Walls between rooms are thin. I could hear the TV next door even though I was wearing earplugs and had a pillow over my head. Room and bathroom was small. Bed was very noisy. Whenever you happen to be in that wonderful town of Blowing Rock , NC and need a quaint little, eclectic place to stay---well, here you are. Every July, I go to Blowing Rock, mainly for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. For years, I have stayed here and will continue to do so. Large coffee pot in the morning, fire pit in the evenings, easy walk (one block) to downtown and the many shops and restaurants of Blowing Rock. The rooms are comfortable, as are the cabins if you want a bit more seclusion. Not exactly cheap (and thus why they are not at 5 stars), but a really good place to spend the night. read more

We stayed there for two nights this week in the two bedroom river cabin. Hint: the pictures they show you aren't accurate. Only the first picture is correct. Not sure what the other two are. The cabins aren't near the motel portion of the property. They are about 2 miles away just off 321. The good: they are cute and reasonably priced for the area. They have a fire pit area and are right off a stream. Only 3 cabins so not a lot of property traffic. Nice property if you have kids. The bad: we had cabin #3 nearest 321 and the highway noise was loud especially during the day. They are decent but kind of run down. The bathroom is VERY small for two bedrooms and the fan didn't help with the humidity. Three window a/c units so it was loud when they were on but it did drown out the highway noise. We would probably stay there again but would try for a cabin at the main property to be closer to town or to one of the cabins farther away from Highway 321 read more

We really enjoyed the Mountainaire Inn in Blowing Rock, NC. The location is great, just a very short walk to the downtown area. The room was clean and the staff were wonderful. It is a quaint motel with a ton of charm. It was absolutely perfect for our long weekend getaway. I would definitely stay there again. read more

Just returned from an amazing 3 night stay at Cabin #5! Absolutely everything was perfect. We arrived to find the place in immaculate condition and the location was ideal - set back from Main Street for privacy but with excellent views of the surrounding locale and of course the ability to walk everywhere! The inside of the cabin was simply lovely--including a beautiful jacuzzi tub in the main living area, comfortable king size bed and kitchen that was just the right size for making our daily breakfasts. The lobby offered great hot coffee and tea as well as individual packages of ice. Debbie is a kind and gracious host. We can't wait to return in late August for another 6 nights at this Blowing Rock gem. read more

I booked this room at the last minute and wasn't sure how we would like it. We loved it!!! You couldn't ask for a better location. We walked down Main Street for shopping and dining. The staff was friendly and helpful with dining recommendations. All of which were exceptional. The room was very clean and met all of our needs. Such a cute place to stay. We will be back! read more

Stayed here for the second time this year. This time in the cabins on the river. So lovely! The attention to decor and everything you need to feel cozy, down to the pre-made coffee packs for the coffee maker. Lots of pillows and blankets and everything we needed in the kitchen to cook meals. We will return with family members and in the spring. read more

I took my wife to Blowing Rock to celebrate her birthday and our anniversary. We were extremely pleased that we stayed at Mountainaire cabins. We chose the Sweetheart cabin #4 and found it to be immaculate and adorable; our expectations were pleasantly exceeded. We especially enjoyed the back porch, specifically the privacy, the rocking chairs, and the babbling brook. The owners were very nice and accommodating of any need we had. A short walk to everything. What a gem! We will certainly return in the future. read more

My boyfriend and I spent four nights at this resort this past weekend. We had originally booked three nights and we decided about a week before we left to extend our stay an additional night. He emailed back and forth with the inn keeper and although the cabin we were staying in was booked already for the fourth night we decided to say in a less expensive room in the inn and emailed her to make that 4th night reservation. When we arrived she did not have the reservation booked and did not have a room at the rate she quoted us available. She did have the most expensive cabin they have available for that night. We decided to still stay there, but she did not offer us any discount even though it was proven by email that she forgot to book our room for us for the last night stay. To top it off, one morning we got up every early and went on a fly fishing trip. I forgot my Invisalign trays on my nightstand. When we returned, they were gone. The cleaning staff through them out. Again the inn keeper did noting to try and resolve the problem. Saying the staff didn't see them and did not throw them out, then had the nerve to ask why I didn't put them in a case. I will acknowledge I should not have left them out, but it was a mistake during the morning rush to get out the door. The owners/inn keepers had multiple opportunities to try and do something to ease our dissatisfaction and they chose to do nothing. We will not ever return to this establishment as they do not care about their guests experience. The rooms were clean and as advertised but when you or your staff makes a mistake you should attempt to make good on your errors. read more

We are driving the blue ridge parkway over a few days and decided to stop in Blowing Rock. I chose The Mountainaire Inn after reading reviews online and knowing that we didn't want to get far off the parkway and stay in a chain motel. It seemed like it defeated the purpose of our trip somehow. We could not be happier with our choice. The motel is just off the main drag of Blowing Rock and easy to find. The young man at the desk waited for us when we called to say we would be checking in late. Our room is extremely clean, the shower and the bed are wonderful and the grounds are clean and pretty. There are baskets of flowers along the outsides of the rooms and a fire pit near the small office. There is ice, tea, coffee and hot cocoa available all the time and fresh coffee at 6:30 am or earlier if you need it. You can request wine or beer glasses if you have bought some to drink around the fire, and you can borrow a blanket if you'd like to sit outside. There is a wonderful binder filled with history of the area and also a nightlight in the bathroom. They obviously take pride in their place and really value their guests. They are full tonight as it is prime leaf season, but we still were greeted kindly and offered a 'thanks for staying with us' when we got home from dinner tonight. Also there looks to be a coffee shop next door and a Mexican restaurant across the street. After a busy day on the Blue Ridge Parkway we had a great dinner about a half mile away at Twigs restaurant. read more

My son and his had a great stay. We stayed in a queen double room. Very clean. The beds are super comfortable! The room is pretty big. The bathroom is also large and has plenty of room to store things. The breakfast offered each morning has been delicious. Scrambled eggs, grits, sausage, biscuits and gravy. Stayed here with a group of college girlfriends and had a wonderful time. Owners were kind and helpful. Returned the following year and had a completely different experience. While my friends and I were in the living room talking The staff came in to service our rooms. My purse was beside my bed and had 100.00 cash just inside After they left. I grabbed My purse to walk to town. All of my cash was missing. I reported it to the owner and she was extremely rude. I filed a police report, knowing I would never get my money back. But to make sure people know. If anything goes wrong on your visit. They will not Believe you and treat you like your the problem. I looked at all the available cabins on their website and chose to rent the Apple Cabin based on the photos and description a few days before Christmas in 2015 when we had family in town for a little overnight trip to the mountains. After we received the key from the office we were expecting to drive up a mountain to a log cabin, it's nothing but a hill directly off the main road. Mountainview is a joke compared to other mountainview cabins I have stayed at before. To add to the disappointment, when we entered our cabin we immediately realized the indoor photos on their website did not match the cabin at all. The indoor photos for the Apple Cabin on their website is pictures of a completely different cabin! The cabin is as small as a studio apartment. When we confronted the office about booking the cabin off of the photos and being given a completely different cabin they told us they were booked up and we would be unable to switch to the cabin the photos were from, which surprisingly ended up being a more expensive cabin! In order for them to do anything for us they required us to send management the links to their own website of the photos and the description of the Apple Cabin! I thought this was completely dumb considering it's their own website so they should be able to pull it up themselves, but I did as they asked! I sent the links to two different email addresses multiple times, but every time the lady at the front desk said management did not receive my emails or the link was broken! I then decided to take screen shots of every picture of the Apple Cabin and the description from their website and attached them to an email along with the actual photos I took of the inside of the cabin we were given that clearly did not match! No surprise, they couldn't open those attachments either! In the end, we were not even offered a discount for the inconvenience because management could never open the information in the emails and they were never in the office for me to show them face to face the photos of the cabin and the errors on their website via my cell phone. All they did was offer us a discount if we ever wanted to stay there again! Like I seriously would want to stay there again after all that!?! After our stay I periodically checked their website for about 6 months to see if they ever fixed their errors, no surprise they never did any time I had checked! I am convinced they were fully aware of the error, but were using it in their favor by showing photos of a more expensive cabin under the less expensive, Apple Cabin's page in order to get more bookings, especially after making us go in circles with them! I did however, just check their website again almost 2 years later and the correct photos of the Apple Cabin are now on their website. Maybe they got tired of too many people complaining about being scammed the same way too?!? read more

We didn't want to leave! The character and warmth of a bed and breakfast with the privacy and convenience of a hotel. My sister and I traveled to Blowing Rock from Charlotte to teach an essential oil class and one of our local members recommended the Mountainaire. When you drive through Blowing Rock all the inns look similar but the Mountainaire is anything but ordinary. I phoned them to inform them we would be arriving past checkin time and they were so sweet. Instead of just hiding a key somewhere they stayed late to wait for us to arrive. We really felt welcome and appreciated. Our room was very warm and cozy. We travel a lot and are so used to the giant cookie cutter hotel rooms. This room felt like home. The space was used efficiently and everything was clearly well planned. It was obvious the owner Debbie put a lot of thought into the room. The dresser was solid wood and appeared to be hand painted. The bathroom was spotless, no mold, no cracks, no stray hairs in the corners and the window created a lot of natural light, perfect for applying makeup. The sheets and towels were so clean I didn't get freaked out at all. The pillows even had those awesome allergen protectors on them (something I thought only I used). The room was also very quiet. I am a light sleeper and was concerned the street traffic would wake me but I slept like a baby. My back didn't hurt, my neck didn't hurt, it was all so amazing! In the morning when we bid our farewells to Debbie and Donna it felt like we were leaving a friends' house. Are there better places to stay in Blowing Rock...I don't know about that but what I do know is that the Mountainaire is the only place I'll ever stay. read more

We just stayed at the Mountainaire for the second time, and it only gets better! It's one of the few places that will book for one night, and the fella and I were just in town to go for a hike and have dinner, but we didn't feel like driving back to Charlotte. This time, our room (#4 in the inn, not a cabin) had a king bed - bigger than the queen on our first stay - and even better layout with more space. There's free wi-fi, plenty of plugs for charging your devices, shampoo and soap, a comfy king-sized bed, and small flat-screen TV with satellite. It's everything you need for an easy stay within walking distance to just about anywhere in Blowing Rock you need to go! read more

After a 2 hour ride to Blowing Rock, we decided to spend the night and see more of this charming village after a good night's rest. Chosing the Mountainaire Inn was an excellent choice. We stayed in a cabin that had all the charm one would expect in this part of the Blue Ridge area. And the view was spectacular. A unique experience staying in a cabin and being right downtown Blowing rock. The innkeepers were extremely kind and accommodating. In the evenings, people were sitting in chairs around the fire pit drinking wine and enjoying conversation. They're also rocking chairs in front of the cabins. Great restaurants shops and bars, all within walking distance. Even the hiking trails are close and easily accessible from the inn. read more

We stayed at this motel December 26th though December 28th. Rate $165.00 per night. No microwave, no refrigerator, no coffee pot in the rooms. When we entered the room smelled like mold. Parking lot iced up very dangerous to walk to room. Pillows had blood on them. Housekeeping awful left dirty towels in the middle of floor. They gave us a one day refund. Housekeeping rude. The owner took up for housekeeping. Very noisy. Not good parking for trucks. Dirty, smelly place. read more

Perfect getaway in downtown Blowing Rock! We came up for a last minute getaway and stayed in cabin 3. The kids loved the loft, all was clean and well stocked, and we felt it was a much better deal than a similarly priced chain hotel with two queens in Boone and much closer to activity in Blowing Rock. The cabin came with wifi, firewood and a starter log, was stocked with coffee, dishes, pots and pans, and most importantly, a wine opener! All the fun of your own cabin without the drive to restaurants! The proprietors were lovely and lit a fire in the fire pit, provided a selection of movies and games, and excellent dinner and lunch recommendations. We weren't looking for a luxury experience, but it was much more B and B than we expected as opposed to motel. We will be back!! read more

Instead, the desk clerk (owner?) told us that she was "sorry to be negative, but this would not be the place for us" and she was absolutely correct! We were looking for a charming place that embraced the friendly attitude we always enjoy during our multiple yearly trips to Blowing Rock.
