I live a couple of blocks from this 24-hour store, and it is my go to place for fresh produce: Fruits, vegetables, as well as chocolate baklava. They have the best prices for fruits and veggies, such as $1 Mangoes, Blackberries, Blueberries, Pears, Pineapples, Peaches, and so much more. All the vegetables are in the $1-4 range... Everything from tofu, to colorful bell peppers, Romaine lettuce, corn on the cob, mushroom, eggplant, and so on. There are always yummy sweet treats on the check out counter and my favorite one is chocolate baklava (which is also rare to find). This is absolutely delectable. Perfectly flaky thin layers of chocolate phyllo dough filled with honey and nuts. Other than what I listed, I find some of the other items (bread, crackers, chips, ice cream, drinks, etc) to be a little on the pricy side. The folks working here are always pleasant, friendly, and kind. This place is a wonderful neighborhood spot for basic grocery needs, especially for produce. read more

I feel like a Pokemon trainer, going to every single location of the Korean Mr. [Fruit] empire. They should give me badges. Anyway, aside from the super cheap produce that's reasonably fresh, I usually go to these stores to check out their beer selection, which is usually a crapshoot. Mr. Melon disappointingly doesn't sell beer, while Mr. Mango (my favorite store of them all) has the best selection I've seen outside of a specialty craft beer shop. Mr. Coco is somewhere in the middle. They sell beer, and have some interesting craft stuff, but the selection is still limited due to space. Speaking of space, Mr. Coco is pretty tiny, so don't expect them to carry everything. Mr Coco is a small grocer with the cheapest produce in the area. It is a bit out of the way for me, but worth it if I need to make a fruit salad or have the need to go vegetarian for the week and can't make my way to Chinatown. The produce selection is wide. This past weekend, I picked up blueberries and strawberries, pineapple, red and yellow peppers, $0.50 bunches of fresh spinach, grapes, string beans - and did I mention its February and it was all cheaper than the next three supermarkets I visited? While the markets down the street charge $5 for a flat of strawberries, Mr Coco was charging $1.50. I will note that produce quality can be a little hit or miss. Especially with the berries out front, you do have to check for bruising, leaks, and mold. If you're the type to eat everything quickly, this isn't an issue, but if you shop once a week or forget about produce, you may be a little disappointed. The quality of the fruit inside tends to be better. The store inside is well lit, its easy to find help if you need it, and there are plenty of grocery foods in the back like cereals and frozen meals, nuts, juices, and snacks. It smells like coffee by the register - they also have fresh pastries to make a grab and go breakfast. Getting in line may be a little bit complicated because its a bit crowded by the door, but get be nice to everyone. read more

It's clean, has lots of different life necessities (including the more deluxe, expensive items), and even includes a small, well-priced produce area. I really wanted to give Mr Coco 5 stars because a place in NYC that sell produce that cheaply probably deserves it. The quality of the produce is better than the average corner market and the prices are comparable to Chinatown markets*. The selection is not amazing but has all the staples and some seasonal items. So while you're not going to find Jerusalem Artichokes and organic free-trade strawberries picked by profit sharing farmers, you will be able to get all the ingredients you'll need for your beef stew (except for the beef, maybe). So why not the 5 stars? 1. The line. THE LIIIIIINE. It's long and eternal. You'll see people buying 2 plantains who have been waiting in line long enough to grow cobwebs. Please hire an efficiency expert. 2. Mishandling of produce. Now that you've made it to the front of the line, that delicately chosen avocado you gently placed in your basket will now be slammed onto the counter next to the aggressively placed asparagus. *tear* 3. Non produce prices. These are insanely high. I tried to buy a pound of butter (who doesn't need a pound of butter) and it was $8. I found it for $3 somewhere else. A 1/2 gallon of milk is $3. $2 at another bodega. Look, Mr. Coco, I get it, I'm sure you're not getting rich and opening other Mr. Fruit offshoots because of the low low prices you charge on your fantastic produce so I'll definitely still go here to buy my produce and when I'm dying for milk or just too lazy to make 2 stops, I'll likely still buy other things. Lets put it this way...when friends come to visit me in my hood (thank god no one has really figured out this is the best place to live) they leave with a couple of bags from Mr. Coco. Thats right. But alas, they all end up leaving with their own bags of produce to take home with them. I live down the street from Mr. C's And I will be the first to admit that they do have good prices for fruits and veggies. But once you get them home they start to rot within a day or 2. The organic fruits and veggies I buy from other places in the area hold up twice as long. I was told that the reason the can sell stuff so cheap is because they buy stuff that is about to go bad. Also I find the staff( stockers) very rude and had one run me over with his hand truck and acted like a total douche after he hit me and did not even say sorry. I realized that I've become a "real" New Yorker because I just thought to myself the other day, "well if the corner store doesn't have it, I probably don't really need it." Good thing Mr. Coco is my corner store! The store is consistently well stocked with lots of fresh items and the most reasonably priced produce in the area, but more importantly I have experienced a much higher level of customer service there then in almost any other bodega I've frequented. For example, I recently went there in kind of a time crunch and was hoping to find butternut squash that was pre-peeled and diced. They only had whole squash on the Shelves, but when I mentioned what I was looking for, one of the stockists took the squash in back and peeled and diced for me! Those mofos are not easy to prepare. I was surprised by and grateful for that level of service. My only complaint is that, because the limited shelf space is devoted to "fancy" and organic products, they don't really have some of the kitchen staples that I would love to be able to grab quickly, like mainstream cereal brands, etc. Call me crazy, but I think more people desire Cheerios than pink Himalayan salt. read more

The reason there are often lines here is that they have Super Cheap Produce. I mean like $2 blueberries and $1 strawberries. You can usually go by and find 2-3 things that are so cheap it is shocking. I do try to eat my strawberries quickly because they don't have a long shelf life. But, it is worth it if you eat your fruits and veggies quickly. They also have a great array of cookies and things like pita and lentil chips. The chocolate dipped macaroons are heavenly. Ok guys we really gotta get excited about this place. It is by far the best thing that has happened to me in this neighborhood. Fresh vegetables 24 hours a day. I, WE dear neighbors, have NO REASON not to eat healthy now that Mr. Coco is here. Before my excuse for eating cereal for dinner was that Associated was closed, but now? Greens, nightly; fruit daily. The selection really is decent (pitas and vitamins and crackers and house cleaning solutions oh my!) and the prices are outrageous how low they tend to be - $1.00 for strawberries! $1.00 for a lb of kale! The price does not mean the quality is sacrificed either. It is a mystery to me how things are priced so low, but Mr. Coco blows all the other groceries on this street completely out of the water in terms of quality, consistency, value, and cleanliness. As a resident of Clinton Hill, I can vouch for the great qualities of the tiny Korean owned produce/grocery/convenience store that is Mr. Coco. It's the perfect place for people who don't cook large meals since they have all of your Trader Joe-esque green foods such as granolas, greek yogurt, natural sausages, soy milk, jams, spreads, etc. In contrast, they also have fresh produce, many discounted outside. They also sell vitamins and supplements. The only thing missing is fresh meat, which can easily be found at other nearby markets. They even sell sushi rolls! The prices are great for all of their products. You can spend $5 for a pack of strawberries, organic bananas, and a pound of granola, or just buy one top shelf jam. It's up to you. Finally, the greatest reason I come here over all of the other markets in the neighborhood: the variety. They stock a new item and have a new discounted item on sale every time I go. Lychee juice, coconut milk, giant California avocados, starfruit, pluots, $1 bell pepper bags, $1 for 3 oranges, winter sweet melon, and so on. My personality enjoys buying something new or cheap, so this works perfectly for me. It's more than just another Korean mart. It's a microcosm of high quality city supermarkets. With a name like Mr. Coco, I was expecting the owners to be adorned with lei's and addressing each other with "Brah." This was not to be. The owner is actually an adorable Korean man, and his employees were actually hot emaciated hipster girls who clearly enjoy the health food products that are sold in this tiny yet well-stocked stores. Or they are heroin addicts. The rumors are true: strawberries and blueberries are indeed one dollar. With prices this cheap, I may come back before July 4th so I can make one of those stars and stripes cakes featured in those supermarket check out magazines that also promise 100 pounds of weight loss from walking 5 minutes a day. They also have a myriad of health food and vegan friendly products, including the largest selection of faux cheese that I have ever seen. The prices for vegan-rella and Applegate Farms were a bit lower than at other health food stores. No bulk bin so I have to deduct one star. How a bitch gonna get her quinoa on the cheap?? Also the gluten free section is limited to one shelf. No products really stood out--just the general Mi-Del cookies (which are generally hard and ass-y tasting) and Nut Thins. For starters this place is getting a 5 because they were open during Hurricane Sandy!!! They didn't close! They were still operating per usual! 0_0 Besides that I love this store. They sell fresh inexpensive produce natural and organic included. There are a myriad of products in the store, rare seasonings and sauces., national and foreign food and snack brand items. Pricing for most of Mr. Coco's items are typically one dollars less than local or big box grocery stores. I usually purchase fruits, veggies, or snacks. I wish they had more poultry products to choose from. But I can always get my turkey bacon. Plus they accept credit/debit cards for items $5+. So we're good I'll travel TJs for chicken. I used to live across the street from them but moved away to Manhattan and still traveled back to Mr. Coco once or twice. I couldn't help myself I'm attached. But I'm back around the neighborhood and I've definitely made my over. Lastly, the staff are super friendly and sweet. One of the guys once remembered the snacks I like to buy. :-D No other borough has this great of grocery spot. I lived in Queens, BK, and Manhattan I don't believe I'll ever move to the Bronx. Believe the hype...Mr. Coco's is an awesome spot to get your produce. Prices are wallet friendly and you're bound to get some great deals, even before you walk into the door. You can get a ton of fresh veggies and fruits for a few bucks (sometimes even just a dollar!); bell peppers, squash, tomatoes, peeled garlic, and a whole lot more. They sell pretty much everything...eggs, cereals, chips, tons of fruits, soaps, vitamins, bread and I could keep going but won't so you peep for yourself. The only con for me is that they do not serve any meat (aside from some cold-cuts and sausages) and they don't sell beer there, so I usually have to walk a to a bodega just around the corner. But Mr. Coco's makes up for it by their prices and friendly staff. Again, their prices will probably throw you off as they're probably some of the lowest that I've seen in the BK or the city. And...they sell a good amount of Asian goods, saving me a trip to say, Chinatown or K-town. Mr. Coco's is a pretty decent walk for me, but for the deals I'm getting it's def worth it. read more

I love this place because it seems like they are ALWAYS open. Seriously, they might be 24/7. Its great for cheap produce but I suggest consuming it fast -- There have been times where I bought fruit or veggies that literally started turning bad the very next day. But that's the thing, you go here when you just need one pepper or one onion real quick to make whatever you are making for dinner. I've also had days where I went in and spent like 30 bucks on groceries to get me through the week because for such a small space, they have everything from english muffins, juice and coffee, to pasta sauce, veggies, frozen options, and chocolate. They also have a great selection of ice cream, beer, and all the typical bodega necessities like handsoap, toilet paper, paper towels, and batteries. They do have a credit card minimum, but who cares when they have everything you need? Avoid rush hour. Too many hipster commuters with special requests and arguing over already cheap prices. This place is an awesome hole-in-the-wall grocery/convenient store. First of all, that name is silly and super cute. This place honestly had me at the name, just so I could see what it was. And I was pleasantly surprised. A wide variety of fresh produce and a different sale every few days, this is the type of local stores that I sought after in the big city. This is where I go to satisfy my inner "Chopped Champion." I buy whatever veggies and fruits they have on sale (usually from 1-2$) and I make a meal out of it. The discounted produce is usually placed outside. I mean really... 1 dollar for a box of strawberries? Yes. Me want now. I was also surprised at the variety of the products inside. Why? --$1 awesome produce on the curb --everything I need to make delicious, cheap stir-fry, 1 block away --one time I literally filled up my bike helmet with an unreal amount of fruit and vegetable goodies, and uttered a very real "WHAT?!" when they told me it was only $4.10. --one time I let the cashier keep a penny of change, and he remembered and made me take an extra penny the next time I came in. --milk that actually lasts til its expiration date --Greek yogurt!! --cheaper tofu than anywhere else I've found in the neighborhood --$10 Brommer's soap on special this week (vs. $15 at Fairway or $13 at Associated) I hated on this place a little when it first opened, and took my boyfriend on the bougie tour of our new bougie (bourgie?) grocery where we can buy all our bougie necessities, mwaaa. There were a couple occassions when I forgot my wallet and they either let me pay them back later or held my groceries for me til I got back. They were so kind and patient.
