Vastly different experiences depending on the floor, which I guess have different managers. April stay: my elderly husband was on the 4th floor, got everything he needed medically and for patient care. Cognitive visits, exercise because he is bedbound, rotation every two hours to prevent bedsores. June stay: 2nd floor, no cognitive visits, no exercise (they said he wasn't a candidate because he's BEDBOUND - really? That is the exact reason I do exercise with him EVERY DAY); no rotation at all even though I repeatedly asked about it. They sent him home with a BLEEDING PRESSURE SORE on his backside. Luckily I was able to heal it at home. Also, they never figured out where the fever and high inflammation markers were coming from. They were focused on blood tests and a post-surgery hip. However, after we got home I very quickly realized that he has ulcerative colitis (I saw mucus and blood). Mystery solved. I put him on a special diet, I hope that does it without needing anti-inflammatories. Beware which floor you get sent to. read more

It's outrageous to see this hospital with so many negative reviews. Most seem to relate to Emergency Department experiences, where overburdened staff trying to keep up with a crippling volume of urgent, and sometimes critical situations, aren't able to deliver the levels of accommodation most of us would want. The problem is a system that won't spend as much as quality care requires. My experience was up on the floors as a pre-surgical and eventually surgical, inpatient. And the quality of care I received on the 4th floor was ... AMAZING!!!!!! Medical competence was present, but so much more. The people -- the nurses, the nursing aides, the cafeteria staff, the folks who clean, the people at the nursing station, EVERYONE, were amazing. The doctors were present and diligent. It was the health care ideal. I wish only the best and all the best for each person I came into contact with! read more

Our review of the Emergency Department: The first time we went my girlfriend was showing concerning signs of a possible stroke. The ER wasn't busy, but even given that, they had her triaged and upgraded in just a few minutes and gave her a full exam that definitively ruled out anything serious. She felt seen and the doctor (Dr. Puja Patel) took plenty of time to answer her questions and put her at ease. We had the same wonderful doctor take care of me a couple days later when I came to the ER for excruciating abdominal pain. I had morphine and a CT scan within an hour, imaging and a diagnosis within 2.5 hours. Dr. Patel remembered my gf and even mentioned being worried about her. In fact, everyone, from the security guards to the nurses to the billing department, they all worked efficiently and were friendly, kind, patient, and thorough. Despite being in, I think, the most excruciating pain in my life, I had a pretty enjoyable time at the ED, all the things considered. No complaints in our case, they did a really good job. read more

I left a review on Yelp regarding how Mount Sinai's treatment of me and my boyfriend was traumatizing, which included reporting a HIPPA violation, and they asked me to follow a link to fill out a website form and promised to get in touch with me about it. Finished my endo/colonoscopy with Dr. Hong (GI) and Dr. Fong (anesthesia) today. Throughout the consult process, Dr. Hong has been incredibly kind, respectful and knowledgeable, explaining each test and result completely while at the same time taking my concerns seriously and maintaining my agency. The team on the 5th floor were all incredibly kind, gently clarifying a number of instructions for my sleep and food deprivation addled self, engaging in lighthearted conversation, offering blankets before being asked, asking (necessarily) invasive questions politely and respectfully, and expertly placing/removing my IV catheter without causing me symptoms of vasovagal syncope (for the layman, throwing up and passing out). Dr. Fong was both professional and warm, setting me at ease before the procedure and explaining when and how I would be affected by anesthesia. The procedure was covered fully by my insurance (United), and I was able to leave within two hours of my procedure, after waiting a few minutes for my catheter to be removed after waking up completely. The results of visual findings were available in my MyChart account before I even arrived home, and shortly thereafter Dr. Hong's office called to schedule a prompt follow-up appointment to discuss any results of pending biopsies and my treatment options. As someone who's been to a number of hospitals, I was truly pleasantly surprised and couldn't be happier with my experience! My procedure was quick, but not rushed -- I felt cared for and respected throughout by the entire team on the 5th floor. read more

AVOID MOUNT SINAI EXPRESS CARE CENTER- I went here for a follow up as I had been prescribed antibiotics and was still experiencing symptoms after finishing them. The nurse was nice but inexperienced, the doctor was incredibly dismissive. I presented to the doctor the bottle the antibiotics were in and she did not recognize the medicine I had been prescribed (despite it being a common antibiotic) then proceeded to ask me what medicine I wanted to take. I told her I wasn't sure of all my options, or if there was a milder antibiotic I could take while I wait for my full culture panel to come back. She was confused by that question. I agreed with her that we would wait until the rapid test came back in a few minutes (although my first rapid a week earlier had come up negative despite me testing positive on the full panel.) When the rapid came back negative, she informed me it was negative and told me to "wait a few days" for the full panel to come back, then left the room. This was Sunday, I called back today after hearing nothing just for a follow up, and was told to call a different number and wait 24 hours for a response. Just looking to collect on your insurance after they "check" you, not concerned if you're actually sick or not. read more

Really attentive staff, friendly, hospital looks clean, operating room looks updated recently. Post-surgery recovery room meets my standards. In general, Mount Sinai hospital exceeds my expectations. My mom was a patient from this hospital, she was hospitalized and lost $300 cash, the hospital said there is nothing they can do about it. A nurse named Maria Neri took my mom's bag before her procedure and trusted her because she is also a Filipino, the next day they we can't find Maria Neri. We reached out to the patient coordinator but no helped was given to us until now. Last June 29th mom was supposed to have her outpatient surgery with Doctor Phair. The doctors cleared her to have this vascular surgery. I know that mom has renal disease, of course there are risks, but they did not stop my moms medications such as her aspirin and heparin, they did the surgery and did not succeed, they opened her again the same day, after loosing a lot blood, she suffered from bilateral brain injury, was in coma for a week and died last July 5th... ANOTHER THING HAPPENED WHEN MY MOM WAS IN COMA... My mom and my sister checked in her belongings and was given a vault number. We noticed that her facebook messenger goes online. I checked with tmobile and found out that moms phone are using internet while she's in coma. So we decided to asked for her things. It took time before my sister got my mom's bag because when she went to the security the vault was empty. But thank God they were able to locate her phone, I don't know how. I checked the phone and found out that someone is searching for a private hotel in Jamaica.... And they forgot to clear the history. It's a shame that someone will dig into a patients bag and use her phone while she is in coma. My mom was the one who checked in her bag and signed for it. Maybe the person who used her phone thought that nobody will claim her bag. God bless your doctors and your hospital. We lost the last parent that we have, no sorry can bring her back to us... This is by far the worst hospital in Queens. My mother was hospitalized here for a week. After a week she was supposed to be discharged (prematurely). I put in for an appeal for her to stay a few more says because her breathing wasn't good. I lost the appeal and I was told that my mother had to leave by 12:00pm. I asked if I can come by 3:00pm because of work purposes and they gave me such a hard time. The social worker (Casandra) and the supervisor (Karoline) were very nasty and rude to me. They were literally pushing my mother out. We will never come here again. Do yourself a favor and don't come to this hospital unless you have no other choice. It's terrible. Recently, I was forced to seek services at this hospital knowing that Mount Sinai is in fact a corporation and not a true medical facility. In other words, they offer minimal medical care, while monetary gain is their main focus. Long story short, in another time and place, Mount Sinai would be federally investigated and held accountable. In short, I waited for hours during a night they were not so busy. Upon my visit informed them I am a diabetic, still they gave me medications within their facility that could have killed or deeply affected my good health. They could not find their ear examiner device, but brought me to another part of the emergency care unit to examine my ears only to tell me I was clear, even though I was greatly clogged and hearing little. The attitude of some of their staff was abominable. After all, I was sent home with three BS prescriptions that did nothing, but quell a bad headache which I had none. Later that morning, I went to a clinic due to my dissatisfaction. Upon that visit, I was informed that I had an ear infection and a bad cold. I was prescribed four strong medications to combat the bacterial infection and clogged sinuses. I was informed that I needed to seek the assistance of an ear specialist due to the severity of my ill condition. Luckily, everything turned out alright because of the good medications prescribed at the clinic. Seriously, I shutter to think of what might have been the reality had I not questioned the care given earlier at Mount Sinai. Still, I am disappointed and angered by the lack of good medical care I should have received as a patient at Mount Sinai. Lastly, a complaint was filed in which they glossed over facts in place of making "broken records" comments about how great they are in offering the finest of care. In addition, the hospital blatantly fibbed about my diagnosis. Why would they say anything other than how great they are, even though it is far from truth. In voicing my written concerns, I received what are questionable responses with the usual being how great they are, but also, eluding to my being quiet and just paying the bill or I may be denied future services. I know these threats they carefully worded to be just that threats and highly illegal too. Mount Sinai is a corrupt facility with a primary interest in monetary gain. Upon making my complaints with Mount Sinai, the insurance and elected officials, I came to realize that they would not so confidently behave in a grotesque manner if it were not for a greater corruption of the system, as I mentioned earlier. All this behavior is on their heads and some day they will be held to a greater accountability not within the State of New York. Seriously, I can only be thankful that it was not far worse and I am only in the pickle for a couple thousand dollars from Mount Sinai. By the way, the clinic staff that examined me only charged me a few hundred dollars for far better care, overall. The point of this review is to alert others as to what they may encounter upon a visit at Mount Sinai. Eventually, I will help see to it that better laws are enacted to protect the patient from being exploited in every which way. Do not stop speaking, even if you are carefully threated against doing so. It is the only way to hold crooks accountable. Even if your voice is stifled and you feel a victorious loss is inevitable, just knowing the reality and speaking against such is in fact a victory in itself. Also, I came to realized that a level of discriminatory and prejudicial behavior may be partly responsible for their adverse responses and actions to the issues. read more

Although the doctors seemed semi competent, don't go there if you have any other choice. I had an accident by falling into a hole in the asphalt and broke my ankle in 3 places. My foot was at an odd angle and no one could fix it. They splinted it in the wrong position. Nurses barely gave me anything to drink and nothing to eat from 7:30 pm to 3 am when I was transferred to Morningside. I had endless X-rays that they redid in the next hospital anyway. I was left with no help waiting to be picked up from X-Ray for a long time. And to top it off, an ER doc charged $190,000 for doing nothing. It's a pit. Don't go. read more

The newly installed central calling system for Mt. Sinai is horrible. You cannot speak to a doctor's office directly, but have to go through what amounts to an answering service. The only way around this is to send a message to a doctor through the patient portal, adding even more responsibility to the doctor. This is a terrible way to treat patients. read more

This is my second review for Mt Sinai. Queens. My first was for my husband's hospital stay. I went to ER on 4/3/23 for chest pains. I was immediately taken in and they did an ekg and xray. Hospital staff were efficient and friendly as I expected. I only stayed for 24 hours but during my stay I was really impressed at the way there were always someone cleaning and sanitizing the restrooms. The only thing I think needs improving is the fact that while in "Observation" you get no breakfast, lunch or dinner. I would like to thank staff member Marvo for getting me a cup of tea at 11.30 pm. So nice of her. I would definitely recommend this Hospital . Doctors, nurser and general staff are awsome!!! read more

How many people possibly infected others due to improper testing. Finally got another person to do the test correctly. My husband and I are both COVID-positive. I am pregnant and my husband fainted and hit his head (two separate issues!). No place else would see me for an emergency ultrasound to make sure the baby was okay (because they didn't have ultrasound equipment, or because I was COVID-positive, or because I'm 20 weeks), and, in fact, a couple places were quite rude about it. City MD also said my husband's head injury could be life-threatening. Nobody wants to be in the ER, and of course there were stretches of waiting, but everyone here was so nice. We got a room with a bed, chair, and bathroom right away (because of COVID?). I was seen relatively quickly for an ultrasound by a doctor and resident, who reassured me that my baby is okay. My husband's case took a little longer, but he got a chest X-ray, CT scan, and blood drawn. His doctor said the CT scan came back negative and that it was probably dehydration and fever. We arrived at about 7pm and were discharged around 3am. I am so glad we were better safe than sorry and went. These doctors and nurses are the real heroes. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. This is the WORST hospital I've EVER been to & the WORST medical care anyone in my family has EVER received. I submitted a complaint to this hospital, & I never received a response. For our entire visit, we waited maybe a total of 5 hours or more. I did not feel we were treated with respect, kindness, compassion, or professionalism, specifically by Dr. Christin Barry and her nurse (Joyce). There was no communication between nurse, doctor, & patient. What happened: I checked in my 13-month-old son into the ER for possible dehydration. He had vomited 4 times in 24 hours & was lethargic during the very hot day. My mother accompanied me. We work in food safety, & we observed my son's nurse not practicing sanitary procedures. The doctor never introduced herself but proceeded to touch my son & ask questions. I thought she was one of the nurses until the actual nurse told me that she was the doctor. After an almost 2-hour wait, I walked around & found Dr. Barry at the nurse's desk. I expressed my concerns. She berated me & said, "I told the nurse - to give medicine & make him DRINK." It was not clear to me why I waited 2 hours for that! I was appalled at Dr. Barry's lack of compassion & professionalism. I was the one who told the nurse what the doctor said. Then the impatient, disgruntled, & unprofessional nurse gave my son the medicine for his vomiting & water. I'm not sure how long we waited after that because we fell asleep until we asked another nurse (Ms. Patel, much kinder), who told us we could go. We complained, & she had us talk to the charge nurse (Bernadette Springer). She was equally appalled & said that this case should be investigated. She encouraged us to make a formal complaint as well. Nurses Patel & Springer were the only nice things that happened to us. The medical care was horrific & basically non-existent. This is the worse hospital the NYc area. STAY AWAY IF YOU CAN. I've been waiting for two days to see a doctor. Promises that just don't become true. Doctors particularly Dr, Wong in the emergency room) throw their weight around, don't explain anything to his patients (at least me), i was left for a day in a bed near the entrance, i had a car scan and nobody told me the results, same with blood work. Prisoners from Rikers Island are lef tshackled to their beds with police around for "flavor", people left in the halls shouting to the top of their lungs from withdrawals, they don't change the sheets. To make it short this has been the worse experience I've had in a medical facility. Also, the pharmacy can't get their dosages right and "edit" my medicines so I don't receive what I need. TERRIBLE SERVICE, TERRIBLY RUDE NURSES. Waited for 4 hours and had to walk out because patients were being prioritized. It's a first come first serve situation. 7 people were taken before me, and I'm having trouble breathing. Another "patient" was waiting for the same amount of time and we didn't even get to TRIAGE. He also had trouble breathing, but they took someone w a limp in their foot, and a man who got in a fight, along with countless others. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, PATIENCE OR ENERGY AT THIS PIECE OF TRASH "hospital" SHAME ON THE STAFF IN THE ER, SHAME ON MT SINAI. No wonder they have 2 stars. Came for an ER visit and was admitted for observation and treatment ER admission was smooth, quick and efficient. Great patient care Everyone very helpful and happy to be working here Nursing staff super attentive and genuinely interested in seeing you comfortable and feeling at your best. Environmental staff very efficient most areas were cleaned on a regular time basis. The only complaints would be the patient rooms could be bigger/more spacious and have 2 patient rooms instead of 3 patients in a room. read more

Before my rant about safety protocols I just want to say that the doctors, PAs, and nurses were pleasant and helpful as they usually are when I go here and for that I'm thankful given the stress they must be going through over the past 12 months. They have so much of my respect, BUT: Where do I start? My primary care sent me to get checked out because I was having back pain and concerning symptoms. Enough to warrant an ER trip. I've been apprehensive to go to the ER due to the COVID situation and apparently my instincts were correct. 1.) There are people just loitering in the entrance to the ER before you even hit the security gate. I was waiting behind them thinking they were there to be seen, but they waved me past them saying they weren't there to get in. 2.) There are no temperature checks upon entry. In fact, I didn't even get my temp checked until triage. I assume the same for everyone else. 3.) There are two columns of chairs spaced apart. The one on the right is for people waiting to get COVID tested and the one on the left (me) were people waiting to get into the ER. So here I am going in without a communicable disease sitting next to people with potential to have the disease. 4.) I get into the ER and I'm put in what amounts to a corner with 4 other people that are much less than 6 feet apart. I understand that hospitals are strained, but with precautions like this it's like they're hoping for repeat customers. I walked in with back pain and walked out with a higher risk of COVID than I've had since the pandemic began. The one place I couldn't take precautions was at the place that should have been taking the precautions for me. Full of regret right now. read more

As I was reading the reviews of this hospital, I was like WHOA! I almost didn't want to write a review to be honest. Everyone is entitled to their own personal opinion so here goes my simple review. This was my first visit to this hospital on a personal level as I've delivered here in the past in my profession. Upon entering through the automatic doors, there is front desk with hospital and security personnel whom are seated. I'm given swift directions how to get to whom I'm visiting. Upon arriving on the floor, there are no visible signs to guide you to where you need to go, just a few puzzled faces from the staff. I finally locate the room that I needed. It was clean and spacious, very accommodating for large groups of people. The nursing staff are AMAZING and very ATTENTIVE. We had a lot of questions to ask and they had no problem answering our questions which is definitely a plus in my book. I'm pleased with the service that they are providing to my friend. read more

I came in to the ER because I fell really hard on both my feet. The nurses did not do anything, a doctor did not see me. They X Rayed my feet and sent me home with Ibufropen. Almost a week later they call to tell me a have a severe heel frature on my left foot. THANKS FOR LETTING ME WALK OUT OF THE ER WITH A FRACTURED FOOT. Worst hospital ever. Doctor didnt even see me. Horrible emergency department. Nurse told me directly in front of two patients that they are understaff with doctors. There were only two doctors currently in the unit seeing patients. The doctor with the silver chain was sitting in front of the computer screen for hours. The other doctor smiled with embarrassment when I told the nurse "you're telling me there are only two doctors covering this unit?" I waited for our three hours. For nothing. I left. No way in hell this hospital is going to Bill my insurance. The patient next to me was waiting for 3 hours as well with a big opened cut with a broken finger in pain. He asked the nurse to please assist him but her statement "we have to wait for doctors orders" Why did you become a nurse then? What's the purpose? For job security and benefits? Obviously.... She's a nurse...clean his womb in the meantime offer patient care. Don't just stare at him with your moving computer for show. It's funny because I'm pursuing Global Health Care Policy and to witness the workflow of this department was an embarrassment. Too many standby nurses waiting for a doctor to tell them what to do. Horrible horrible department. There needs to be a change of management. Positive upbeat workflow. These health professionals do the same thing every day we get it but these patients most of the time come one time...make it a safe healthy comfortable environment.
