Bartenders are dope, and the whiskey section is even doper (cheers to having Little Book). The setting is eclectic in the best way. There's mismatched pool tables, random artwork from Jesus to Frida to Christmas lights. Pro tip, go during the week as it gets quite busy on the weekends!

I'd have given them a 5 star review if we'd stopped there. I'm a sucker for dumplings so we ordered the fried pork dumplings, they came a bit soggy with oil, a fast food chain tub of sauce and were unmemorable in flavor. I'd have given them a 3 star review based on just the dumplings. We decided to go for the Pad Thai special for our third dish and got it with chicken. The dish didn't really taste much like any Pad Thai I've ever had but wasn't unpleasant in sauce and noodle, it came with shrimp which was a little odd and the shrimp were a little bit over done. The killer here was the chicken. Have you ever microwaved raw chicken? You know how chewy and dry it gets? Well that's what was in our Pad Thai. It was really really bad. If this was the only thing we'd ordered I would have given them a 2 star review. That Pho though! Good enough that I will go back since the only other Pho I think is remotely as good is the recently renamed Pho R Us in south Asheville and I live a mere mile from Broadways. If I ever venture away from the Pho again and it's good I'll update this review rating!

Located in convenient but random spot, this dive bar is a hidden gem. There was one bartender working, and I believe her name was Gabi. She was an absolute star and complete hustler. She made drinks fast and was totally approachable and incredibly warm. The bar itself was very neighborhood like and clean, but with character. And characters. We ended up going on a karaoke night, and the host was wonderful. He was inclusive and fair and he got involved. The energy was felt by all. Seems like this place has a lot of regulars, and for good reason. While they don't surf through themselves, did you have food trucks sometimes. And they let us bring in some of our own snacks too. Periodically they do art shows for local artists and I believe sometimes they have live music as well although I usually just visit on Sundays in the morning for brunch. Something that has surprised me, however, is that small children are allowed to run around the bar. In my experience people under 18 or even 21 are not usually allowed in bars but perhaps this place is an exception because they serve food. If you're looking for a delicious brunch menu at 10:30 AM on a Sunday the De Soto lounge is the place to be. Just don't be that guy that brings their kids.
