As we went to sit inside we found a table and like most little businesses we where greeted with a cheery hello. Normally I just order fish and chips but on this menu I could choose which fish I wanted. Of course being northern I had to have a bit of "wet" with it, and pored my peas over my fish. As I did this a voice in the corner of the room stated to the rest of the diners that I must be northern as only northern folk pore peas over there fish, apparently... I confirmed with the gentleman that I was a northerner and he said that the local fish caught down here is second best to fish up north which made me proud. Anyway, I digress... The fish was indeed very nice, not too oily and the chips where spot on! The menu just doesn't include fish, there's sausages, pies and much much more! Staff where more than helpful and friendly! This well priced small business is a little gem in Fakenham and I will return again when I'm next down.

They operate a system in the shop where you go either end of the counter depending on what you are ordering. This makes it very efficient and you get very fast food. You can also order over the phone and then go in to collect it. The food is second to none and the prices are exceptional. I like the fact that the staff are very helpful and will even account for the size of the fish that they have in at the time, ie. You often get 2 pieces for the price of 1 if they are small. I enjoy getting a take away from here, usually once a month and find now that it is the only fish and chip shop that I visit.

The ingredients are local, the menu is seasonal and the daily specials are well considered, fresh and all-round delightful. Though I don't drink, I understand the gin (and tonic) selection to be incredible. Whilst definitely not the cheapest place to eat locally, it is more than reasonable with the fresh, local ingredients and the skill obviously put into making them. Most recently I visited and between three of us sampled (read: devoured) some cod cheek tempura, scallops with an avocado purée, sesame tempura prawns, fish & chips and a double-serving of seafood chowder. These were mainly daily specials and so I had requested earlier in the day that they didn't run out of chowder for me. It honestly is the best thing ever. Saying that - as much as I adore chowder - the cod cheeks are amongst the best dishes I have ever tasted. The food is seasoned perfectly. However, the starter of halibut was overcooked and we hardly recognised it as halibut and we did not really feel relaxed. Fishtastic's combined a traditional fish and chip shop (counter, typical menu range) with modern practices - cardboard boxes instead of waxed paper and sustainability info. On the wall is helpful screen showing where their current fish stock was sourced! I ordered Haddock out of habit as I prefer to have my fish cooked to order, but their Cod was sustainable too. The fish was cooked perfectly, chips were kept hot without going soggy (probably down to the box) and a can of Cream Soda washed it all down a treat.
