Double Bay has numerous cafes and places for lunch. Mrs Slippy is a relatively new addition and well worth a visit. Relaxed and charming atmosphere, great food and coffee. The courtyard is a nice place to eat/drink if the sun is out. Inside is cosy without being overcrowded. Staff are friendly and attentive (though not always if you are in the courtyard). Pizza's are a naughty but amazing treat. Their "Alaskan King Crab Lingeullini with Chili, Lemon et al." is a great lunch main - though wasn't 'chili enough' for people I was dining with. I went for a brunch option and had their "Croque Monsieur" which can be summed up as a posh toasted cheese & ham sandwich. I was a little disappointed with the portion size, but loved every bite of it. A perfectly cooked brioche with melted cheese, ham and a hint of french mustard was extremely moreish. I was happy to wash it down with a large coffee. I would recommend stopping by and trying Mrs Sippy if you are in the Double bay area, though consider the weather if you are going to be outside/in the courtyard. read more

I'm in two minds about this place. I discovered it as I was wandering through Double Bay and from the outside it looked really nice, so I decided to step in for a drink. At first I thought it was a cafe but it turned out to be a bar. However I ended up ordering a pot of tea (though probably should have had a beer). Anyway, the place is really nice, and the pot that came out was also pretty cool. However the thing that really put me off this place was the service. In fact it doesn't matter how nice a place is, bad customer service pretty much destorys it. However, I'm still willing to give it another shot if I ever happen to be down this way again. read more

You'd usually associate Double Bay with an air of nostalgia. It's dusty streets echo a stylish youth which has long since gone into remission. Already branding itself 'Double Bay's new local' Mrs Sippy is set to change this tone. With a scheme of white washed walls, wooden floors and stainless steel furniture it exudes fun, fresh and modern vibes. The main room hosts an open plan kitchen area so you can watch the tantalizing Mediterranean menu come to life while you kick back with a glass of wine (I'm all about immoderate lunches). If you feel like skipping food and heading straight for the cocktails there is an open courtyard area adjoining the restaurant that features its own bar and obligatory handsome barman. Overall I think Mrs Sippy is a solid spot. The layout and design of the place is awesome, the vibe is a good mix of casual eaters and lively drinkers and the food is relatively decent. Prices can be a little high for what you get, but it is double bay... I guess the only downside would be that although it's a sexy spot, it definitely knows a little too well how sexy it is. This in turn produces service that isn't entirely the friendliest and a crowd that can be a slight pretentious at times. In my mind, it's a good place to chill will a few friends and take in the crowd vs. a place to try and strike up a friendly convo with strangers. 3.5 rounded up to 4. read more

I went here with 'Lover' and his Mum and friends for a Sunday afternoon vino. I wanted to have a lovely outing and I am sure most people will, however the service was abominable and you just can't forgive that in this day and age. We received our pizza and ate it well before we sipped on our first drink! We were never asked if we wanted a glass of water. There's some really hot people walking around so if that's what you are there for then by all means. This is 'Double Bay' after all and I guess you have to expect the glances up and down as you walk to the bathroom. Ew! I just think there are many more places around that would appreciate my time and my $200 way more than here and I would feel better giving it to them. read more

We were strolling through double bay when we came across Mrs Sippy...get it? :) The place is hip, relaxed and has good music although at night it comes alive as one of the more trendy places in sydney, and most definitely double bay. We ordered a prosciutto/manchego sandwich which was absolutely delicious. Every ingredient fresh and of high quality including the bread, basil, aioli and cheese. For the drinks, we had a passion fruit mocktail (no alcohol) and a lychee one which were both incredible. The lychee was tangy and just the right amount of tart and the passion fruit was sweet and fresh. Both highly recommended. read more

David S's comment about service is right on the money. We chose Mrs Sippy based on $10 burgers on a Thurs. The venue is itself is spacious enough but it's got the restaurant part in the front and the bar in the back (rather than the other way around). We stepped in and the waitstaff looked almost startled that people had walked in and like they didn't know what to do next. One of them, presumably the manager (who looked about 19) asked if we were eating or drinking. We told him eating, and he just sort of gestured around to the whole place to sit down. We sit in the middle bit which is a bar area, then didn't know if we should order from the bar or if there was table service... So I had to go into the restaurant bit to ask and get menus, only to find out I had the wrong menus, those were actually the restaurant menus, the bar ones were different... Like, it's a bit annoying, but all is (usually) forgiven if the food is great. And it just wasn't. Three of us so we each got the three types of burgers on offer: chicken, beef and pork. Beef was prob the best - thick pattie cooked well. But the burgers were served on these little-ass wooden cutting boards that you would use to slice lemons or something. Annoying when the burgers seemed to be assembled with no thought for ease of eating. Burgs were unnecessarily sloppy, in a weird way... not sloppy because they were dripping with awesome toppings, sloppy because of poor construction. Pork was pork belly with some Asian flavours (my friend liked it) but mine as the fried chicken was the worst of the lot. The actual chicken was good but it wasn't like a single piece - more like popcorn chicken they stuck in a bun. Furthermore, there wasn't enough of the chicken - the last few mouthfuls of "burger" I had were of sauce and lettuce. Then they covered the chicken in a weird sweet sauce which again, tasted good, but was not advertised on the menu and was totally unexpected. It had way too much "chipotle aioli" which in reality was mayo with a bunch of lime juice, and whole big leaves of gem lettuce (rather than it being cut or something so that the lettuce actually fit onto the burger.) Couple that with the smallest little boards as plates and it just made for an off-putting experience. Fries ($4 for a weensy side bowl) were your standard shoestring jobbo and could have stood for a few more shakes of salt (would have done it myself, but there were no salt shakers to be seen.) Schooners of Lashes were $10. And I got a side of "croquettes" which were $4 each. I got 2 thinking for $4 they'd be a good size so we could share. I was wrong - small AF. The biggest ripoff ever. Ironically, they were extremely tasty - prob the best thing I ate that night. This place has potential but I wouldnt ever go back. No reason to. Overpriced drink, inconsistent food and shoddy, inexperienced service. Every person working there looked between 16-19. Fine, but train your staff, or get in a good manager. Kids were running the place. Try it out for yourself, but be warned. read more

Average drinks and overpriced food. We started our friends birthday celebrations here a couple of weeks back. The venue itself is a cool, airy, Ibiza-esc bar which were full of good looking people (including myself ). The cocktails were hit and miss with some tasting great (aperol spritz) and some basics tasting poor (espresso martini). After sampling a couple of cocktails we decided we needed a pizza to soak up some booze. I needed to sit down after seeing the price of a pretty small pizza...$25!! $25 for water flour cheese and tomato! We ordered the eggplant pizza and it had no taste but grease and oil. Others had different pizzas and enjoyed them so I think my choice was a poor one. Overall we had a good time but I think that was mostly down to the company I was keeping. I won't be rushing back to Mrs Sippy anytime soon. read more

I liked the name of this café, which was the main reason why I stopped here for a coffee. They have a great outside area - plenty of chairs and tables to bask in the Sydney sun. The service deserves a special mention - unlike most cafes where you have to go up to the counter to order, here we were shown to a table and a waiter came to us. Two lattes arrived quickly, with pretty patterns swirled into the froth. Our water glasses were always attentively refilled and, oh, did I mention, the waiters are hot! I didn't have anything to eat here, but judging by what other people were tucking in to, the food looks delicious. Verdant salads laden with grilled haloumi, zucchini, asparagus and beetroot. Crisp bottomed pizzas with prawn, prosciutto and pumpkin. I liked the look of their big sharing platters - marinated olives and crisp breads, charcuterie or calamari arranged delicately before being demolished. This is they type of restaurant where you could easily spend all day - starting with breakfast, digressing to coffee, slipping in to lunch, then dinner before winding up with a cocktail. Meet Mrs Sippy, she's one versatile lady. Cafe by day, sleek wine bar by night. Double Bay's latest mistress is breathing new life into Bay Street. Heading out for Friday night dinner/drinks with BFF, we find a pulsating establishment filled to the brim. We leave our number on the wait list and decide to pop across the street for a bevy, bracing for disappointment. To our delight, we've barely taken a sip before our number is up. Perched along a bar table in the front window, we've scored a top spot for people watching. A mix of locals, suits and fashionistas, this is where the beautiful people assemble. The interior is open plan, mod furniture with dim lighting and exposed brick. In the back, the open air courtyard and cocktail bar is pumping. We hit up the wine list, which I'm pleased to confirm is extensive! Dinner menu strictly Mod Oz. Tuna nicoise ($23) is fantastic - delicate, seared to perfection. Our waiter is on the ball - for a new wine bar on a busy Friday night, table service is a highlight. Be it dinner, coffee or cocktails Mrs Sippy has a lil something for everyone. read more

Walked up with 4 guys in shorts and collared shirts and 3 girls in dresses - we weren't allowed in. Yet, 2 guys in shorts and t-shirts were allowed in after us. It's not worth it to go to this place to see whether the assholes will let you go into their empty bar or not. We went across the street to the nicer bar instead. read more

I came here with a group of about 6 friends on a Friday night for drinks & we had a great time! Nice airy, open space, which was necessary - it was packed in there! Very young attractive crowd & a large enough drink selection for everyone. We were able to find a table in the back to sit at when we didn't want to squish in with the crowd anymore, which was nice. Definitely a cool bar option in Double Bay. read more

It's great to see Double Bay with a groovy destination bar/restaurant. I had a fun lunch there for Melbourne Cup this year. The food is pretty good and the atmosphere is fun. It's a good place to meet people as well. read more
