I was iffy about going here because of all the horrible reviews. But I was kind of surprised by how bad it wasn't. I came at 7am due to severe abdominal pain. Got through intake within five minutes. Got a bed right away. My nurse, Khamil was attentive and efficient. The PA Kwame was great too. It wasn't busy right away but by the time I left it was. But still organized. I left at around 1pm so a six hour ordeal in a NYC hospital is actually pretty good. The main thing I noticed was an astounding shortage of doctors on site. It took hours for someone to read my cat scan. I never saw my doctor, only the PA. And I saw no doctors walking around. How can this be? There's a thousand nurses standing around yet no doctors giving direction. read more

My first appointment at Mount Sinai went very smoothly and easily. Dr. Kundu was very nice and helpful. Made me feel very comfortable and I was happy that she was the Dr I went with. Her receptionist and the scheduling in general her is making me want to pull my hair out. The dr told me I could schedule my follow up procedure on the way out and when I tried the receptionist assured she would call me to schedule the appointment...something I was suspicious wouldn't happen and I wasn't surprised when it didn't. Also there is no direct line to a specific dr so scheduling happened with a random person who wasn't aware of the actual logistics so ONE day before my appointment the office calls me and leaves a voicemail that my appointment is too late and I need to change it. And of course the callback number is the MAIN line so I still can't even talk to the actual office I'm visiting to schedule my appointment. So now I have to wait another 10 days for my appointment. I wish they would have just helped me from the beginning it's such a pain now especially when trying to work around my working hours. read more

The GREATEST INEFFICIENCY Of The Year WARNING: for COVID test, if you are not ready to stand in line in cold weather for at least FOUR HOURS, do not go. I got there at 11am (the time they open) and got tested at 4pm, total FIVE HOURS. Turned out there were only two staffs working in the testing tent, while about 200 ppl waiting outside. They brought in 10 ppl each round, and one staff types personal info into computer ONE BY ONE while let others waiting in the tent PLUS 200 ppl waiting outside. What irritated me the most was that with so many ppl waiting and so much time being consumed and wasted, the two staffs took it for granted. Theoretically, they were "working" - one typing one collecting samples, but at the meantime they were also chattering and joking with each other and playing music in the tent, as if no one waiting, no one being frozen outside. Heartless ones like that shouldn't work at hospital. Incompassionate, unprofessional and indifferent well describe what I observed during the whole process. Another piece is that during the chatter one staff brought up that they had so far tested 100 ppl, which means from 11am - 4pm, total five hours they tested 100 ppl - 20 PPL PER HOUR is their efficiency for nasal swab test. The hospital is well equipped. The staff is well trained. The location and ability to get a patient in the ER in a timely fashion is outstanding. That said, they are understaffed and overworked. Every staff member constantly complained about it to us. Every conversation overheard in the halls waiting for an X-ray or something similar was also the same subject of never resting and always having to perform triple duty. Those conversations were amongst staff workers. All of this is important because in the interim they neglected to address my 104 degree fever for 6 hours with a simple antibiotic treatment. The very old and lovely doctor should have been retiring from a small family practice not leading a NYC Trauma team as his suggestion was to send me home with an aspirin ignoring the fact my blood was severely septic from an infection. I had to get "stern"(legal) before they administered treatment and then ignored me for 24 hours without continuous treatment until I had to walk out and go strait to my own Dr. oh yes, they insisted that it was "illegal" for me to have my property on the gurney and all electronics and clothes had to be place in plastic bags where in the places my I.V. Bag sideways in said bags holding my iPad headphones and laptop where the iv fluid drowned them to complete uselessness. ADD INSULT TO INJURY... I was constantly being bombarded by everyone's blood because I was right next to the overstuffed hazmat container that all nurses kept flicking blood and liquids onto me for 30 hours. Both times I have brought family members to the emergency room (elder and child) I have really liked the doctors and nurses and felt well cared for/listened to. Luckily each time was for non life threatening illness/accident. The waiting room and emergency room were clean and comfortable. And both times we were admitted immediately and released in about 2 hours. The doctors and nurses deserve medals for the kinds of stuff they deal with every day. Both times i saw staff deal with very challenging patients. i don't know how staff endure every day. read more

I don't ever want to come back here not to visit anyone (hope no one goes to the hospital) and I especially don't want to come back as a patient. After a minor issue landed me in the emergency room here not long ago, I had waited over 1.5 hours to see a doctor who spoke to me for less than 10 minutes and released me shortly thereafter. The hospital reception staff was totally incompetent, misspelling my name and mishandling my address while I spoke slowly to them. The waiting room was awfully small for ER bound patients and the folks waiting in there with me were a bunch of weirdos. Seeing all of the trauma that goes in and out of the emergency rooms are sad and its amazing how many people end up on a wheeled gurney just parked in the hallway with no one attending them. All I can think about is Michael Moore's "Sicko" while I stared in amazement that the medical staff was too "busy" to help everyone at the moment. I would normally give them one star for the obscene waiting times (receptionist told me a 90 minute wait is usually normal) and paperwork mishaps. However, I have to add one star for the insanely hot doctor they had given me. She was a knockout who wasted little time on me to attend to the real sick individuals. I now wish I had let the idiots behind the desks mess up on my information, especially since I got the bill ($$$$). read more

This place is awful. A few years ago I took an ex here, they said he had a stye in his eye gave him ointment and the next day both his eyes were swollen shut. Turned out he had an allergic reaction all along NOT a stye so I said I would never go back here. Then I broke my toe. It hurt so badly the thought of taking a cab into Manhattan was just too far. I thought, well how badly can they screw up a broken bone? First off, it hurt like hell to walk, and they DIDN'T HAVE A WHEELCHAIR. It took them over 20 minutes to find me a wheelchair. Then the PA was yelling at the Xray tech in front of me, all with her paint stained wrinkled cargo pants. Later after the Xray was taken she was OOHING AND AHHING and OOOH GIRLIN' at my Xray. So unprofessional, telling me thats the ugliest break she's seen in a while, even pulling other nurses and doctors in just to gawk at it. All while waiting for some foot doctor to come in. Once this foot doctor came in, she was of little help constantly phoning someone more experienced at home. She decided to reset it and told me once its numbed it won't hurt. Well, 4 very painful shots through the foot later I STILL felt the reset. It hurt so badly I thought I was going to pass out. Then they took another Xray and it turns out she was unsuccessful at putting the toe back in place and told me that my toe will likely need to have pins placed in it. Then she did this horrible wrap job with a weird plaster thing that kept my leg soaked well over 3 hours after I left the hospital its still showed no signs of drying so I just removed it. The following day (since it was late at night) my neighbor goes to fill the prescirption for me for my pain medication. Turns out just the PA signed it and you needed a physcian's signature because it was a controlled substance. The people at the pharmacy said this hospital does this often and they can't legally fill the prescriptions. A day later I got in at my orthopedist office to see the podiatrist. He told me that first off, you never put pins in pinky toes, that whoever told me that clearly knows squat. He also told me that if they had numbed the toe properly I shouldn't have felt the reset at all. I even showed him photos of the plaster thing they put on me and he was like WTF where did you go??!? The way my foot was bruising he believed that she actually damaged the toe further than helping me. So here's the deal, don't go here unless you want to remain injured or ill. Fuck this place. Awful. My son stayed at emergency room 17 hours and on call orthopedic was absent. The whole hospital did not have orthopedic. Patient had to wait for the next day to see the orthopedic...However, I took him to another hospital where he was under care immediately. NO ON-CALL ORTHOPEDIC IN THE HOSPITAL! Is this a hospital or what. Very bad experience. Choose different hospital if you can. My son suffered 17 hours while your orthopedic was absent. There was nobody to help my son. Let me first say to everyone who has reviewed poorly, I am hoping some are following up with the New York Board of Health or any other services directly addressing elderly care. I am not elderly. I am 40 years old. I am telling you now, hospital was a nightmare. I called an ambulance. Worst back pain I've ever had in my life. I could barely move. 15 years in the food service industry caught up to me. Tip off #1, the emt's tell me to moan louder or no one in the ER will tend to me. Entered at 5pm. 1st nurse sees me at 8pm. Gives me drugs and tells me "now I can go back to reality". As I lay in the hallway on a stretcher, orderlies ask me about my iPhone laying on my chest "is that the iPhone 6plus?" And I respond "can I see a doctor?" Without being examined, a PA tells me at 10:30pm I'm being discharged and the papers are printed. No doctor has examined me. I try to move and the pain is so intense I howl in pain, I'm given more drugs. By midnight I'm given a cat scan and by 2am I'm checked into a hospital room. Here are some of what I encountered: - a nurse asking me to hire her - a nurse using a dirty towel with human feces on it that wasn't mine - dirty bed pan underliners laying on the floor for days - nurses and doctors implying I could be a drug addict - doctors not examining me and alluding to conditions I may have - doctor telling me my MRI results when I never had an MRI - a nurse telling me some employees steal from patients - a doctor telling me my cure will be finding "zen" - a doctor telling me I can cure my back problems by going to "massage parlors" - being prescribed 11 different drugs that are not suppose to be prescribed together - being told by doctors and nurses I needed physical therapy but on the weekend there was one physical therapist on duty... I was there 5 days and got 1 physical therapy session I couldn't do because the therapist came right after many drugs were administered - physical therapist only spend 15 maximum minutes with a patient. You only have one chance when they see you. You can't request them to come back later. - verbal disrespect to the elderly was rampant amongst certain nurses and doctors - listening to arguments amongst nurses and nursing assistants about who isn't working enough and who isn't getting time off I finally decided enough was enough and I had to escape. I demanded to get transferred to NYU or some other hospital. They wouldn't do it. So, I called up a friend and left. Could barely walk but I had to get out. Now my insurance is fighting with the hospital because they can't make heads or tails of why I was hospitalized for 5 days with a vague diagnosis of "back pain". It took almost one month to get a doctor from Sinai to see me after my discharge. I found a physical therapist through Zoc Doc and being re-evaluated from scratch. Because of the time off from work and lack of a proper diagnosis my job now views me as a liability and don't understand my Sinai doctor's vague diagnosis so they don't want me to come back to work. But boy or boy did they prescribe a litany of drugs. The Mount Sinai in Queens is a nightmare. Don't go. If you have to go, be sure to follow up with the New York Department of Health like I am. Don't just tweet your outrage - commit to action and change. read more

Worst ER ever. Ew. Ew. Ew. In the past I've gone out of my way to go to Lenox Hill and NY Presbyterian ERs, despite living two blocks from this hospital. About two weeks ago, I decided to come here since it was a fairly minor issue (draining an abscess) and it was late at night, and I wasn't going to travel 30+ minutes each way to another ER. The wait wasn't all that bad, about an hour or so. However the waiting room was FILTHY, trash everywhere. I was sure I was going to leave sicker than I came in just from that. They took me back to the "fast track" area which is really just tiny curtained cubicles. First, I get into the cubicle and see this horrifying site (see picture). Yes, that is blood all over that lamp, and no, that is not my blood. Had I not been in terrible pain and on painkillers, I would have said something about it, but I just wanted to be done. But uhh, copious amounts of other people's bodily fluids in one part of the treatment area doesn't convince me that anywhere else is particularly sanitary either. The PA looked at the abscess, said he didn't know if he could drain it, so he'd poke it with a needle and see. Ok, that's fine. So he did, and then proceeded to squeeze it forcefully (and extremely painfully) without even asking if it hurt or if I needed pain meds, even though I was actually crying in pain at one point. If I hadn't taken a half of a percocet at home before coming I would have passed out from the pain. I was so light headed from it I couldn't even get up off the gurney for 5-10 minutes afterwards. I've had this done before, where they injected with local anesthesia, incised, drained, and packed, ta da, all set, no pain, no antibiotics necessary. Of course since he used a needle he couldn't pack it, meaning afterwards it immediately closed up and stopped draining. Given what I had seen of the hospital so far, when he came back and put gauze and tape on with his bare hands, I actually had to check that he had worn gloves when he did the procedure (thank god he had). They gave me a prescription for antibiotics (which I've never required in the past when they did a proper job of it), and I immediately noticed that they had my birth year wrong on the prescription, despite the fact that the registration woman had my driver's license in her hand while registering me. The next day I called the hospital to correct the error in my birth year so I wouldn't get a bill and have a huge hassle when my insurance claim wouldn't process. After explaining the situation to someone on the phone, she transferred me. Someone else picked up the phone, but before addressing me, I heard him saying to someone else "Who doesn't know their own birthday?!" Maybe the same kind of person that can't read a date off a driver's license correctly?? I understand that people make mistakes but really? So of course I got a bill, not for my copay, but for $319 that my insurance apparently "may reimburse me for". First of all, I checked online and my insurance already paid all the charges except the $100 copay (the one thing I wasn't billed for?). Secondly, this $319 was for an incision and drainage procedure, which they DIDN'T EVEN DO. The only reason they get one star is because it only took two hours from me walking out my apartment door to me walking back in my apartment door, and the fact that I didn't walk away with any worse problems than I went in with. Seriously, do not waste your time going to the ER here. Take a cab and go elsewhere. My husband had chemo recently, and his (Mount Sinai in Manhattan) doctor had recommended that he go to the ER at a Mount Sinai hospital if he got a fever, since they would have it all in the system. He got a fever and felt awfully sick, so he went to the nearest Mount Sinai at the time -- Queens...what a huge mistake. In short, there were only a few patients waiting, yet he was led to a bed next to a puddle of probably vomit WITH SOME OF IT STILL AT THE LEDGE OF THE BED. He pointed it out, and the nurse said she'd tell someone about it. Fast forward one hour and a half later, nobody had come to clean it up and nobody has come to check on him either. I understand it's an ER and priority is given to the gravity of each patient's situation, but there was barely a handful of patients there and surely one nurse could have come to get the vitals and ask him what was going on or at the very least acknowledge his existence sitting on the vomit bed after having had chemo a week ago! (And yes, he did mention to the front desk intake that he just had chemo.) After waiting for two hours, he just left. A man (not a doctor or nurse) tried to stop and placate him, but it was too late. Mount Sinai should take note of this miserable branch before it drags down its bottom line. read more

Horrible service I waited 2hours to get inside the emergency room then i had to wait another 1 hour for doctor then another 2 hours for bed and I am still waiting. I could really die and nobody would care. I came in with severe stomach pain waiting for last 5 hours+ made my pain numb horrible horrible horrible service. They keep saying they don't have enough beds truths is they are under stuff and people that works there takes their sweet time. I came here after having my knee dislocate at local nightclub. I was entered to the ER triage department and gave them all my information. They told my vitals and my nurse Kenny was absolutely amazing. He was so patient with me and made me feel so comfortable. After, I got an xray done by Pedro Rivera. He was also so patient with me because I was in so much pain I can barely do an xray! He made my experience so much better and was extremely efficient. Afterwards, my PA Michael Baldino was a great PA. He dealt with me with my pain and I am a difficult patient trust me. He assisted Dr. Farzon Nahvi who was an excellent doctor. They both popped my knee back into place and I screamed like a psychopath. Haha.... however I am ok now and I want to thank all the clinical staff who assisted me in my time of need. I ended up having to come in through the ER to get a ring cut off. It certainly wasn't an emergency, but I saw the ER on a Saturday night. The ER waiting room is pretty run down looking - small measly tv, empty tissue boxes, chairs not completely in a row - and figuring out where to register could have been clearer. To be honest, the wait is what I would have expected - it took us two hours to get out of there. I don't know enough about health care management to know whether this should have been faster. It sort of seems like this process could have taken less than half the time, but since our case wasn't urgent, who knows. The doctor, whom we had a total of 15 minutes of contact with, seemed knowledgeable and not too rushed. But he was working with three patients at a time, so I appreciated his attentiveness - once we were in his purview. One complaint I have is that if I was in for something more serious, I'd be upset with the lack of privacy in the ER department. I was mostly aware of everything else that was going on in the ER and what ailments everyone had, how serious everyone's condition was. There aren't enough places for visitors or friends to sit outside of the waiting room, either. read more

I went to this ER in March for very bad COVID19 related symptoms - chest pain, shortness of breath, tachycardia. I am otherwise healthy and have never in my life had such symptoms. The doctor who saw me bluntly refused to test for COVID, and also didn't wear a mask. I was left on a gurney behind a curtain for six hours and I was very literally ignored any time I tried to get the attention of someone passing by. I can appreciate that the ER is a busy, difficult place, but this seemed like an astounding level of negligence. A week after that experience, I managed to get proper care AND proper diagnosis at Mt Sinai in Manhattan. I was COVID positive and kept for 48 hours. I was uninsured during all of this, so as the bills began to roll in, I had to figure out my options. Medicaid would only cover back to April 1. Fortunately, almost all of my bills ended up being forgiven under the coronavirus funding for uninsured patients, except one: my bill for Mt Sinai Queens. So I called some time in April and was assured by a supervisor that they would take care of this bill and not to worry. I asked her to email confirmation and she said that wasn't necessary. Great! But I'm not a dummy. I always follow up. I went online in June to check my bill status, just to make sure everything was kosher. Sure enough, the bill was still there. When I called to discuss this, the woman on the phone had no knowledge of the previous guarantee, there were no notes in my account, and I was expected to pay in full. I was a patient from 4/20-4/22 on 3 West; brought in as a stroke protocol/TIA. I wanted to express my deepest thanks to the ED staff; Dr. Shapiro, nurses, PA's, nurse assistants, radiology, patient rep, transport). I don't remember all the names but I do remember the face and the care I received. From the time I presented to the ED until the time I was brought up to the floor I was treated with respect, kindness, all questions answered. The neurology consult; Dr. Stein was fantastic; thorough exam, explained everything and together we came up with a plan for my care. The care on 3 West was great. Forgive me if I forget your name; just know you were greatly appreciated. I want to express my thanks to nurses (Priya, Llomo, Maria, Edwin). PA's (Etan; there was a female PA who's name I can't remember; she saw me in the ED. Nurse assistants (Bertha, Simone, Opal we share the same birthday; and those who I can't remember their names. Dietary (she helped me set up my online meal orders). Housekeeping; always smiled and said hello. We shared cleaning secrets. The lab tech who took my blood every morning; she is "painless" !! My thanks to Dr. Hongo; explained everything to me, answered all my questions and had a plan for my care. I was surprised at the good quality of the food. The chicken looked like chicken; the beef looked like beef; good selection variety and ample portion size. The cinnamon carrots were outstanding ! Please share the recipe. Many thanks to the nurse manager who came to see me on my last day; thanks for the conversation and the attention to care. I love the idea of the large, clear ID's. There is a face behind those masks and you don't need binoculars to see the ID. If anyone in senior management views this review please share a "job well done" for me !! read more

I've now been waiting for two hours just for a bed. This place is honestly the worst hospital in new york and I don't know why I came here? The staff is friendly enough, but they don't have enough staff, enough beds, or enough doctors. I'm sure mount Sinai is making money, but I guess they're trying to cut costs. It shows. If this were a restaurant I could refuse to pay because the service is that bad. But sadly, I can't do that here. I'm forced to continue to wait and hope that nothing is seriously wrong. Over an hour for an emergency visit to get my bf's dislocated shoulder popped. Still waiting for treatment.... I agree he isn't in a deathly situation, but it's the longest appointment for a dislocated shoulder and dislocated shoulders become more problematic the longer you wait. They recommend all this stuff like radiology and medicine. It seems all unnecessary, and it looks like the hospital is just trying to make more money. The ER isn't that busy but it's taking very long to get any treatment. So far I only saw one doctor and most are nurses. The doctor already told my bf that he will refer to a physician in ER to take care of the shoulder but he hasn't appeared. Probably eating a sandwich somewhere read more

Been to the ER here twice, and had a bad experience both times. If you have a low-priority case, you will be made to wait for hours stacked upon hours. In my most recent visit, I had been injured in a fall, and was made to sit around for considerably longer than the length of a baseball game (which I was watching on TV, ha). No painkillers, no nothing. Just endless waiting in a plastic chair that hurt my posterior. I eventually got an x-ray. At the time of my visit, they said the x-ray results were fine. A week later (!) they called and said, "Actually, you might have hairline fractures, we can't quite tell." Brilliant! There's a similar story in an earlier review, so I can only conclude that these guys have a backlog of x-rays and it takes up to a week to properly review them. Not too helpful, is it? After my visit, I got three bills, staggered across about ninety days. They charged for the doctor's time (I paid about $50 for each of his eight sarcastic, dismissive comments); the x-ray (oddly, the cheapest thing); and the "you showed up" fee, which was - get this - nearly $1,500. And that's after my insurance negotiated it down! So, it was about $2k total for that plastic chair, the inconclusive x-ray, and an Advil. Money well spent, right? Unless you are actually on the verge of death, I'd recommend a 24-hour urgent care place instead, for a savings of about 95%. read more

I've been in the ER of Mount Sinai queens hospital a couple of times before and I've always been given a good service and treatment until 2 days ago: Sunday, June 2nd 2019. I was transferred from city Md to the hospital with a doctor note and a report, due to my extreme level of pain caused by a herniated disk and a sciatica. I arrived there around 9:30-45 pm and was given a wheelchair since I couldn't walk. It was crowded, so I asked the security guard who escorted me in to give my note to the nurse, but he said she wouldn't take it and he asked for my name to sign me up, until the nurse (from an Asian background) is less busy. After one hour sitting in the wheelchair right in front of the registration desk, she finally approached me to ask me if I needed to see a doctor, I replied : yes, and tried to show her the note, but she said : oh ok, what's your name ? I gave her my name again and she returned to her desk. Another hour later, with the pain substancially increasing, I couldn't sit anymore with my nerves compressed at the bottom of my back. Also, I've seen two patients (Caucasian) who she decided to admit immediately because they were insisting and complaining about the pain (which was clearly over played). So I got up from my wheel chair and went to ask her if she can provide me with a bed to lie down while waiting for my turn or find me a solution as the pain was unbearable. The shocking fact is that she said that she wasn't sure, and ignored me immediately ! And when I insisted she literally asked me : what condition do you have ? After 2 hours sitting there she didn't make the slightest effort to assess my emergency level or even look at the doctor note that I tried to show her in the first hour I was waiting !!! I was irritated and I found it unprofessional, inhuman, and discriminatory, so I spoke up, telling her that if I can't have a solution I would rather leave, while I couldn't even stand still, and that she didn't bother to sign me up correctly. She simply ignored me and called the security guard on me, even if I wasn't harming anybody ! He escorted me to my Uber and tried to be compassionate, he was clearly more human than her. I came back home, but couldn't stand the pain, so I called 911, they sent me an ambulance and drove me back again to the hospital. When I arrived at 12:30 am I was placed in a bed in the hallway with the folded sheets thrown on my feet, no plastic bag, no socks, nobody to care !!! I had to ask the nurses in the ER front station to help me with that, and even so, one of them came with the bag, handed it to me and put the pair of socks next to my head, and said there you go! I told her that I can't reach my feet and that I have a lot of pain, but she simply ignored me and joined her desk until the other nurse (Russian) came and helped me out. At 3am, I finally have been seen by the doctor and given an injection. I had to ask to be discharged just to leave around 4am, because it was cold in that hallway. So I literally have been in extended pain for more than 5 hours !!!! from my arrival around 9:30pm on Sunday until 3am on Monday !!! Because of an incompetent and inhuman nurse and a short staffed hospital in a busy weekend. Clearly this was an awful experience and a shame for a hospital like mount Sinai. I'm not sure I'll ever come back there or even recommend it to anybody. The essence of any health system especially in a country like USA is humanity and equal treatment regardless of the race or ethnicity after all. That wasn't the case. read more

My husband was admitted to Mt. Sinai Astoria in July and saw a neurologist while in the Hospital. After he was discharged a follow-up Visit was scheduled by Mt. Sinai with that Neurologist as a regular outpatient visit with a Copay of 35.00. A month later he received a bill for $200.00! I questioned the Bill and was told that this Doctor is part of Hospital Services and Faculty Practice. When checking for that visit nobody at the front desk explained to me or my husband that this visit would cost $200.00 plus a copay! If we had been informed of this we would have not proceeded with this appointment. And trying to get someone from the Billing dept on the phone is a full-time job. I never thought that Mt. Sinai would be so greedy. This is not only a completely shady business practice but totally unprofessional. Patients should be told upfront that certain Doctors are billed differently. It's bad enough that patients and caregivers are under enormous stress from a horrific life-changing Health event but then to be inundated with a huge bill on top of that is beyond the pale. I would never recommend Mt. Sinai Astoria for this reason as they care more about profit than the well-being of their Patients. Very disappointing. read more

I get bad panic attacks once in a while, preventing me from being able to keep food or even water down. I admitted myself to the ER, a young woman who is clearly scared, and my situation was turned into a whole joke. The doctor made a joke about my anxiety saying it's time to go, lied about medications given to me (it wasn't until i saw the discharge papers) and called security on me while i was throwing up and panicking asking for JUST A MINUTE to get ready. Took myself to LIJ Forest Hills and they immediately did an x-ray and cat scan, found that my lungs were filled with air and that i was severely dehydrated!! Stay away from this hospital if you don't want to face judgment. I never thought it was this bad. read more

I went for a routine physical to Dr. Luke Janson as a part of Mt. Sinai's family practice. The visit was okay, but the billing process has been hell. My physical had been incorrectly coded as a sick visit and therefore my insurance company didn't cover the costs as preventative care. I contacted the billing department to inquire and it's unfortunately outsourced so the representative couldn't answer any of my questions or even provide me with a direct phone number for the provider I saw at the hospital. I should mention I was only able to reach someone after calling every day for 7 days and leaving a voicemail which never was returned. I was asked to fax a copy of the bill (because it's apparently 1980?) or visit the office in person to dispute the services. I'm still dealing with this and haven't had the issue resolved. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. read more

My 94-year old mom contracted COVID-19 and bilateral pneumonia in a local nursing home. She entered the ER alone and it was impossible to get info or updates on her status, because everyone else who had a loved one in the ER was calling for info on their relative. Exhausted, at 2AM, Dr. Bustamante, gave us a thorough report in a kind and gentle manner. He gave us the ability to cope. He said the good news was she lived 94 years but her prognosis was poor. The next day Physician's Assistant Cadiatou kept us up to date on my mom's condition, even calling at 3 am to tell us of her decline and keeping her word that she would give us a report when she went off duty at 7 am. Did we want palliative care to make my mom more comfortable? YES! She was admitted but never got a room; the hospital was p-a-c-k-e-d with patients. My mother died without her family around her on 3/30/2020 at 12:43 PM, but she was not alone. The staff of Mt. Sinai cradled her as she left this life and entered a new one, and we are forever grateful. Colleagues of these professionals are intubated and may not live because they got COVID-19 taking care of their neighbors in Queens. They are true heroes, professionals, angels. Thank you Mt. I got here when my mom checked into the ER room. Very small, very crowded. The emergency room had a huge crowd, but a worker there told me my mom was waiting with the ambulance people because she had a wheelchair. Everything is chaotic there, but it was kind of worse because of the tight space (they need to expand somehow). Nurses don't seem to care if you walk into their area or not (I needed bandages and trash disposal). There was also a lot of sick/dying people on wheeled beds as I tried to make my way into the kitchen area to get water for my mom. Try not to end up here if you don't have to. read more

If I could sum up the whole experience at Mount Sinai Queens in one word, it would be INCOMPETENCE. I came to the ER in the middle of the night complaining of nausea and chest pains. Yes, I know Im young and didn't look distressed but there are certain symptoms that should warrant quick care off the bat. It took about 1.5 hours for someone to get into the room and do my EKG, then another hour for the doctor to come and speak to me only to say that I'm too young for any heart issues thus he doesn't think I should have blood work, but it's mandatory we do a pregnancy test. In the end I wound up refusing the blood work when I heard it was just doing the normal CBC workup that I usually get from my doctor anyway. Nobody even thought of checking me for markers for a heart attack. The whole place looked disorganized, nobody really looked like they were doing their job. There were some people literally standing around and not doing anything. Also nobody seemed to relay any messages from the doctor to other patients and nurses were completely misinformed about procedures, tests, etc. this is not the place to go for a real emergency. read more

I came here for a pulmonary consultation, and I was deeply disappointed. The doctor did one cursory test, told me I was fine, and to discontinue the medication I'd been taking for years without really listening to the symptoms I was experiencing or the reasons doctors had cited to put me on the medication in the first place. He was more interested in teaching the students with him than treating me as a patient. Do not recommend. read more

December 19th, 2018 was my first time at Mount Sinai Queens after many years. They have a new state of the art facility, its clean and well maintained.   I had always thought highly of Mount Sinai Queens based on my past experiences. However, it appears things there have really changed for the worst. Overall quality of patient care was really poor. The inattentive and negligent attitude of the nurse who treated me was very concerning.   When I arrived at the ER, it wasn't busy. However, it did take a while to get registered and be seen by a medical specialist.   I was only seen by a PA (doctors were there, but none cared to come over). I had the flu, and was dehydrated from not being able to retain anything I ate or drank. So it was very surprising to hear the PA tell the nurse not to give me any IV fluids. I had to insist on it before she agreed, and asked him to proceed.   The nurse was a nightmare! He was very aloof and inattentive. He didn't know how to put in a simple IV needle, which resulted in blood gushing out of my veins, all over my hand and stained the blanket I was using. It was a lot of blood. I was really concerned about this, and really alarmed by such negligence. In all the years that I've been to any medical facility, I have never experienced anything like this. Rather than acknowledge the mistake, the nurse assured me that this was completely normal. That nonchalant attitude was really upsetting. When the IV fluid was done, the nurse took out the needle, but didn't apply enough pressure. He just put gauze and tape over the area and walked away. A few seconds later, the gauze was soaked with blood. My mother (who accompanied me to the ER) had to go find the nurse and ask that he help take care of the situation urgently. Again, he was indifferent and unapologetic.   Overall, the PA was nice, though she often appeared mildly irritated. It is my assumption that she was overworked. Although the doctors were there, they never cared to come over. However, I did notice that my discharge papers indicated that I was seen by a Doctor and a PA. That information was not accurate. It appears the PA does all the work, but they bill my insurance company as though I was seen by a doctor (even though that never happened). That's unfortunate and dishonest.   24 hours after I was discharged (i.e. on Dec 20th), I received a text message asking me to take a survey based on my experience at the facility. I gave 3-stars, and also provided my honest feedback about my negative experience with the nurse.   December 21st: I received a call from Mount Sinai Queens. The lady who called initially "seemed" like she was calling to check up on how I was feeling. Turns out the real reason she called was because of the survey. She appeared upset that I gave them a poor rating, and went on a defensive rant about how the nurse is one of the best they have, and that having "a little bit of blood" stain my blanket shouldn't be a big deal. She really went on and on, trying to dismiss my horrible experience and make it seem like its no big deal. Its like she took every opportunity to try to belittle my concerns. I was really shocked by this! If Mount Sinai does not want to receive honest feedback from patients, its best NOT to send out surveys asking for feedback!   Its rather unfortunate what has become of this facility. No doubt the worst inpatient hospital in Queens. Just by my own very recent experience, the medical care is lackluster. and confused - as if the medical staff has no clear direction or sense of what are the best practices in their fields. While I was there, after several conclusions of tests and studies, the "geniuses" there were not able to agree. I came to the ER on Friday with my mom. We came at 5 pm we were discharged at 11:30pm. The wait was so long until we get to see a doctor. They need to improve better for faster services. My mom had pain on her leg and she can't move her feet. I felt like the waiting was getting more worse. read more

Absolutely terrible emergency room. It's not bust at all and 3 doctors asked the same question to my sister and still no treatment. It's now been 3 hours. Floors are dirty , bugs walking around. Total disaster. I might include, nurses we came across are nice but no professional help provided fully. My sister feels worse here than being home and regretted to come here. Today I was scheduled for an appointment with Dr. Schwartz. I was instructed to come 15 minutes early (which I did) and was called in to see the doctor approximately 30 minutes later. In the examination room, a very kind nurse asked me a few questions about the reason for my visit, as well as my medical history. She was extremely efficient and very kind, with a fantastic bedside manner. Approximately 10-15 minutes later, the physician's assistant came to examine me. Unfortunately, it was never communicated to me that I would be seeing the physician's assistant instead of Dr. Schwartz. Before the examination, the physician's assistant spent about ten minutes asking me about my medical history. Part of the way through, she had to leave to take care of a situation with (I'm guessing) another patient. When she walked back she had Dr. Schwartz on speaker phone (on her cell) and was talking to him in my examination room. She told me while she was talking to him, that it was Dr. Schwartz on the phone. She then left again one to two more times and it felt like every time I tried to talk with the her, another mini emergency popped up. When she finally returned again, she told me that she would like me to get a test and that a male nurse/technician would be in momentarily to bring me over for the test. Directly after the physician's assistant left the room, an extremely heated exchange began in the hallway between her and the male nurse. They started screaming at each other and saying the words "shit" and "fuck" as well as the phrase "I don't give a shit" and "You don't give a shit" over and over again. I was very startled and looked out into the hallway to see that they had then moved into another room to finish their screaming match. I sat in the examination room for what seemed like forever, while the physician's assistant and male nurse argued and cursed. I was sad that the other doctor who was in the office (I heard him talking to the custodian who came to empty the garbage in my examination room) did not seem to notice what was going on and instead closed his door. Eventually, I popped my head out of the office after 30 minutes of being abandoned by the medical professionals in the cardiology unit. I noticed that in addition to myself, there was an elderly woman in the room diagonally across from me and that she was stunned that the both of us had been abandoned. There were literally no Mount Sinai employees anywhere!!! I then looked at the woman and told her that I was going to leave because this was the most unprofessional thing I have ever experienced in a medical office. When I made my way back to the front, I alerted the woman at the front desk as to what was going on and that I was leaving because I had been abandoned. As I looked back through the glass door leading back into the hallway with the examining rooms, I saw that the physician's assistant and male nurse had finally come out of the room that they were arguing in and were speaking to the elderly woman who was following me to the front of the office. At this point, I left the cardiology unit and went back home. While I was on my way home, the physician's assistant attempted to call me. She left a voicemail and then I finally picked up and spoke with her. She told me that the staff was under a lot of stress because Dr. Schwartz was having a personal emergency. She also tried to imply that the reason things were so chaotic was because the doctor was not there today. Am I to believe that the only time these employees know how to be professional is when their boss is on the premises and that when he's not there, that they can behave like animals? I told her that everyone in the world is currently stressed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and that stress is not an excuse for the circus that played out today. She also told me that the doctor would be in later in the week on Thursday, if I wanted to see him. At that point, I told her that I have no intention of ever seeing any more doctors at Mount Sinai and that I would be following up with my primary doctor. In addition to the absolute circus that I experienced today, I just want to point out that the cardiology office is probably the last place you want any kind of unprofessional & stressful screaming match to happen, because all of the patients are there for cardiological reasons and we all know that stress can lead to cardiac events which is honestly a lawsuit just waiting to happen! Overall, what happened today during my visit at Mount Sinai Cardiology (25-20 30th Avenue, Fifth Floor) was extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. No patient should ever have to experience anything like the circus I experienced today. read more

Aka Mount Suicide. Because it's cheaper with the same result. Clueless doctors, lazy nurses, waiting 8+ hours for them to give me a test my PCP already ordered. Took 3 hours to get an IV in my arm, 4 hours for them to actually attach it to a bag Honestly, if you're in pain and desperately need an emergency room, take a cab to a better borough. Don't waste your time. Or alternatively, suicide is about the same as coming here. Literally pick your poison. read more
