Mr. Stump (Richard) in Clarkston is a rare find. My yard has a downward grade towards the backyard where the stump and the debris from the fallen tree was located. Richard was in my backyard within hours of my phone call in the rain to assess the job and called me immediately gave me his quote which he assured me would be the lowest quote I would receive. He apologized and explained that and the ground was getting soft from the thaw and recommended that we wait for the ground to dry a bit so he doesn't damage the lawn. His competitors didn't call me until later that day or not at all and then wanted me to describe the job over the phone to save them gas money and said the estimate may change once they see the job and there quote was already more than Richards. They had no clue about the soft ground and the damage they would have done to my lawn with their heavy machinery. That night temperatures dropped below freezing and refroze the ground and the next morning I got a call from Richard asking if it would be OK to grind the stump on his way to another job providing the frozen ground would hold the wait of his machine. Not only did he grind the stump but he did extra work that his competitors wanted to charge extra to do and then he offered to help me move the fallen debris out of the backyard at no cost. This past April (2016), I had a 27 year old Locust tree cut down from my front lawn. I thought the company who removed the tree took out the roots, but much to our horror there were roots the size of trees in the ground. We were scheduled to re-landscape, but could not move forward with that project until these roots were removed. I called Mr. Stump (Richard), and let me say he was a God-send. He assured me that no matter what he could come out and take care of my root problem (I only gave him a days notice). When he arrived at my house, he realized the problem was bigger than we all thought it was. After some discussion, we came to an agreement, and Richard scoped the entire burm with his state of the art equipment (amazing), churning up wood chips from the depths below (who knew). He then leveled the ground before he left and cleaned up as well as he could (when wood chips fly). Had we hired someone else, or tried to do it ourselves we would have never searched to the depth needed to find all the hidden roots. We called Mr. Stump "Richard" on Saturday 10/12/2013 to remove 2 stumps. One from our yard and one from our neighbors yard. Richard not only answered his OWN business phone but assured me that he would be out to our property within a few hours.. A man true to his word and equally professional, not only did he arrive on time but proceeded to give us a MORE THAN FAIR quote Richard worked in a professional matter. He put up a fence around his work area, he checked all nearby surfaces for possible utility lines and he drove his equipment carefully as not to disturb to much of the surrounding property. We had waited over a year to have this stump removed from our property and we feel as if it could not have gone better. Richard was working on a neighbors property grinding up a giant 13' stump right next to their house and had a protective gate protecting the house, which impressed me. I stopped by and ask about having about 15-20 above ground roots ground down so that I could mow without the mower blades hitting the roots. Richard said he would stop by and take a look and contact me later that night. Sure to his work, later that night he contacted me and we agreed on a very reasonable price and he fit me in the next day! He spent over an hour, walking around the year with me, grinding the roots totally out. He took his time but worked quickly and put up a protective fence to prevent any flying wood chips hitting the house or flowers. Richard is very friendly and was a pleasure to work with. I would strongly recommend him and will use him again later this year for two stump removals in the fall. We highly recommend Mr. Stump... We had our tree cut down by a company. It was a package deal, which included stump removal. The problem was that we have had at least three different stump grinding companies come out to do the job, and they have all walked away from it due to the amount of the work versus the amount of money the tree company was willing to give the stump company. The tree stump was very large (an old Silver Maple), and the tree had a 12' by 20' area of thick surface roots. It was a monster of a job! Rich from Mr. Stump was an answer to our prayers! He knew we were in a jam and agreed to work with us to get the job done. He did a very thorough job and came back a second time as promised (and in a very timely manner!) to hit some small spots that were missed due to the massive amount of wood chips from this job. It went very well. Mr. Stump and his son did the work. Very professional and pleasant to deal with. They carefully checked for gas lines before starting which is something I did not anticipate but will require in future. their equipment seems to be first rate and was definitely up to the job. After I cleared away the saw dust and mulch around 2 former stumps, I found a little more of the root which I asked them to grind up. Very graciously, they moved their grinder in place and took care of it for me and assured me that they would return if I found anything else needed to be done. I am very satisfied with all of their work and would happily hire them again. In fact, they were so professional that I am more likely to call them right away if I have another stump rather than try to work on the stump myself. read more

I had a pretty unique and difficult situation with stumps that were situated pretty close to an old chain link fence. Mr. Stump, Richard, did an excellent job for us. He was careful in staying away from other plants as he ground stumps. He used a screen fencing to block wood chips that otherwise would have been thrown further and created a bigger mess to clean up. He was even able to pull a stump out which was above a sprinkler line rather than take the chance of damaging the line. On top of that he did the job at a very reasonable price.
