Nurses propping up feet in chairs in the waiting room
Brad M.

If I could give mount Sinai Brooklyn 0 stars, I absolutely would! My partner recently had surgery here, and the disorganization and lack of professionalism was astounding. In addition, they failed to give me any updates and ignored my existence the entire time I waited there. Even when I was in the recovery room with my partner, the staff would not speak to me. In addition, weeks before the surgery, my partner was given a booklet with the steps the hospital would take as part of his recovery before being discharged. The staff completed none of the physical therapy or steps outlined in the booklet. The waiting room was filthy, and the nurses would come in and take breaks, propping up their feet on the chairs. I would never have anything done there again and recommend if you have any other option, you go elsewhere

She ignored me at the front desk, then tried to hide

I edited my review and posted it again. If Yelp removes it again, l will seek legal counsel. Yelp, you just gave me all the evidence that I need. Yelp, you removed my original review after falsely accusing me of unnecessary graphic or offensive descriptions. Yelp, you also falsely accused me of mentioning physical and or sexual violence. Leave my review up, or deal with the risk of a lawsuit, meditation, or settlement. Date of hospital visit: 7/27/24 Location: Mount Sinai Brooklyn Emergency Department 3201 Kings Highway Brooklyn 11234-2625 Time approximately 6:55am Doctor who saw me: Morgan Sauer, MD Reason for review: Condescending, nonchalant medical staff member who was supposed to get me help IMMEDIATELY, but instead took her sweet time. See the attached photos of the person I'm describing. This is my second post because Yelp removed first one. I don't know why Yelp is trying to censor my review. My account is not even well known, how did you even find me? I didn't use any profanity or threats. This is exactly what's wrong with this society. NOBODY CAN BE HONEST ANYMORE. I currently have COVID and I went to Mount Sinai and my first words to the black female worker/receptionist behind the glass window was that I have a 91 degree body temperature. She looked at me and didn't say one word. And looked disinterested. The only thing she said in response was "I.D?" I gave her both my ID and my insurance card. Instead of her getting help and requesting that someone come out and check my vital signs, she had me in wait for almost 5 minutes. And the only reason it wasn't longer was because I spoke up for myself. She never once said "Please wait." Or even indicated that she was trying to get me help. The main lobby was empty. There was no patient in the lobby but me. And she still was taking her sweet time typing in my information very slowly. She even asked me "Where do you live?" These are the type of decisions that can result in patients dying. She was also talking to me in a very low tone of voice even though she was behind a glass. I could barely hear her. She even went in to say "You can sit down." This was about 5 minutes after I already told her my body temp was 91 degrees Fahrenheit. Then I asked her if there was a doctor available and she replied sarcastically "This is a hospital, of course there are doctors." So she was quicker to be sarcastic with a patient who asked a reasonable question as opposed to getting the Registered Nurse. She only got the nurse after I raised my voice at her. The Registered Nurse also lied to me and told me that 91 degrees is normal body temperature. No human being can live with a 91 body temperature. That is hypothermia, and can damage your organs. She knows that, but she told me BS anyway. It's like they just tell you ANYTHING, and they say it with a straight face, and expect you to believe it. And I also didn't like when Morgan Sauer, MD told me that I was "young". He was practically downplaying my COVID infection. A very demeaning and common thing that many doctors say far too often. As if people have never heard of St. Jude, a cancer facility for children. And not to mention Juvenile Diabetes. Doctors are always downplaying people's symptoms. But the worst of them all was the woman behind the glass window when I came in. Then as soon as I mentioned that I was going to do a review about her unprofessionalism and pulled out my cellphone, she started dodging me like a ninja. These are simple things to do as a medical professional. If someone tells you that their body temp is 91, you aren't supposed to take your sweet time. And she knows that but she just didn't care.

Does anyone still use Yelp?? No matter. Here I go anyway…read more While navigating healthcare in the United States of America generally is, and probably always will be, an absolute nightmare, all of the personnel and staff I've dealt with (with only a few exceptions) at NYP Brooklyn Methodist have been outstanding. I became a patient in the Advanced Maternal Fetal Medicine department after my pregnancy became complicated, and every doctor I met with exerted an impressive level of care, patience, and compassion as we navigated a very frightening and emotional experience. Our baby was ultimately delivered early but totally healthy- and all staff in the labor & delivery unit and mother / baby unit were also wonderful. We now have follow-up appointments regularly with pediatric speech and OT. Not only are the therapists extremely kind and wonderful to work with, they are helpful with scheduling appointments, insurance navigation, and referrals. The quality of human beings working at NYP is exceptional, and I only hope they are granted the compensation, the support, and a work environment that allows them to continue doing excellent work for their patients and community.

I also had concerns about how staff communicated with and referred to patients. A lead nurse referred to patients of a different race, ethnicity, or background as "these people," which I found inappropriate and concerning. It made me question whether patients are fully protected from bias, discrimination, or unequal treatment at this location. Managing Type 1 diabetes requires careful monitoring and urgency. Based on my experience, I did not feel confident that my condition was monitored or addressed at the level it deserved. I would strongly recommend that Type 1 diabetics ask detailed questions about diabetes management, patient advocacy, and escalation procedures before receiving care here.

He was repeatedly neglected by staff by not giving him the pain medication in a timely manner, left in a hot, poorly ventilated room with no working air conditioning on that 3rd floor, and denied basic requests like ice water to relieve himself from the heat for hours. Staff also left unused medical equipment (syringes and needles) on his eating table, creating a serious health hazard. At one point, he was locked in a room with an irate dementia patient after the nurse walked out, held the door closed and refused to open the door -- even as my father yelled and banged on the wall for help. Visitors, including his wheelchair bound family member, had to beg staff to take action. Overall, his care was marked by neglect, unsafe conditions, and a lack of respect or urgency from hospital staff. No patient -- especially a vulnerable one -- should be treated this way.

About two years ago I had an emergency and revisited. I was terrified of what to expect. Let me tell you, THINGS HAVE CHANGED! FOR THE BETTER! MUCH BETTER! Everything including wait time, was like chalk and cheese! So different. I've been attending this hospital somewhat regularly as this is also now my primary care clinic. Dr. S. Nainan my PCP is a wonderful Doctor. Even if it's via a zoom call, my concerns are immediately addressed. I feel heard. I feel respected. I am properly cared for. From reception to attendants, security, technicians, office staff, and medical team, they ALL care for me so well! Special mention MUST BE MADE of E. Mantel. That lady goes above and beyond ALWAYS! Words cannot express my appreciation for the entire team at Orthopedics. On another note I used to run from needles. I used to be deathly afraid of them. Now, now having my blood taken by the lab at KCH and getting vaccinated is all a breeze. A BREEZE I TELL YOU! I look forward to the needles because the Nurses are professional and I don't feel a thing! One time when I was sick and frustrated (you know how it goes when you're under the weather and grumpy), the Nurse treated me so lovingly I felt as if I was in my mummy's arms. I started to cry. Tears of release and gratitude for the care I received. I'll continue to share about my experiences here because they need to be recognized for their outstanding service to our community. An important thing to consider is this is also (for want of a better phrase) a "One Stop Shop". Whether it's an emergency, or blood work, medication, finance, MRI, x-rays, scan-all types, gynecology, Dexa scan, dental anything to do with your health and to avoid you having to trek all over the city just to complete a visit is available here. Thank you NYC Health + Hospital -Kings County! THANK YOU SO MUCH! The End.

Definitely had to explain the problem a million times but they eventually got the picture. So honestly 3/5 for the actual care. The 5/5 is for 2 things ... The absolutely STELLAR Caribbean (island) women holding this entire emergency room together! They are the hardest working people in the whole wing. The men i saw, wandering around hands in pockets, and the European (couldn't place the accent) nurses (x3) , absolutely clueless! But the Island Nurses y'all ladies deserve a raise for carrying the weight. I spend 12 hours in the emergency room so i can say this is an accurate assessment without a doubt. The other reason 5/5, the entertainment! Truly top tier!!!!!

I've taken the COVID-19 PCR test at different test sites around the city a few times now and am all…read moretoo familiar with the anxious feeling that comes between the time you take the test and when you get your results. I've been lucky to have been clued into sites that have a turnaround time of just 2 days so I haven't waited too long but I know of many folks who have waited as long as 14 days for theirs. I took a rapid PCR test here at this Crown Heights site and got my results back in a mere 2 hours. Everything about this process, from booking my appointment to entering the site, to getting my results back via online portal were incredibly straightforward and efficient, and I'd recommend anyone visit nyc.gov's rapid testing site page to find your nearest location if you need to get tested. 1218 Prospect Place is also the address for the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene but has now set up a special covid testing site. Once you're in the building you're asked to write your name and time of visit on a sheet of paper, and then you're walked over to a small room where they'll ask for your information, and some general questions like if you have any symptoms and if you've traveled internationally in the last week. I didn't love being in a small unventilated room with other people but they moved people in and out of that room relatively quickly. I was then walked into the room where I got tested, and I was swabbed and out of that room in just a couple of minutes. The process of getting tested at Bellevue Hospital was somewhat less nerve wracking since the hospital lobby where you wait in line is expansive with soaring high ceilings (we're talking 50-70 feet high) and the test itself takes place in an outdoor tent. Still the lines at Bellevue can be long and while getting tested there is usually about a 1 hour process, getting tested at this Crown Heights site was actually in total only a 15 minute process. It's also amazing that they can return results in hours because they're a small center and they have their own lab. I was emailed about my (negative!) results and I checked them via an online portal. Many thanks to the staff at this testing site for making this process as quick and painless as possible.
