I self referred myself to Move Better after nearly 2 months of almost debilitating pain resulting from a neck injury. Getting the initial appointment set up was easy and I was a little worried about cost since I do not currently have insurance, but I found the cost to be manageable and they we're happy to work out a payment plan if needed. Prior to contacting Move Better, I had gone to four appointments with a chiropractor...and had noticed that I would show up, he would ask minimal questions, spend 15 min trying to crack my neck and back and then charge me nearly $100. Move Better actually helped me to "move better" Everyone that I interacted with was super friendly and it felt like they really cared when asking "How are you doing?". At my first appointment I met my therapist, Alan Barb. During that initial visit he asked questions and took notes, looked at my range of motion, and did a great job of answering my questions. After that first hour it was clear that it was going to be well worth the money. After each hour long visit I would be given exercises to work on at home. Alan patiently listened to my attempts to describe various sensations, aches, pains...I know it might sound like a simple thing to say "I feel pain in my neck/shoulder". However my issues affected a nerve that gave me a whole range of weird pain that was hard to really localize....even for me! It was pretty impressive for Alan to take all of the vague descriptions I had given him and then be able to press on a spot near my shoulder blade and find one of the places that hurt me the most. He did not have to press around and ask "Here?......how about here?" He knew. After four appointments or so I found myself feeling better than I had since my injury. I had progressed from spending most of my day in agony. To being able to slowly get back up to speed at my job. Not to mention sleeping for more than a few hours at a time! I was also able to reduce my intake of NSAIDs which I had been taking 800-1000mg of Advil every 8 hours like clockwork...down to 800mg once a day ..in the morning after waking up. After hitting the self referal limit of 30 days I feel 85-90% better... I have occasional rough days, but I can say without a doubt that choosing Move Better Physical Therapy was crucial to feeling the way I feel today. And I will definitely self-refer again in 30 days to continue progressing towards feeling as close to "normal" as I can. read more

I had a sport injury and Move Better was recommended as THE PLACE to go. I thought I would give it a shot to see if the hype was true. My therapist was Tom Stith. What I believed to be my problem turned out it wasn't. Tom did a complete evaluation and discovered that my ankle wasn't the issue but rather my hip was. After a couple of months of therapy I am now back up and running the soccer field and racing around the track. If it hadn't been for Tom I would be sidelined and miserable. Move Better believes in hands on with a legitimate doctor of PT working with you the full time and they don't believe in assistant therapists like the competitors do. The facility is spotless, the staff is friendly and it was like a home away from home as everyone to include the interns treat you like family. Cindy C. I highly recommend Rodney Madagan and the team at Move Better Physical Therapy. He and the clinicians are excellent not only in their rehabilitative techniques and advice, but also in their care and concern for their clients. I went to him after having been told at another therapy site that I would likely not recover much more than the 30% use of my dominant hand after an injury from a fall, but Rodney and the staff members were encouraging from the first visit and continued to be so throughout therapy so that I gained almost full use of my hand again. The office staff is also kind, helpful and organized. I am so grateful we have such caring people in our community. Having to go to therapy can be a frightening experience if one hasn't encountered it previously, but this group greets clients with expertise, hope, care and encouragement and even some humor which, of course, always helps. read more

My experience at Move Better was amazing! I worked with Heather Walton for over a month to treat a torn calf muscle. I came into the office with a lot of tension and stress about how much pain I was in and she quickly reassured me. I came in on two crutches and by the end of the first session she gave me the confidence and skills to come out on only one! By the end of three sessions, I was in a lot less pain and could full on walk without limping! I was always greeted with a smile when I walked into Move Better, the experience overall was making an uncomfortable/painful situation into one that I looked forward to (Heather is just super sweet and makes an hour of awkward stretching really fun!). Without a doubt, I would recommend Move Better to anyone that is in need of physical therapy! My experience at Move Better was excellent and could not have been better. I worked with Maddy Bosek for roughly 3+ weeks to treat a "severe sprain" ankle injury and several lingering knee issues from running. Everything was really smooth, from scheduling appointments to excellent facilities and training programs. Without hesitation, I would *strongly* recommend working with Maddy for any treatment you are working on. She is incredibly knowledgeable and knows her stuff inside-out. She is also a great listener and could take what I would describe about various pain points and explain clearly what is happening with my muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc. Then she designed a great training program that got me from limping back to running within 3 weeks. Could not be more enthusiastic about recommending her, especially if you are looking to recover from running and other athletic ailments. read more

This business has used their list of patient emails several times to send out emails completely unrelated to their service. After asking to be removed from their list, an apology email received from the "Practice Manager" referenced the grace of God (and I AM a churchgoer, but a Physical Therapy business has no reason to get into the middle of THAT fray), in addition to our current President's disgraceful slogan indicating that this country needs to be made great again. This country is ALREADY great - no thanks to the current president, it goes without saying. The whole point is, a business should NOT be using personal patient emails for any reason that is unrelated to their reason for the relationship with the patient. That is evidence that they do NOT deserve our trust in our privacy. read more

I can't say enough good things about Move Better and the team of great people who work there. After having total shoulder replacement, I knew I'd have to spend a lot of time working to rebuild my new bionic shoulder. I honestly don't think I'd be where I am today without Rodney and the great team at Move Better. Not that the work is easy or that the Therapists don't keep you challenged, but it really feels like a team effort. Move Better has helped me on a few occasions. I am a soccer player/track runner and needed some assistance with my legs. I have worked both with Tom and Heather and they are both phenomenal. I came away from therapy the first time able to get back into the game. It's nice knowing that a therapy clinic has therapists willing to work with you one on one. My friends at school go to another clinic that uses PT assistants and that for me, is not ideal. The staff at Move Better are professional, skilled, and make me feel that I matter. Just completed physical therapy following extensive shoulder surgery at Move Better. Once again, there program was exactly what was needed! Heather developed an extensive PT program for me and maintained contact with my Dr. She pushed me, picked me up when I was down, kept me on course, and celebrated with me as I completed my program. I should mention there were other times I had PT at MB for other parts of the body....all with the same success! Have had PT at 3 other facilities in Charlottesville and this is the BEST! Wonderful experience ! I had physical therapy somewhere else in cville and it was just aweful. Move better really helped me get my life back on track. The staff was so sweet and understanding. One time I was running late (obviously don't do that regularly), and I called in and they helped me re-schedule for the same day. I was stressed out and they made me feel relaxed. And my therapist Heather was just AWESOME ! She makes you feel like you are family. From the manipulations to the strengthening exercises, she did a really good job. I cannot say enough positive things about Move Better and especially Rodney. The pinched nerve in my neck was absolutely killing me, couldn't sit without pain, couldn't raise my right hand or arm without pain and could only sleep on one side at night. Between the hot packs before therapy, the exercises and the massage (which I think is called fascia release) I became pain free. Mind you it didn't happen over night. Great place for therapy! I had a wonderful experience at Move Better. I was hesitant to start therapy and a little scared. Everyone, from the front office to the owner, made me feel welcome and comfortable. With time and consistently attending my appointments, I really started to feel better. I had total knee replacement in February my doctor sent me to move better to rehab it. Rodney did a great job and had me bending it to 125 degrees in a matter of just a few weeks. This is my second time I have needed their services in 2015 I was sent there for spinal stenosis and Tom was fabulous.
