I was advised not to go with them. The reviews were crappy but he had some people call with reference. I was super excited that he could show up immediately. I hired them to rebuild two chimneys, apply two coats of paint, caulk, rebuild a d-log siding gable, replace roof screws and put a door cover up. Seemed like everything was going great until clean up day. Next thing I know Greg is doing work he never quoted, I never authorized and was never anything I would have agreed to and telling me I owe him money. When I finally got to see the work that I authorized and paid for I was disappointed. A cable that had been attached to the prior chimney was left swing off the house. Debris from the removal of rotting chimneys was left where it fell in the yard, in the driveway and screws were left on the roof in the yard and in the driveway. The door cover is great if your 5'8" but at 5'11" you may suffer a severe head injury from its low support strut. This unsolicited work that I did agree to is bogus. I expect Greg and I will be in Court soon. My best advice to anyone reading this is to keep looking. This is not a company you want to hire. I wish I had not! read more

Couldn't be more pleased with the newly expanded roof and shed dormers Greg added to our cabin in Blueridge. We had an emergency need to have our roof reattached and Greg and his team stepped up, prioritized our job, and started it within a week of finding the problem. He then completed it on time, and in under 2 weeks. We love the addition, the attention to the details we needed as homeowners, and the fact that he listened to our ideas and incorporated them so well. They also cleaned up beautifully! If you see Greg Staffins coming go the other way. This man is a crook and a liar. He quoted us one price and kept saying he would do us right and give us a room we would be proud of. Right off all he did was hound us for money. Used incompetent help and the room was fit to live in. He charges you for workers comp that he doesn't pay and contractors license which he doesn't even have. Took from December 10th until this week to finish. He uses a guy who works for him to do the electrical and he's not even a license electrician. Some of the sorriest work I have ever seen. This man charged us $60,000 to make our back porch into a bedroom, bath and closet That was only 500 square feet. It already had a roof and floor and they used our 4 x4's to frame it up. He uses the cheapest material he can get by with. He kept telling us it was 950 square feet. We even had to buy everything for the bath and all the light fixtures. Finally had to get him to send someone else to straighten out his mess and since the guy had another job during the day it took over a month for him to get it fit to occupy. Mountain Area Recommended Contractors presented as a Licensed General Contractor. They are not licensed as a General Contractor. The concrete job was to be 30 feet X 30 feet. They only poured 29 feet by 23 feet. The concrete was poured on newly excavated red clay; no gravel base was poured. Greg Staffins, owner, said this is because gravel is in the concrete mix, so no need to put gravel base. The finish was very rough and uneven, with gravel sticking out the top of the finished pad more than 1". Worker bootprints were in the concrete. Their solution was to grind down the uneven areas and pour a thin surface coat of concrete over the concrete. When we addressed the unsatisfactory nature of this job, Greg told his crew to pack up and leave and not finish the job. We had to sweet talk them to stay and finish up the other projects they were working on. The drainage was also messed up so badly that the first rainstorm that happened after they excavated and poured the pad our house flooded. I had to dig trenches to get the water to drain away from the house. We are having to hire another contractor to deal with this problem. We have had several concrete experts look at the finished pad and they all agree it is one of the worst jobs they have ever seen. They do not anticipate the concrete repair (surface coat of concrete) lasting. Mountain Area Recommended Contractors, LLC also installed a retaining wall. After one month, the retaining wall is already failing and two inspectors have confirmed that the retaining wall needs replaced or it could be a danger when it fails completely. The retaining wall was built without any draining system, so water is already causing the wall to shift and bulge. I would never use Mountain Area Recommended Contractors, LLC, or Greg Staffins, again. It has been the worst experience we have ever had with any contractor or worker. They present as professional with business brochures, nice shiny trucks with their logo, and talk about how excellent they are. They were absolutely horrible to work with and we are having to pay to have most of the work redone, as well as fix additional problems that they caused. read more

Please save yourself the stress of putting up with this company's inability to properly diagnose your problem, poor workmanship, constant lies, and theft of homeowners' property. This company was contracted to stop a leak in the facia of our cabin porch. They misdiagnosed it as a roof issue and a chimney flashing issue. The workmanship they performed is just horrendous. The caulking and flashing that they applied is absolutely laughable ....... I could've done a much more professional job myself. Now Greg will tell you repeatedly that he is good friends with the judges at Fannin County. After one year and repeated visits out to review his unfinished work and our continued leak, I said that we would probably have to meet again in small claims court, at which he replied, "that's fine, I just had lunch with the judge today, he'll be glad to see me again!" We have had two additional contractors out to evaluate the problem in the past couple of months and they are stating that the chimney cap was never properly sealed and that has been causing the entire problem. When we last mentioned to Greg that we had paid him $3800 to fix a leak that he never fixed and that perhaps he should go ahead and take care of sealing the chimney cap, he had the audacity to say that he was going to charge us another $800 to do so. Unlike the review below, I do not have mixed reviews on Greg and his company ..... my review is an adamant thumbs down ! This man knows that he is scamming homeowners and his "foreman" even alluded that to us. Through my complaint process with the BBB they have discovered that he is NOT licensed and therefore his rating has been reduced from an A to an F. Greg and his crew did work on our cabin in January of 2018. I have mixed reviews and am copying the letter I sent him in October which he has refused to reply even though I have e-mailed and text him. My husband contacted you earlier this year as well as you met with my son when you went back to our cabin in March. I have been to my cabin for the first time this year last weekend. You can image my mixed emotions. Somethings were wonderful, some not so much. First, I would like to commend you on the rails. They were exactly what I had in mind. Second, you promised me you would treat my house like your own. You spoke of your religious faith and how everyone is treated like family. That it would be perfect. In fact you stated that it will look brand new and you would put it on your website. You said those same things to my husband on the phone when the work was completed. We kept our word and paid you. However, I believe that you are a man of integrity and will correct the following. 1. There are two places on the ceiling that I myself pointed out to you that need corrected. One is right in the kitchen ceiling. The other is in the peak. You promised me they would look new. The two areas are still cracked and pulling away. My son pointed them out to you in March and you told him your employees would not leave them that way. I am telling you they did. See pictures photos below. 2. Your employees obviously did not use tape on the walls when they painted. Therefore they used paint to correct their mistakes on my walls. The problem is the paint they used did not match the walls in the hallway. It was a gallon of new paint I had bought to paint the bathroom and living room. It was not even painted evenly on the walls - more slapped on. Therefore, it looks terrible. See additional photos. 3 You can see from the pictures below that most of the tongue and groove was sealed nicely however there are patches that your crew did not seal over. This in no way supports your claim of · treating my house like your own. · it will be perfect · it will look brand new I will be at my cabin on December 29- January 5.
