My seven year old son was thrilled to have his "own space" in the loft area. The loft was equipped with a sleeping mat, bedding, TV, a fan, and a couple of bean bags. It was the perfect area for him to have. My husband and I had the master bedroom, and each of our daughters had their own bed/space with the second bedroom and the pull out couch in the living room where a room divider could be pulled for some privacy. The fact that we all had our own space, two bathrooms, and an outdoor space available to us made it far better than a hotel room. The cabin was very clean and stocked with all the basics you could need, like dishes, glasses, cookware, coffee maker, toaster, stove/oven, fridge, microwave, etc. The cabin also had a nice little deck, a picnic table off the deck and a BBQ grill. My son loved The Fun Zone, and the girls and I enjoyed sitting along the creek. For us, there was no cell service in the area and the resort does not have WiFi, so be prepared for that fact. The location is close to many conveniences and tourist sites in the BlackHills. If you are looking for something extremely fancy or luxury, then this place is not for you. However, if you are looking for something comfortable, convenient, and clean that provides a little something more as far as space and peaceful outdoor living, then you will enjoy your stay here. My family and I sure did. We will definitely plan to stay here the next time we are in the BlackHills.

Riders beware before you book READ THIS!…read more We booked this spot based on the website stating "trail access" . I ended up calling due to questions around the permit needed to access trails. I was told to purchase one in town at the Conoco or somewhere else that sells them, ok fine no problem any other places that sell them?? Silence on the phone....crickets...ok ...then I asked about the trail access, hoping to get a site close to it because we have a side by side and I was told, and I quote "oh that trail is very small ", ok, how do we access the the other trails, "I am not sure you would have to call and find out ", really, you don't know the trail system but advertise trail access and have utv/atv pictures plastered on your website. Frustrating. When I said let me speak with my husband we may cancel if we can't access the trails, response was "ok"....huh?!? I mean, your not even going to ask me how you can help or get me a number or I mean just anything helpful? NOPE! She then went on about possible snow at the tree line and that we most likely couldn't ride, but to call and find out, nothing provided to help me find this out! How do you NOT know this, you have trail access? So again, why doesn't it say "seasonal" trail access or a disclaimer to verify trail access with maybe a link or something....anything!?? She then tells me, your UTV has to be licensed, street legal to ride the road to the other trails, but still doesn't know where they are but most likely closed. Small trail map on thier website but when I asked about this trail, wasn't sure if that was a trailhead or the small one she told me about, frustrating. Now, I fully understand, the person who was speaking to me, who was very nice and very pleasant, could be wrong or not understand trails, but for $65 dollars a night and a permit fee on a "hope" to ride, just no. I feel the website is misleading, staff not informed about trail system, SMH. Now, on the site they have a small trail map, is that the trail they are referring to the is small or is this a trail head, is there another trail, THEY HAD NO CLUE. I am aware that as a rider you have to do research, ultimately it's up to us to find trail maps, know the laws etc...but don't advertise trail access and you can't tell me where, how to access, how far is the trail, is it open.....basic questions, should have answers. We have been on a ton of trails, ORV parks, traveling through the US riding and each place provided so much more information, extremely helpful. We canceled at this Campsite due to lack of help or information. Booked today at 9:50am, called with questions then decided to cancel at 12:30pm same-day, still charged $25 dollars to cancel, I understand about covering cost and time, but honestly your staff is not well informed to help riders feel confident in booking/staying.

While visiting Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore, I wanted lodging that was different and unique, and this was perfect. I stayed in Cabin 1, so I can't vouch for the other cabins. Cabin 1 had a wonderful old, loved feel, yet was clean and tidy. It had a large main room with kitchenette, table, futon and VCR/DVD with satellite TV. The cozy bedroom had a comfortable bed with plenty of blankets. The bathroom was very small, yet fulfilled my needs. The property had wifi and an enclosed hot tub, although I did not use either. When I was there (Late May) it got cold at night, but the cabin stayed quite warm. The location is perfect, just south of Hill City, very close to both Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore, close to restaurants in Hill City. If you're visiting Crazy Horse or Mt. Rushmore, don't go to a sanitized cookie-cutter chain hotel. These cabins complete the experience of being in the Black Hills.

The owners, Jan and Steve, are good, gracious midwesterners who put a special touch in all the cabins. The cabins come in two varieties: old, with history, simple, smallish but full of charm, or the new cabins which are modern, bigger, and trendy in decor. Personally, if you're into history, love quaintness, then you might like the older, smaller cabins. Some of them are decorated with antiques (antique dressers). One of the larger ones has a real stone fireplace that was built in the last century. As another poster as mentioned, cabin #1 is my favorite. I have stayed there dozens of times over the years, and it is perfect for 1-2 people. The walls, ceiling and flooring are antique knotty-pine. How cute is that? The older cabins (over 100 years old, at least the one with the stone fireplace) and grounds were part of a tin mining company during the last part of the 1800's, that made the town, part of the same operation which built the Alpine Hotel (if memory serves). Chocked full of history and affordably priced, ESPECIALLY if you stay OFF season. Plus you can hike back behind the cabins. Simply awesome!

There's a dishwasher and washer and dryer and well the site gravel roads. It's easy to get around if you slow down just a tiny little bit there's also a very nice garage where you can step store your motorcycles or like making your camping stuff but it's nice to be able to put some of your stuff away and be safe although I doubt anybody would come back in the hills just in case it's nice it's there. There's ample room in the cabins plenty of living room plenty of seating I'm in a wheelchair and I was able to get around fine I think the doors are either 32 or 34 inches but I found if I was careful when I went through it was not a problem I'm an electric wheelchair jazzy HD.
