First, on the day before my mortgage was scheduled to close, I was told that my tax return for the current year would be required. This despite Legacy Mutual already having my tax returns for the previous two years, in addition to a plethora of other financial records. I asked why and failed to get an intelligible answer even from their manager. Yet she was adamant that this was "their policy". A wonderful thing to learn at the last minute. What was the only way to solve this problem? You guessed it, file my tax return - even when I don't owe a penny of tax and am not ready to file because of missing tax documents. This means I had the pleasure of refiling my taxes later when I received all my docs. Second, after delaying my closing date to the following week, I drove out to meet the notary Legacy Mutual arranged. Upon arriving at the meeting place, I was informed that they had messed up the paperwork I was supposed to sign. The paperwork would need to be reprinted. My trip was entirely wasted and I had to meet a second notary. Last-second surprises and making the customer repeat his / her effort seem to be a trend here. Finally, no attempt was made to explain how I should pay my mortgage monthly. I had to inquire about this myself a week before my first payment date. No apologies were made for any of the above.

I have been a Colonial customer for years due in no small part to the fact that they service their own mortgages so your loan won't be sold around in investment packages constantly with you not knowing who owns the note to your home from year to year. They have been consistent with my escrow account to where adjustments were not needed as well. My main reason for this review though is that we just closed on buying a new home and used Colonial again. Things were getting shaky as to whether we were going to close on our home on time and we felt like our home deal might fall through if our closing got delayed. I contacted the company vice president John Farrell and things started flying faster than could ever have been expected by my wife and I. After a few whirlwind days we ended up closing on time and are very excited to be moving into our dream home. I don't think that if we were doing business with one of the "Too Big to Fail" banks that we could have received this kind of assistance and we would definitely recommend going with Colonial for anyone's mortgage needs.

I had been in process of refinancing my house with another lender, but it wasn't working out as expected and taking too long, so I cancelled that loan. I was a Colonial customer - had my current mortgage with them, but my earlier experience with the loan officer assigned to me in an Austin office left a lot to be desired. I'm glad I took a chance and called the main # in Fort Worth. Pat took all the info over the phone, locked in my rate that day, had the papers sent to my home that week. She set up the closing at the nearest Colonial location to my office, where Susan Mills (the title agent) did a great job of completing all the paperwork with me over my lunch hour. The entire process, from the first phone call to the closing, took 24 days. Everything went so smoothly, and I attribute that to Pat's expertise and knowledge. I have been through several home mortgages and refinances with other properties in the past, and this was the absolute best experience I have had to date. No matter where you live in Texas, if you need a loan officer, I would recommend giving Pat a call - you can find her phone # on the Colonial Mortgage website. All loan officers are not "created equal" - Pat is exceptional!!!

The first transaction we had enough of a decent experience we wanted to use them to buy our "dream home". The second time we used them, it was a fiasco that almost lost us that home. I was able to avoid the deal falling through by locating and distributing our retirement funds with significant tax consequences. We were simply not supported in the buy. No one was focused on getting us through. My real estate agent was very frustrated and asked us to not use them again. We won't. It was much too stressful!

It wasn't a fast process, not sure why, we did sit for 45 minutes as it appeared the lady was doing our paperwork as well as close of day paperwork. I'd expected this process to be maybe 20 minutes, not almost an hour. Location is easy to access, fairly new, it's by NAS Fort Worth, lots of military around there. The service we received was decent, but slowed. The cost of the transfer was $5 more than our other banks, but they were the only ones that could do it after 4 pm. We got it done, took a while, but it was completed and we left happy we didn't have to travel around with so much cash in our bag.

Property loss department finally admitted to the error and sent me a corrected check that was valid. But refuses to reimburse me for the returned check fees. Recognizes the fee, understands the fee, agrees that the fee was due to errors made by them but refuses to reimburse or help me to understand why. I've talked to 14 staff members including supervisors and managers. I've logged over 11 hours of phone time concerning this issue.

And unfortunately they are not the most caring of friendly in my opinion. So today had to handle a very important situation. I decided to try this branch and see if there was any difference in the bank's customer service. And absolutely yes! Not one but three ppl approached me to help me resolve my problem.
