We were unable to contact his surgeon to make a followup appointment, despite trying 3 times. My husband survived and the floor staff of his regular room was competent but, if you have other options, I would not recommend this hospital because they have a very lax attitude. read more

I am a doctor who uses a wheelchair. I went in during Hurricane Sandy for 5 days. I called ahead to tell them I would be bringing my service dog and required a wheelchair. I asked if I should bring my own, or if they would provide one. On dealing with disabilities they failed. They threatened to get rid of my dog. Thy refused to let me keep a wheelchair. All of this was illegal and caused my pain to go through the roof. I left in much more pan than when I entered. In all fairness, I was there under the worst, emergency conditions, as Coney Island Hospital had closed. It was extremely over crowded. There were 85 patients in a tiny ER. Staff were working double shifts, and some of them had flooded homes. The charge nurses were good. Other nurses were apathetic, and appeared to just be standing around gossiping. One screamed at me, (and others), threatened me repeatedly, gave me wrong medications and refused to give me the right ones, refused to show my orders, etc. I reported her 2 separate days to the charge nurse and 2 days asked to see a patient advocate. He did get a doctor to review, (and correct), my medical orders. They refused to give me a new nurse, but did reprimand her. After my service dog came running out to my aid, the yelling nurse finally backed off from sticking her finger in my face. Luckily, she was afraid of my dog, who was completely gentle. I was refused access to the toilet, although I repeatedly explained that I was couldn't wait, for medical reasons. It was days before I saw a doctor or received the medication I needed. On the 5th day, I finally received one because a social worker walked to the nearest pharmacy herself! It was 3 days before I was give a room. Over 20 hours before I was given food. (Luckily, they fed my dog food they claimed they didn't have. Thank God my dog shared.) We had no news in the ER, couldn't use a phone, and were yelled at if we tried to ask the latest patients what was going on outside. The isolation was dreadful, reaching 72 hours in, essentially, solitary confinement. A social worker threatened to send me to a shelter, without a wheelchair. I have Post Traumatic Stress disorder and asked her if she realized that women in Hurricane Katrina were raped in the shelters. It turned out she hadn't even read my chart. I was admitted for medical reasons, there was just no bed, sheets, blankets. I was blockaded into a room by trash, dirty linens, a gurney. I got back illnesses I hadn't had for years, and was refused medications for them. 2 men died in the ER. One bled out in minutes. My service dog signaled before the event.The charge nurse was alone and frantically calling for help. All the other nurses were at the far end of the ER. Despite a large amount of blood spatter, for which the staff used face shields and gowns, the blood wasn't cleaned up for hours. I had to go through it in socks to get to the toilet. The family members of the dying men were treated horribly. A son was lied to. A wife was wailing and begged to stay with her husband and take him off the respirator as his DNR record legally required. They not only refused her, they removed her with large security guards and threatened to sedate her against her will! The filth was unbelievable! At one point the hospital lost power for many minutes. In a dark bathroom there were a soaked toilet seat, flooding, and floating objects. I came home covered in bedbug bites, with a severe throat infection and cough I still have 2 weeks later, vomiting for 20 straight hours, and cellulitis from a splinter I got there! I feared I fractured my hand, but wouldn't return for an x-ray under any conditions. I am not yet recovered physically. I continue to have PTS, (Post Traumatic Stress). I am still jumping at noises, even the phone, my doorbell, or my name. Other seniors and disabled people report the same symptoms. Once I got a room, things improved dramatically. I had an excellent PA, (Physician's Assistant). She arranged for me to see an excellent pain specialist, for whom I stayed an extra day. She and a social worker helped me get good follow-up care with VNS, (Visiting Nurses). I'm finally getting the care I moved to NYC 11 months ago to get! I will be getting physical therapy, (PT), Occupational Therapy, (OT), and Speech Therapy. I will finally get help from a Social Worker to get Medicaid and essential Personal Care Assistants, (PCAs). So, it ended well. By the way, in a group I facilitated at a senior center today, most of the seniors have both PTS, (or Acute Stress Reaction), and Major Depression, with deep hopelessness and despair. All described the worst experience as the isolation. All but one expected future storms and blackouts. The one exception urged political organizing to prevent a repeat.Those who had survived WWII in Europe and/or the Holocaust were reliving it. One blind woman said that she would beg her spouse to leave and save their dog, because she would slow her down. read more

I went to the hospital Monday night for a allergic reaction to something what I don't know anyway my lip was real big so I thought I wouldn't be anything major. The ER is HORRIBLE if you want to DIE go there! First of all when I got in the ER there were people everywhere. you couldn't even find a space to stand then this STUPID PA (PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT) starts prepping me to get a ivy in my arm. He then gives me pediazole, benadryl and pepcid all through the ivy. I immediately felt a rush to my heart and chest area I could keep my eyes open. I told them something is wrong and they kept telling me "oh the benadryl will do that to you don't worry. No matter how much they told me that I still was fighting that want to sleep. Every time I felt my eyes closing I fought to keep them open my husband was very concerned and try everything he could to help me. All you saw were PA's no real DR. These people are playing doctor and messing with your life. In between me blacking out and fighting I prayed like crazy with three children at home I was so worried ans scared after a while the 'PA' even looked scared ( the one that gave me all that garbage) All of a sudden they put me on heart monitor machines and decided to admit me... really??? I was put in a room with a bathroom that was shared with the room on the other side of the door. IT WAS HORRIBLE! no shower and a sink in the room itself not even in the bathroom GROOOOOSSsss! I later learn that the weren't suppose to give me 50units of benadryl they were only suppose to give me 25 this was told to me by a doctor that next day I could have been killed plus this Dr. said it also goes by a persons weight and what they gave me was too much for my body. The whole thing was a NIGHTMARE! THE HOSPITAL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN FOREVER! IT'S A DEATH TRAP! read more

Recently I was feeling very ill and with the advice of my Dr. I went to the emergency department.Despite the extreme crowding I received the most excellent nursing care from nurses who despite extreme demands they were able to render the highest level of care with kindness and professionalism.
