That's where the Catamount Travel Center Cherokee Exxon in Whittier comes in. We stopped in to do exactly that: take a break from the road, restock supplies, and give our legs a reminder that they still worked. Mission accomplished. The store was relatively clean, well organized, and stocked with a good variety of snacks, drinks, and travel essentials. Even better, the prices were surprisingly reasonable compared to many convenience stores that seem to believe being located near a highway automatically qualifies them to charge airport pricing. One pleasant surprise was the selection of local wines. It's always nice when a travel center offers something that reflects the local area rather than the exact same inventory you can find at every interstate exit from Florida to Alaska. The staff was efficient, everything moved smoothly, and we were back on the road without any drama, confusion, or frustration. And honestly, that's a bigger compliment than it might sound. Travel centers aren't always trying to create unforgettable experiences. Their job is to provide convenience, and this one lived up to its name. Did it knock my socks off? No. Did I leave telling everyone I know about the life-changing convenience store experience I just had? Also no. But it was clean, reasonably priced, well stocked, and did exactly what I needed it to do. I spent most of the visit debating whether this was a three-star stop or a four-star stop. If Yelp allowed half stars, this would probably land somewhere in the middle. But today I'm feeling generous. Four stars. Because sometimes competence deserves a little extra credit.

They seem to have just about everything you could possibly want or need, just without 5-20 options of brands. Simple. Banana chips is one of them. I haven't had them or much dried fruit in several years because sunflower seed oil seems to be used in the process so often with commercial dried foods. If I do find them, they're typically expensive and then taste like crap. So when I came across this expansive display of all these bags of dried fruits and veggies, Banana chips were the first to catch my eye. I startled a few people with my squeal of excitement as I began snatching up bag after bag of dried fruits and veggie chips. Everything I bought was made with a few simple ingredients. No seed oils or dyes, very reasonably priced and everything I bought is very tasty. I'm certain that this place is a treasure trove for people passing through on the Appalachian Trail. I promise that I practiced some self control and left plenty of dried fruits and treats for them as well. That fridge in the back corner of my photo? Full of meat from what we assumed came from a local butcher. It all looked really good and made us regret not cooking dinner at our cabin at least one night. Though we didn't regret any of the good food we had at local diners. Next time though, for sure. Like most places in Hot Springs, they close a lot earlier than we had expected. I think it was around 6:00 when they closed. We were unsure if this was just the usual or due to the community still healing and rebuilding from the hurricanes. So don't make the mistake we made and think you'll just stop in on your way back from a day of adventure and pick up groceries for dinner.

Prices for the items are similar to what you'd find at the upscale markets inside gas stations. However because of the location, this is one of the cheapest option for food/drink in downtown Greenville. This is a good option If anyone wants good service and a pitstop for anyone staying on South Main Street, grab something quick, or eat somewhere simple instead of the upscale restaurants downtown has to offer.
