Like anyone else with an electrical issue, I was terrified at the expense I was about to incur. I called a total of six electricians that represented different companies to try to get the best possible quote -without sacrificing quality of course. The last phone call I made was to Matt. He was the only electrician that asked me for details, and even offered a little bit of trouble shooting over the phone to make sure I didn't spend money on a visitation fee. I could tell that he was a honest person and he really didn't want to take advantage of an easy situation. He arrived at my place and was extremely easy to work with. I was in a pinch while working with my contractor on a project. After demo'ing a wall, a bunch of electric work needed to be rewired (according to my contractor). I found Matt on yelp and called him right away. Matt was extremely helpful and attentive via phone and text; he answered questions and suggested tips to the contractor that ultimately saved a bunch of time/expenses, and in the end, a bunch of electric work was no longer needed. I contacted Matt through his website and he emailed me back in a reasonable amount of time. The reason I am not impressed is that he wanted to give me an estimate over the phone, which is ridiculous. When I told him I decided to go with someone who would do an in-home estimate. He responded by saying that most people seem to prefer a phone estimate because everyone is busy. Not sure I believe that. Too me it seems like a way to "estimate" low and then up the price once the job has been started. Just my opinion. I also noticed that he is one of the non-recommended reviews on Yelp. Really?! Review your own business. Just a little sketchy. read more

Excellent job!! We've used Matt several times. He installed a light fixture, switch and a ceiling fan at our last house. At our current house, we called him to install ceiling fans in six different rooms, including all the wiring. The prices have been very reasonable. We got several bids for the ceiling fans and Matt's was very competitive. Most recently we had him install a new LED lighting fixture where there wasn't one before in the shower. He also installed two LED security lights on the side and back of the garage. They both look great and work great! He is very personable, knowledgable and methodical. We used Carter's Electric this week to install 6 recessed lights and 2 pendant lights. We are ecstatic with the results - it is so nice to have the extra lighting in the house! I do want to mention that in order to install the recessed lights, he had to cut into the ceiling and along the ceiling to extend the wires to a new outlet. I was worried there would be drywall dust everywhere but he covered the furniture and used a vacuum during the cutting and prior to leaving the house so the area was left clean, which was a huge plus. We are long term customers and call Matt Carter whenever we are in need of electrical services at our home or at one of our rental houses. We have also referred him to several other people. I would highly recommend Carter's Electric Service - Matt was extremely knowledgeable, professional, conscientious and friendly. His prices are reasonable. I first called him for a possible emergency - weird smell coming out of an electrical outlet. He was able to come out quickly that day and found that it was not an electical problem - but rather a rodent. Yuck! Anyway as he was out that day I talked to him about updating and adding some outdoor lighting - he offered lots of ideas and sent me an estimate that same day. He came out yesterday and completed all of the work as promised - even saving me money by taking down one of the old light fixtures so I could paint it and putting it back up. It looks like new. When we moved into our home... goodness! The main chandelier in our dining room was hideous! It was bright yellow gold and so dated. So when we finally bought a nice, new brushed nickel one... we were anxious to get it up there. The problem: our 20 foot ceiling. hmmm.... Neither my husband nor I was gonna dare climb a ladder up there.... so I combed Craigslist looking for someone who could install it. Stumbled across Carters Electric. He quoted me about $200... which I honestly don't know if it was a good or bad price... I just knew I needed to get it done and unfortunately, I wasn't very diligent on Yelp yet. He charged $212.50 for the whole job... which included the huge ladder he had to rent and his labor for the job. I must admit... that ladder was huge. But he got up there and swapped the chandeliers quickly and it looks fabulous. We have some other lights in the house that need to be changed out someday when we have the $$ to buy replacements....not sure I would use them again until I did my Yelp research this next time. I'd probably also wait until we had all the tall lighting fixtures bought and ready this time so that it may be cheaper to do all at once. read more
