Felt like a big nightclub with a circular bar in the middle. Drinks were great but the canapés were appalling. Some canapés you would've thought would be hot were served cold. Wtf indeed! For those thinking of booking Carriageworks as a party venue, be careful with the catering or you will end up with a drunken bunch of unhappy guests!

Apparently it's one of the biggest days of the racing calendar - a must see for over the top fashionista sistas. The highest heels and craziest fascinators you will ever see. Nowhere else do people wear these kinds of clothes - not weddings, not cocktail parties, not proms - it's crazy! The ladies go totally over the top to show off their 'racy fashion looks' (pun intended!). And the guys don't look so shabby either. Dashing in their suits and ties! So many beautiful people - it's a people watchers paradise. If you've never been to the horse races then you are missing out on a unique cultural event. So it was the Golden Slipper yesterday and I was there performing as Zelda Ukulele Performer at the Figtree Bar (which is right near the entrance of the train station) and what a fun vibe - the bar was packed all day. The 5-Seeds Promo gals and I were working up a great vibe and as the shadows of the day got longer the punters got braver and at one stage the whole bar joined in with me for a great old ukulele singalong to some of the more iconic songs such as 'The Gambler', 'Eye of the Tiger', 'Jolene', Baby (Justin Bieber's hit) and the anthem for the Y Generation 'What's Up!'. Lots of fun and you really get to meet some lovely friendly people - young and old from all over Sydney - it's a top day. So next time Golden Slipper Day rolls around jump on a train and join in the fun. You'll love this all-day party atmosphere.

It's a relatively old course, but on a nice, sunny day, you're not really bothered by that, as you spend most of the day outside. My last experience there was for our football end-of-season get together, and although it was busy, it wasn't crowded, so it made for a good, casual afternoon. From Marrickville road there is a sign, seemingly in front of a railway bridge. Okay, it is in front of the railway bridge but refers to the club on the other side of the train line. Drive under the bridge and past all the soccer fields, then stick to the right until you see something that looks like a bowling club or cluster of sheds. Go in the first door, turn left down the corridor and take the first door on the right. No, it's not a mafia den, it is one of Sydney's best kept secrets. Was. This is a traditional Portuguese restaurant where most of the patrons are Portuguese. First good sign. Secondly, the menu is in Portuguese and thirdly, the waiter speaks English as a second language (well he did that day, but there are sometimes wait staff with perfect English - and perfect Portuguese I assume - to cater for everyone). Going here with my dad is a little amusing, he orders "the Portuguese bottle of wine with dust/dirt on the bottle" and he now can say his favourite dishes in the correct way. My recommendation is to share a dish of pork and vongole (clams) which comes with diced potatoes, pickled vegetables and a generous amount of garlic. Also good is the Portuguese steak served with round flat chips and an egg on top. All the food is a bit salty so don't add any extra! Seafood specials are also a must, with a piece of grilled fish cooked to perfection. Drown your potatoes in some oil and vinegar and your tastebuds will thank you. All meals are served with some olives and bread to start, but don't fill up before the main event. Portions are large and if you are unfamiliar with the territory then get some dishes to share, so you can taste as many menu items as possible. Booking advisable Fri/Sat nights, and sometimes weekend lunches as it's a favourite with family functions.

Yes, it's obviously quite old but to be honest by the end of the day I'm quite smitten. Located in Sydney's busy west, even if you're a local you'll need to fight your way through the traffic to get there but once into the course itself there is a certain country feel to this small metropolitan track. Not as big as Rosehill or Randwick you feel up close and personal with the horses as they race by whilst you try locate the number on your beasts saddle cloth. If you're like me, it's usually one of the ones towards the end. There are enough food options to suffice, there are obviously enough places to place a bet and there is a nice relaxed feel to this day and place. Sure it's old and run down but I've enjoyed my day out at 'The Farm'. I'll be back!

I saw the production, Stranger I Am, which was really unique in the sense that the audience was standing on the stage for the entire production. It was very abstract and unlike anything I've ever seen. In terms of the theatre, I would definitely see something here if you have the chance. The location is nice and they have heaps of set design work in the lobby for you to take a look at. Some sculptures are really really interesting. Cool place, just wish it wasn't so far away.

Cinema food is the same you'd get anywhere else naturally, I'm a big choc top kind of guy like 2 - 3 at a time lol.. dont go to the movies everyday luckily ;)!! but suprisingly you couldn't buy a coffee at the cinema.. seems pretty standard these days haha, they had a great cafe just outside the entrance for my caffeine fix :). The cinema location is great, if your there during the daytime you could spend a whole day there with Costco and Anaconda down the road and then the rest of adventure and other shops in the cinema complex and for the night time you have the 24 hour maccers and Krispys on the other side of the road for those tasty treats before or after yohr movie :) This place will always be a favorite cause of the location, the comfortablefactor and cheap movie tickets :)!!

There were three people behind the counter and about 20-30 people waiting in queue. First red flag was that there weren't enough employees, or employees doing their job so shitty that they managed to create a queue of people on a Sunday. They were out of large popcorn. Let me repeat: THEY WERE "OUT" OF LARGE POPCORN. HOW. DAMN well order the larger cardboard popcorn boxes. Maybe learn how to run a business? Everyone tells me that a theatres major source of income is the food and drink yet they can't even offer what people want? Larger flipping boxes?!? They were also out of choc tops??? I'm only a little mad. The lobby was literally falling apart. The carpet was matted, the tiled floors were sticky as if they hadn't been cleaned in eons. The theater had also not been cleaned. There was trash still in the seats and we had to claw out way to sit down. SURE - the tickets are cheap but in no way is it a worthwhile experience.
