I graduated from this hell hole last year, '25. And has been quite possibly the worst high school I've ever been to. I've been the multiple high schools before as I am a military student and as I was PCS from California to Virginia where I am now I was excited because you know big school new friends hallelujah right? Wrong. So getting into the school as a military student, they fucked up my transcript and all my credits so my mother and I had to fight to get my credits transferred from California to Virginia because they've never done this before. Excuse me you are a purple star, School and you've never done this before with the military student. Are you insane? Anyways the only reason there are purple star school is because I spoke at the purple star like speech thing and so you know that's something I did by the way. So I came in second semester of sophomore year, so I finished that my geometry teacher was my favorite teacher of all time at the school no doubt about it. If we're talking the arts program, I personally was a choir kid which is really good and we were able to grab our numbers in the three years from when I joined so that was good. Fast-forward to junior year around mid early October shit started happening. I'm very religious. I am a Jew. I am very proud of my Jewishness, in a very proud of the people that I surround myself with as a Jew. My friend got Nazi salute that on a bus they were small because everywhere I got hate crime. Multiple of my other Jewish friends got hate crimes and my parents had to go up to the school and threaten them to keep me and my friend safe because I did not want to go to school. My mental health got so bad during this time. Period that I had to wake up and tear myself out of my bed because that's how fucking bad the administration of this fucking school did not handle antisemitism or racism because it wasn't just antisemitism because there were multiple people making multiple comments about so many other things that surrounding me my friend group I was pissed junior year flies by I fucking hate crime. I have to have this whole conversation with a girl who said some fuck shit to me in front of my friends I was talking to them and I got fucking pissed right fast-forward to senior year. My friend goes into the boys bathroom and there is still a swastika from the previous school year. there have been multiple swat sightings throughout, said school year and there has been nothing done about it. The only person who really did anything about anything was my parent and Miss Hampton because those are the people who actually looked out for your children and who actually looked out for me in my family so no the school is a fucking piece of shit. The admin are absolutely insane. It won't do anything about anything. Anyways, this school sucks don't go here. I'm so fucking mad at the school. read more

There's a certain meanness about some (not all) of the 7th grade AAP teachers. I just found out that one teacher that my son is having a problem with makes $123,000 a year for half a years work. This is the average salary for a full university professor! This is why our property taxes are so high in Fairfax county. Also, my son is afraid to use the bathroom because of the criminal elements that hang out there. School security is non-existent and I often see them hanging out at the 7-11 down the street. It's a pretty good school. Special education staff really try hard to help your child or children to be successful. We've had issues in the past but last year and this year I have seen a real change in my son as a whole and with his studies. JROTC has helped my son be more apart of a working team, such growth. read more

I went to this school from 7th-12th grade, this school is so uninterested in what the actual needs of their students are its very sad. They are only ever concered with standardized test scores and meeting their state requirements, basically only want to look good on paper. They would refinish the gym floors about twice a year and that would be the biggest investment they made every year. They would put a flat screen on the football field but cut the funding for the whole arts program for the 3rd year in a row (I knew this because teachers would complain). We unfortunately had at least 1 student commit suicide every year, one year it even happened in the bathroom sadly but nothing was ever done to support anyone in need. Personally I had to have 3 different doctors beg them to give me accomiations for years (you know the ones that are legally required but there is no information about how to receive them). They finally relented my senor year when I was at risk of messing with their 100% graduation rate (school staff loved to bring up that statistic but they didn't prepair half their students properly, just pushed them through). Dispite them acknowledging I wasn't going to graduate without it they still only gave me 3 months to catch up and finish highschool because they said they didnt want to pay for the online program for the remaining 6 months of school I had left (I'm not kidding my councilor told me this). And it's not just the staff and councilors, lots of the teachers are a big part of the problem. The teacher for AVID, which is literally an academic support class for students who are less privileged or first generation americans (something she is neither of), once told me to stop crying because "its not that big a deal, it could be worse". This was durring one of those meetings where me, my parents, and my doctor's begged for accommodations that I was ridiculously overqualified to receive. Still took another 2 years after that meeting for me to receive said accomiations. If things had got any worse I either would be sueing this school or my parents would be because they pushed me to be one of the unfortunate students who didn't make it out alive. So yes Lake Braddock could be worse but then I also would probably be dead if that were the case. There is just absolutely no reason for a school that has the resources that this school has to be as bad as it is. read more

Alright, I didn't even think it was possible to check in, let alone write a review for a school...but both Brad B and Jeff W have given totally different ratings so...I'm here to make up the difference. I give LB a 3.5 star rating ( Yelp: we need a way to give a .5 review). I graduated from here, and my brother attends now. It's a secondary school (a middle and a high school). There are a lot of students in one class year...my graduating class was about 700 students. The teachers, for the most part, are great. However, they could use more improvement on the quality of teacher's and quantity of teacher's they provide. I felt like most of my teachers were running around because they have so many students and could not provide the adequate attention for an individual student. The guidance counselor office could also use some help, as most days and times my and my brother's counselor is not available. It's very frustrating to track him down to ask about classes, recommendations, and nominations. The school has many elective classes and extracurricular activities available for students. read more

LBSS is a great school. I have one student in middle school and one in high school. It's a huge school, but they do a great job of making it feel smaller and less intimidating. Lots of great opportunities for students as far as electives, clubs, sports etc. Some really caring staff and teachers. Kids were always well prepared for SOLs. Lots of school spirit too, which is so nice to see! Highly recommended! read more

Always a good time at LB. Came for the home coming parade and the food trucks! Lots of choices. Plan ahead a park for an easy get away. It was a great nice. Lots of purple and gold to go around. Hard to find people due to the team spirit and fans wearing school colors. Fun over all! read more

Attend 1.5 years starting 7th grade. Was extremely crowded with 4200 students 6-12, and has only become more crowded over time. Very little time for lunch, and 6 minutes in between classes. No time to socialize, especially with very strict teachers. Most teachers were not so bad, and some were even good. But the teachers that were bad made my life hell. There is one teacher that taught 8th grade civics that contributed a great deal to my thoughts of self harm, and to extent suicide that I had during the first semester of 8th grade. She and another English teacher I had during 7th grade actively punished me for thinking for myself, and trying to do things differently. The aforementioned English teacher assigned us to write a cutesy hallmark-style card from the main character of a book we were reading to the main character of the book our partner was reading. I had to write to napoleon, so I checked all of the boxes for decoration but I tried to be as formal as possible because well... I was writing to Napoleon Bonaparte. I bet if some time traveler sent him a generic birthday card that they would not have a good time. On the rubric she gave me a decent grade, but she said something to the effect of "You obviously must not receive many cards because this is not what a hallmark card looks like." Again, this is not how all of the teachers are but the few very bad ones ruined the experience for me. Those teachers combined with the inability to make any friends due to the excessively short breaks left me in a very bad spot. I was harming myself and thinking of suicide before my parents put me in a different school. If you are reading this as a parent, your child might fit in if they are going in with prior-friends or are part of a sports team, but if they are eccentric or different from the norm in any way, the school and it's teachers will set them up for failure. I'm a more introverted person, and I don't make friends as easily as others. I was not able to make a single friend at that school. It's so crowded everywhere that I was too overwhelmed to even think about socializing, not to mention that I had basically no time to do so. That combined with the borderline-abusive teachers crushed my self-confidence and to an extent my will to live. It made me think things like: "If nobody will even talk to me and my teachers hate me I must be such a failure that I'm not worth the food and water I consume." In the end, it damaged my mental health for years and over-all it felt more like a gulag than a school to me. read more

As a Lake Braddock Senior this year, 2018, I can speak from the prospective of a student. I was either very lucky or easy to please, but I'd say that every year you can guarantee having great teachers. 5 out 7 teacher's usually would be both excellent people and excellent at teaching the material, while the other 2 or 3 would usually be very nice, but not good at teaching, or be the other way around. I would recommend going here for the classes as well, since this school has a lot of money flowing in and an excellent music program. You also can bet your kid will find something they like to do with the 100 or so electives and core classes available. I got accepted into every college I applied to, I bet a little of that has to do with being a bruin. read more

I doubt anyone would be picking a school district based on a Yelp review, but having just graduated my second kid from LBSS I cannot say enough good things about this school. One of the best public educations you can get in the country - the teachers are generally exceptional, especially the ones teaching the advanced placement classes. The student body is very diverse, very international, so students are exposed to a wide range of backgrounds and traditions. Extra curricular offerings are wide ranging and top notch, from the competitive sports teams to the renowned orchestra to the professional level theater offerings. We bought a house in this neighborhood before we had kids and are very glad we did. The school is an anchor to this community. read more

This place is terrible!, on some days when a teacher just feels like it. They will scream and get a kid in trouble, even when a students hasn't done ANYTHING! I'm now 19 and graduated from Lake Braddock this year. I realllllly hope people read this because... if you're thinking of recommending this school to your kids. Your kids are going to have a TERRIBLE high school and middle school year. I was sexually harassed my freshmen year, by a 30! Year old MAN! I told the office. What did they do? Absolutely NOTHING! He still worked there. My parents talk to them, the office says "we will talk to him" tf? I wouldn't wish this school on my worse enemy ‍. I had to be in that creeps class the whole rest of the year. Next to his desk. My locker was moved, NEXT TO HIS CLASSROOM! And they gave me 3 week detention... guess who was the chaperone. I was absolutely so upset. My senior year, he now knew I was 18. So he asked me "Who's the first person you'll do once you graduate" !!! I'm just happy! That I graduated and made it out alive. read more

Alright let's just get this straight. Lake Braddock is not a school you want to send your child too. The walls are crumbling away and lets just say the students have numerous problems and are some of the most mean people I think I have ever met. They also have a reputation for starting fights at football games and even selling some very illegal things. Anyways, just avoid this school at ALL COSTS! read more

They have numerous programmes that your child can be involved in, whether it be marching band, fall, winter, and spring sports, or organisations like SGA. There are plenty of extracurricular activities. They offer a wide variety of courses, with more languages than competing schools. They also offer AP courses for practically every subject. They really help you get ready for college as well with the career centre so you can be in control. Not to mention the faculty and students are both great people. They bands, all of them, are top tier musicians, and your child can be a part of that starting from any level. This is a place of equal opportunity for all. read more
