Nice clean rooms. Couldn't ask for anymore in lodging. We stayed in a suite that had a king room, queen room, and a sleeper sofa.

The staff here is super welcoming. They're willing to take care of anything you need. It's a great location. Easy to find and close to Mt. Rushmore and Keystone. The room and grounds are well maintained. The only negative is the room was small and the were no drawers to store our things. The lodge has lots of space, though, and they have games available. You also get a discount at the restaurant across the street, and it was delicious. read more

The pictures are very deceptive. We booked a double queen room and were shocked when we opened the door. There were two queen beds and that was pretty much it. There was less than a foot between the wall on either side and only about 3 feet in between the beds. The pillows were paper thin and when we asked if we could have more we were told that they didn't have any. We also asked about the room size and showed the clerk that the pictures make it look much bigger. He said that we were in the smallest room. We were able to look in the room next to us and they were the same size. I'm not sure why he felt the need to lie about that. We had two nights booked but only decided to stay one night and ate the cost because they sure weren't refunding anything. The room was booked based on very good reviews and pictures on booking.com that showed spacious sleeping quarters and amenities such as a continental breakfast. Upon check-in, we discover that our room has two queen sized beds shoved into an area that left less than nine inches from each bed to the wall it was next to and less than two feet between beds. There was less than a foot between the end of the bed and the wall with the bathroom door. Additionally, there were only two outlets, less than two rolls of toilet paper, pillows that were basically as flat as a pancake, no soap for the bathroom sink, and a door with no extra security locks. The door was flimsy and the large window in the door was covered by a very thin camp cabin style curtain. When my friend who had booked and paid for the room for two nights addressed the issue, she was told that we had the smallest room (no reason was given and the next morning, we saw the room beside ours and it was the same size), they had no extra pillows at all (but supposedly they had been ordered and just hadn't arrived yet), and that the breakfast was cold with only toast, cereal, and some fruit (and this was because it was 'complimentary'). We ended up deciding to check out after the first night and moving to a different hotel for the second night. Upon informing the person in the office that morning, they were more concerned about getting us into a different room - with an adjusted, but not discounted, price - and a bad review than taking care of our issues. No offer of a refund or any other type of compensation was given. The one thing I will brag on was that the room was very clean. Other than that, nothing positive can be said about staying at this place. read more

What a wonderful place!! We had reservations and we got delayed on our road trip due to car trouble they rolled our payment over to cover a night 2 nights later. When I made the reservoir thought I was reserving a cabin but it was actually a room at the lodge. They had no problem upgrading us. Very very clean and updated loved the full kitchen. 2 bathrooms n our cabin that slept 7A beautiful property in a beautiful area. And if you stay here you have to enjoy a meal at the Gaslight restaurant right across the street. Amazing food and service. read more

We stayed for 5 days in the Lodge, which was "up the hill" from the office and lobby where cold cereal is breakfast. What the map doesn't tell you is that you have about 20 ft to cross a highway to get to the rooms and drive 1/4 mile down the highway to get to office or a cold breakfast. Our room was adequate, but very dusty.Our TV stand was coated in dust, which doesn't make me feel great about the room. They provide ear plugs because the walls are so thin. You can only get a hot shower late at night or in the afternoon. Morning showers are cold. They will tell you they "refresh every day" but we only got fresh towels twice and no refills on coffee cups, even after we asked twice. On the 3rd day, we came back to our room and my daughter stepped on a large piece of glass, badly cutting her foot. We had nothing of glass in our room. It was either missed before we came (which wouldn't surprise me, with how dusty the room was) or it was brought in when they "refreshed" our towels. Either way, when we showed the front desk the glass, their response was " Well, must have missed that." They did not apologize, offer to clean the room or even check to see where it came from. A shard of glass the size of a nickel should not be "missed" in any room, especially with young kids staying in it. We had a booking conflict and went to talk to the front desk about it. Instead of a calm discussion, we were met with instant rudeness and belittling. Our simple question about the weird working on their emails had the manger yelling at my husband, telling him to leave whenever he wants since he has all our money and a complete lack of respect. There was no calm answering of a simple question. He immediately belittled and demeaned my husband and family members ( we had 25 people staying there!) He mocked the "old man" who told us something different in the afternoon. Even if the rest of the stay was great, I would never return because of how rude the manager was. So, if you like risking your life to cross a highway and get to your dirty room, don't mind glass on the floor or cold showers with super rude employees, this is your place. pros: good location, price was decent, bed was comfortable, decent sized room, easy check in cons: management is horrible, no elevator for golden nugget lodge Issues we encountered: The day we left for vacation I injured my knee...upon check in I realized there was no elevator and we had our 50lb suitcases to lug up the steps so I further injured myself on their steps. I wanted to ice my knee and realized that the freezer had NO ice, NO ice maker and NO ice cube tray. No worries, I'll send my daughter to ice machine. Well there is no vending at the building. You have to get back in your car and drive down the road to the lobby office and buy a bag of ice . My daughter isn't able to drive there so I had to make my way back down the steps to drive down the road and back over to the lobby...the guy said he will get me an ice cube tray which was perfect. while I was there I figured I'd grab some snacks...nope they were all expired by 2 months. One evening we had NO hot water. Called and they said we would probably have to wait until morning...our room was supposed to have 2 beds and it only had one. I brought this and other issues to the manager on phone and she responded with a question to ask if we got fresh towels which we didn't because I didn't want the maid in there. We had plenty of towels for our stay. She didn't apologize for any issue. There was food crumbs in the fridge and on the kitchen floor. The kitchen sink drain and shower drain were disgusting ! Attaching photos to show the filth . Feet were filthy after only a couple hours of being there. Tried to make coffee and it took 22 minutes to brew the tiny pot almost half full so a little over one cup worth. And it was like tinted water when I made it to be strong. Kitchen had the very bare necessities so definitely plan for that if you plan to eat and cook there. I needed to checkout one day early due to my injury..i explained this to the manager and quickly realized that a small family owned business had zero hospitality. She didn't care at all and said she would only allow me to checkout early if my spouse dies...we could leave early but would still have to pay for that night even though they would rebook it and get another $100+ from someone else. She had zero empathy, sympathy and was extremely rude. She didn't even offer any compensation for all of the issues that I explained to her on the phone. If you want quiet, go elsewhere. You can hear everything and all the kids running up and down the balcony and every time we walked in our room we heard the floor thumping which means the people under us definitely heard it as well. This place is definitely a great find if you find yourself near Rapid City, Sturgis, and/or Mount Rushmore! Clean, convenient location, the staff were super friendly and very professional...they definitely made us feel very welcome, especially considering we were two families converging for the night from Missouri and Idaho respectively. The beds were super comfortable, plenty of hot water for showers, and a full kitchen...the room we had was basically a decent sized apartment for a really great deal! The ONLY thing that caught my attention was that you could see into/out of the bedroom through the bricks of the fireplace. Otherwise, I have no complaints and don't feel that's enough to knock off a star! If we're going to converge in South Dakota for family meet-ups again in the future, we are definitely going to do our best to stay here again! Stayed one night with the family while on a road trip. The staff was friendly and the prices very reasonable. We stayed in a family bunk room which was clean, quiet, and well maintained although an older building. The continental breakfast was typical bread and cereal, no protein at all, but no big surprise. read more

This is an amazing place to stay!! Large, clean rooms, that are comfortable at an incredible price. the location is ideal to explore Custer St park, Mt Rushmore, the black hills & the bad lands. The hospitality was above and beyond all expectations! We were here during the 2021 blizzard & the hosts made sure all walkways & parking lots were cleared. We stayed in a two queen bed and kitchen room. It was cost effective, included a very basic continental breakfast, and the grounds have a lot to offer. Gas grills, fire pits, playground, ect. The location is good for Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, and Rapid City. read more

This little place is a great find. The rooms are a little small but still comfortable for our family of 4. It's very clean and the lodge staff is very friendly. I highly recommend it for the budget savvy family. The lodge is open late so playing games over coffee and cocoa was an added bonus. The only negative is that part of the rooms are across the highway from the lodge so we had to drive over and breakfast is just continental. read more

Seeing other reviews, we had high expectations about this place. We had booked a room, said to have a full kitchen. However, upon arival after a seven hour journey, we were greeted with a miniature room that barely fit two beds. It had no kitchen either. When going back and asking the lady who had given us our keys if we could have a full kitchen room, (after showing her our receipt) she called her manager. The granted response was shocking, as she said her manager stated, "you can leave, 'without penalty'". They stated nothing else could be done, and heavily emphasized "without penalty". Just spent four days in SD and found this wonderful place to stay. Pleasant, clean, within driving distance of everything. We spent one night in a cabin and two in the lodge. Out of the two I would recommend the cabin room First then the lodge room. Either way it's a beautiful place to stay. read more

The staff is super friendly. The hotel is clean and well kept. The kitchen in our room was well stocked. The hotel was close enough to ride into Sturgis and have fun but far enough away that we weren't in the middle of all the action all the time. It's close to a lot of attractions and fantastic rides. Met a bunch of fantastic bikes that were also staying there. Had a great time and would stay there again! read more
