Gayle and I recently returned to Movies 12 to see "Lucy". The movie was a fun to watch sci-fi romp that made absolutely no sense plot wise. In other words, it was a perfect summer escape movie that required no thought (other than why it got such good reviews). We paid a total of $13 for a discount matinee plus the concession "tax". The Theater itself remains in good shape (including comfortable seats and nice people who work here), and there were several other patrons watching the movie with us. That included a group of local lads, who kept on yacking, until Gayle nicely asked them to moderate their noise. I'm never quite sure what to do in those situations.... read more

This place was recently remodeled with HEATED RECLINING seats! Seats are assigned, so come early to get your favorite spot! Clean. Family friendly. Friendly staff. Plenty of parking. Marcydiner tantrum scale of 5/5-no screaming kids. Prices are average local theater prices. We've been here a dozen times or so in the last month. read more

I love me a free movie! Came here on a Friday afternoon, parking was packed, food line was fast and overall cleanliness wasn't too shabby. The workers did seem more interested in talking amongst themselves tho. read more

We have gone to this movie theater for years. Primarily because it was the only one in town. However, there is another theater at North Grand now so we attend both. The recliners are comfy. As with any concession stand food, it is pricey. Gone are the arcade games but in it's place is a bar. For the first time, we had to sit in the front row. Not at all comfortable to the eyes or the neck. Buy your tickets online or get there early to avoid the front rows. read more

SMELL BURNT POPCORN THEATRE! Although, they have updated their seats to luxury lounger seats but a NOT STADIUM set. This place needs good ventilation. Also, some more attending staffs. It's annoying that you have to wait 20mins or more for any concessions order because one one person doing everything most especially on a Sunday afternoon! Manager- please order you guys a cardboard multiple cup holders because every time we go there and always bring our friends and family and holding multiple drinks with just 2 hands doesn't really work! read more

Ames' sole movie theater is nearly a relic, but is still standing strong! Discount days are Tuesdays and Sundays if memory serves. Good sized theaters and overpriced snacks, but relatively fair pricing for the tickets. It's where we go to support specific box office films. Does the town decent enough. read more

For the most part I've had a great experience every time I've been here. The last time I went was to see Superbad and the entire theater smelled like urine when we walked in and continued to smell throughout the movie. I don't know if during a previous showing multiple people laughed so hard they peed their pants or what but it was gross. read more

I can't give this theater a 2 simply because they don't have Hot Tamales. Adding Hot Tamales would be an instant 2. I could possibly go to a 3 if they could figure out how to make their customers wait in fewer lines, and move the lines through faster. I've never seen a more disorganized system. You can either wait in line outside to buy a ticket, then wait in one of MAYBE two lines for concessions, or you can go directly to one of the concession lines, then wait in an inside line to buy your tickets. First of all, whether they have 1 or 2 concession lines open, it's never enough. The lines take forever, too, even when they're short. There are 4 or 5 registers there, but I've never seen more than 2 open. And there's only 1 printer for receipts, and it's at the opposite end of the registers that they use. So, when we went to see Skyfall, I thought we would skip one of the lines and buy our tickets in advance using Fandango and the iPhones Passbook --- note that it costs $1.25 per ticket for them to not have to print you a ticket, something is not right there. Well, we waited in the concession line, then went to the ticket taker. And their scanner wasn't working, so he sent us back to wait in line to print our tickets at the kiosk. And we still paid $2.50 extra for the "convenience". I mean, it's a multiplex. The screens are fine, the sound systems are decent (though they could turn it up a little bit), and the seats are relatively comfortable. The bathrooms are inconvenient, but clean. Oh, and they don't have real butter. They only offer "butter-flavored topping". You know what that is? It's a chemical made in a lab to look and taste like melted butter. Just give me some dang butter. read more

Waiting line for popcorn sucks my movie starts in 2 min I've been in line 15 min people in line are talking about how slow it always is here. You can't get out of line with your food for the t shirt stands in the way. I'm not sure why this place has such low reviews, its a pretty decent movie theater. It's the only one in Ames that shows new movies but with 12 screens there's a pretty good variety. It's $8 for an evening movie now, a lot higher than the $5 it was when I was in high school, but still much cheaper than...pretty much anywhere else. Plus, like all theaters they have special matinee and first show of the day prices. The seats are very comfortable. read more

Wow! I really like the updates to Movies 12. The recliner seating is very comfortable and spacious.

This theater is fine, except their seats are TERRIBLE. Have been going to this theater for years, but they recently replaced all of their seating. Sat down to watch Mad Max and had to leave before the movie even began, as we were both in considerable pain. Asked for our money back, and were promptly given it, which was nice. They did not, however, ask for the reason that we asked for our money back, which leads me to believe that they know exactly why we were complaining and are NOT interested in fixing this problem. In addition we were not able to get a refund on the considerable amount of money we spent on snacks. I can only give this theater a single star until they go back to their original seats because right now it is absolutely out of the question that we will ever return. This is very sad for us because as we said earlier we have been coming to this theater for many years. However it is not worth the intense, almost religious amount of pain that we're subjected to once strapped into these monstrosities. It's weird because I thought this was a theater but it's more like a torture chamber. What once was a man's cave is now more like a man's grave. The one redeeming quality of this Cinemark location is that it has some great toilets - roughly 150 soft, misshapen, spine-curling toilets in every theater. $8.50 for the most luxurious dump I've ever taken was well worth it. Tonight my 20-year old friend who is a grown man was denied a ticket for an R-rated movie because he did not have his billfold with him. I find it hard to give a star for nothing. read more

You don't really have much of an option. If you want to see a movie, you have to go here....and the armrest don't go up, which kinda kills the date. read more
