This story is about a black substitute teacher. It was 1:00 PM. That was the time just written in the logout book. The substitute teacher then gave his ID badge to a short elderly white woman admin. He left the office and proceeded to the front waiting area. While in the area, he noticed that the gym students were doing some type of test so they were not in their normal PE clothes. The teacher never spoke to nor interacted with anyone during this time. It had been about 5 minutes since the teacher had left the office. The same woman he had given his ID badge to cam up to him and said that he had to sit down by the front door or wait outside. He told her that he would do no such thing and that he worked for FCPS Fairfax County Public Schools and he knew that was not a requirement of its employees. He then said that the woman was racially harassing him and that he recognized her behaviour as such. The "lady" leaves and no more than 5 minutes later police officer comes over to the teacher and asks him to leave or wait outside. He can tell that the officer is only doing what was requested of him. The teacher again refuses to leave. No more than 5 minutes go by and again 2 assistant principals arrive to continue the harassment of the teacher. They tell him he is creating a disturbance. He disagrees. In the middle of their arguing the teachers ride called and he leaves mid-argument. He had a teacher request him for the next day. The students, "Respect and like you." was her rationale for asking him to sub her science class. But he knew that the racist white admins at Luther Jackson would, and did, prevent him from ever subbing at his alma matter again. Luther Jackson is a less than ideal environment for black children. They have no support from the culturally incompetent and racist white people that make the decisions there.

Every school in Fairfax county has to abide by the cell phone policy and I find it problematic because listening to music helps me focus and Spotify is blocked on the computers and Pandora has too many ads. Most kids are nice and the teachers try, not all of them are perfect but they do their jobs. I am looking back at horror stories from when they were renovating this place so I'm glad we're not going through that anymore! One of my teachers let me make the seating chart because she didn't want to. I don't like the metal detectors, according to the school news paper 77% of kids think that they don't improve safety. But not really something I can control they have them at all secondary schools in Fairfax. (Or at least are trying to). One of my friends backpacks keeps going off because it has metal attached to it so they get stopped every morning. There is a crowd for everyone here and it is genuinely one of the best schools I've attended. The staff is wonderful and my councilor is wonderful. They have a lot of programs and even though the classes are stressful because Fairfax... they can be really fun. If you find an unblocked game website you're good to go! A lot of people who were students come back as teachers because they enjoyed it, might see me as a teacher here in a few years, not quite sure what I want to be though. If it were up to me, I would remove the SOLS but I can't do that. All and all this is a pretty nice school--just don't mind the random red goop on the ceiling in the language bathroom that's been there for a year, we don't know what that is, might be an alien not gonna lie. Also it's overcrowded and the halls regularly come to a standstill multiple times a day. I thought I might miss the place when I graduated, but I loathe this school nearly two years later. I only hope my generation can fix the mess you all made of the school system. Grow as a community and try to think what it's like being a young adult treated this way before your students resent you more than they already do.

These empanadas routinely run out before the game ends because they are THAT good, the volunteers working the stand are some of the friendliest parent volunteers running a concession stand. This is borne out by the fact that there are alumni who sponsor different innings even though they have long moved out of the area. Impressive in so many ways. Most high school concession stands have joyless packaged foods that are the antithesis of homemade. It is a testament to Annandale High School's athletic boosters and specifically their baseball team volunteers to have added this delightful twist to the usual high school concession stand fare.

The voting tables are separated with plenty of space to fill out the voting paper. Best of all, I received the immaculate "I VOTED" sticker when submitting my vote into the machine! The only minor negative are the political parties last ditch effort to provide "sample vote" brochures displaying their candidates marked. I could see how a voter, who's new to voting or not familiar with English, would become easily confused and accidentally vote the incorrect candidate. There is a decent amount of parking. For overflow purposes street parking is available.

My child's classmate reported a peer being punched in the face and the teachers doing nothing about it. The curriculum is very rigorous, which is great, however, 1 unit in almost every class usually lasts around 3-4 days: they cover too much in such a short period of time to try to cram everything in, and make the students learn the material through constant assessments. This is fine as they get a wide berth of knowledge, but don't learn the "in-depth" material and reasons behind the concepts unless they stay for another few years (this is because of their "spiraling" curriculum where they revisit concepts to add more depth). Every week, they have at least 1 quiz/test, (because of their math studies), but most weeks, it's 2 or 3. In addition to this, if your child stops for 30 seconds to tie their shoe 2 minutes after dismissal times due to a bathroom stop, they will immediately be asked to attend "Late Bird" for ~$45 because they are "delaying". There is no PE for middle/high school unless you take it as an elective. Lastly, the culture there is very toxic. There is hardly any sense of community as everyone is competing with each other and children often learn, from their peers, to believe that receiving a 99% on their test is "poor performance". The teachers do little to combat this, and this is the same attitude they have towards kids calling out derogatory comments in the midst of lessons.

Westminster's teachers are passionate about their subjects and truly go the extra mile to help students achieve academic success. Even more importantly, the emphasis of the school, as guided by a devoted administration, is the holistic growth of each child. It starts with the etiquette and respect for one's elders that is expected of all students; it continues with opportunities for enrichment such as taking classes on public speaking. It "ends" with the 8th grade play, the last of nine annual shows in which those who have attended Westminster since kindergarten will have performed a major role and which allows students to blossom into the poised, self-confident, self-aware, and ultimately well-rounded people they have consistently been raised to be. The lessons and impact of Westminster really never end. I cannot tell you how much my son mentions his time at Westminster and thanks its community for building him into who he is today. He also often speaks of accomplishing tasks "neatly, completely, and with pride," a Westminster expectation for every student, faculty and administrative staff member of the school. She actually needed to change her menstrual pad, but couldn't! Another child was denied a water fountain break after playing sports. And I could go on... The school is all about control and the headmaster's ego. And about school plays. . Please, keep your children far far away! There are other excellent private schools in our area and we are also fortunate enough to have very good public schools too.
