Once in a while all you want for dinner is a schnitzel. Una's on Victoria Rd is my place to go to for my schnitzel fix. I prefer it to Bavarian Beer Cafe and Lowenbrau, as it never disappoints. Una's can become quite busy in the evening so get here early, otherwise you can wait upstairs in the bar which serves a range of German beers. Once you get a table, you gotta order the deep fried camembert as a starter. Its a heart attack waiting to happen but it is so good and so worth the extra gym session. I usually share this with 2-3 friends as its pretty heavy. For my main I would order either a chicken or Jaegar schnitzel (essentially a Vienna/veal schnitzel with mushroom sauce), and I dare you to try and finish it. Its huge! For dessert there is no choice in my mind, gotta get the apple strudel. Delish! So if you love your schnitzel, make your way to Una's quick smart!

One of the best breakfasts I've had in a long time. Traveling from the US and this one hit the spot.

Yum!!! Yumm!!! So yum!! My mouth waters when I am here. The food is really well priced and the serves are massive. The jäger schnitzel is amazing. You will enter into a food coma after eating it. Things that annoy me about coming here, they will offer you a pretzel that you pay $4 for but won't tell you that you need to pay for it. Also Sunday surcharge, nothing on menu regarding this and indoor seating isn't good as there is no air con. Again so yummy!!!

The absolute prerequisite here is that you like - hopefully love - chicken schnitzel. It's not going to help you or your friends if you're looking for fries, fish, steak, sandwiches, pasta, kebabs, sushi. Get out. Just get out. You're the wrong kind of ilk for this place. These guys and gals want chicken schnitzel aficionados. And it's enough even if you pretend to like it. I have been here twice. Once on a date and once with my parents and both of those times were largely memorable for the outsized and finger-lickin' yummy fried foods. The chicken schnitzel is only ever going to be the star here so don't feel the need to dress up for the occasion (and please, certainly not in any national costume). The schnitzel doesn't look anything different than what you've seen before bar the size - they're big. And they don't come alone. Along with the chicken (you can get veal schnitzel instead if you really want to) you get rosti - a hash-browny potato dish - and cabbage salad. The chicken schnitzel and rosti are exactly the kind of food you're always looking to eat but usually don't do because perhaps you have some personal pride or a food controller in the form of a husband or wife. It's a very casual atmosphere which is also part of the appeal (and not particularly surprising when you factor in the host suburb, Darlinghurst, and the lowbrow-ness of the nearby area). If there are no spare tables when you arrive do as a German/Austrian/Swiss national would do and go upstairs for a drink while you wait for your name to be called.

I have been going this restaurant for at least 40 years on and off. And it was always the best. The atmosphere, the staff. Una's was known for their over generous sized Jaegar schnitzels, either chicken or veal. With Covid and all, I had not visited Una's for around 12 months. What's happened? Has it changed hands? I went their a few days ago and ordered some take away. Yes a Veal Jager Schnitzel. It cost $24.00 I took home my take out and opened the container. The whole serving was tiny and quite frankly unpalatable. I binned the contents and didn't think much of it, I just thought maybe they were having a bad day and forgot about it. A few days later I decided to go to my favourite Una's as I remember it and get some take out. I rang and made my order. I sort if joked which the female on the phone and told her about what I got last time. She was polite and said she would make sure it wasn't going to be the same experience. "She would make sure" So I went and picked my order up. Some how now it costs $25.40 , I sad nothing just paid and left. I arrived home and opened this pathetically presented poor excuse of a hearty meal. Have a look at the images of this miserable dried up crumbed piece of topside. Does it look anything like the Schitzels in their website? The images in the website is what you used to get. But not anymore. Not this crumbed mean serving of a tough peice of topside being palmed off as veal. Not to mention the miserable serving of the half cooked potato and tea spoon of coleslaw. The meat was tough like an old shoe, the potato was browned on the top and raw underneath, and the rest was was such a miserable amount its not worth mentioning. This too ended up in the garbage bin. Who ever is running Una's has ruined such a great place that has been a part of Sydney for as long as I can remember. Hope your profit margin is well worth it by being cheap and miserable. I noticed there was no Chef in the kitchen just a bunch of one menu trained fast food cooks. You have lost me and I am sure many others as on both occasions one on a Friday night the place was almost empty, when once Una's used to be pumping 7 days a week. I rate this destruction 1 out of ten. I would not recommend this restaurant in fear that people would think I have no taste buds. To the owners put some professional cooks back in the kitchen who understand food with a passion.

Dear fellow pescetarians If you are invited to Una's for a birthday party, may i suggest you eat before hand as this eatery is not designed for you. Una's is designed for meat eaters..... so when perusing the menu you'll find very little that will be suitable for you....that said, they do try....so if you have to join the group here's whats on offer: Fettuccine Provencale - Mushrooms, Tomatoes, Onions, Herbs 14.90 Vegetable Strudel with Portuguese sauce and Rösti 17.90 Fresh Salmon Fillet on Salad with Rösti 21.90 If none of these appeal. that perhaps you should try avoid a visit here.... I've been to Una's once for breakfast and it wasn't bad - their Vegetarian Breakfast - Mushrooms, Eggs, Rösti, Toast and Tomatoes was quite substantial....and their oily Rosti is super yum.... a great place to soak up your big Saturday night.... Not my first choice - but my friends seem to rate it....

Una's is German cuisine, renowned for their huge servings. Una's isn't a fine dining experience (if you can't tell from the waiter's lederhosen), but it is hearty food that will leave you feeling satisfied. The Jaeger Schnitzel is a favourite ($20) which is a massive veal or chicken schnitzel served with mushroom sauce, potato rosti and a side of cabbage. If you are on the smaller side, you could share this meal between two people. Recently Una's has started a home delivery service (yes all you hungover people, this is the best news you have heard all day!). They have partnered with Suppertime who will deliver you a Jager Schnizel for an extra $8.50.

Every now and then, you may have the urge to give the 2 finger salute to the Atkins diet, and going to a German restaurant is usually a pretty efficient way of doing that! To be exact, Una's is a German-Austrian-Swiss restaurant but basically, it's what you'd expect from German food. Now, some people like prompt service, however on this occasion, the prompt service bordered on rude. I know the German's are known for efficiency but you'd at least expect to be able to finish your starter before they brought your main course! Our starters of deepfried camembert ($8.90) and pea and ham soup ($7.50) were tasty, but we'd barely had time to swallow it before they were whisked away and replaced by our hefty mains. My pork knuckle with rosti and sauerkraut ($20.90) was ok but didn't blow me away, which was a shame because I'd been told it was a winner, but the pork turned out to be overly dry and the crackling was below par (you have to get that bit right at least!). The chicken schnitzel ($17.90), although big, wasn't anything particularly special. And much like the first course, they couldn't seem to get us out the door quick enough! It wasn't even that busy!

Vienna schnitzel

It doesn't get much more authentic then this German and Austrian restaurant in Darlinghurst from the hand paintings on your chair, the tiles on the floor and the schnitzels on your plate. The servings at this place are huge and delicious. Starters include dishes such as pea and ham soup, crumbed mushrooms and deep fried Camembert (yes deep fried Camembert). Prices are reasonable especially considering the size! You just can't go past the Vienna schnitzel with potato rosti and of course their schnapps.

Cockroach and schnitzel

Made an order on deliveroo and it arrived with a cooked cockroach. Appalling that this still happens in Sydney - this place should be immediately shut down.

Fuck yeh!! Jager schnitz
Marc P.

Love love love this joint! Tonight is my 1000th visit and a sydney ritual every time i'm in town. Order the Jager schintzel - chicken of course...waitresses all German and always authentic and friendly. No complaints from this Yelper...

Quick service and huge portions. This is comfort food at its best. The schnitzels can be shared between 2, just get some extra rosti!

Was charged for a drink I didn't want, the staff were rude and made my wife and I feel very unwelcome. Would not recommend.

Maggie's Potts Point - Dutch croquettes

We started with Dutch croquettes for an entree (appetizer). They were delicious, reminding us of bitterballin in the Netherlands last year. Then we each ordered a meal. If we'd realized how much food came with each meal, we'd have split just one. I ordered the jaegar schnitzel, chicken, and it came with two huge cutlets, nicely coated and crispy, with a mushroom sauce on top. There was also potatoes rossi, which is like hash browns, super crispy on top layer, and a small bowl of vinegary coleslaw. The veal medallions were tender and tasty. That meal came with the same potatoes and some barely cooked mixed veggies...yum! There was too much for us to be able to eat it all. Being Anzac Day, they add 10% to the bill. Our server/host was friendly and helpful. We're glad we got to eat there while in Sydney.

The inside is simple - clean, casual and overseen by a large portrait of Franz Josef. There are a few German beers on tap, or you can opt for wine. They have a really nice Gruner 1.0L bottle for just $28. That's a good deal. If you're coming here, you should probably get schnitzel because they're quite good. The mister had the jaeger version and I stuck with the classic - both arrived with 2 pieces overhanging the plate along with a generous amount of roesti potatoes. Definitely more than either of us could finish, and we were hungry. Service is very nice and it's a family friendly place too.

Located on arguably Newcastle's best eat out street, Darby Street and great to see it adding another dimension to the variety of restaurants already on offer. Tastefully Austrian with beer flags and music, but not at all in your face. We ordered 4 different beers and I absolutely loved the different glasses for each. Pretzels to start that were warm; perfectly browned and salted on the outside and soft on the inside. My friend also got the pretzel stick served with a Camembert spread. Menu wasn't too foreign with my friend opting for the schnitzel, my partner the farmers plate and pork knuckle for me. My partner didn't like the amount of fat in his meal but for better or worse I ate every last piece of fat and meat I could scavenge from the knuckle. It was amazing! Ending the night with apple schnapps that were too strong for me but friend loved them. Both of us going traditional with the apple strudel and the Viennese iced coffee for my partner. He said the coffee was very strong with my friend swooping in again to finish it off. We are a good team like that! The bill was expensive at over $200 but I feel it was worth it. Maybe a bit young and nervous but I'm sure after another few months she'll be great. The dinner menu looks well priced and delicious and so we'll definitely be back. A sophisticated take on lots of pork dishes. The back courtyard would be a nice place for an afternoon German beer, it looked like they had a selection on tap. Give this place a try next time you're on Darby St.

My partner and I chanced dinner without a reservation (with our backup burger plan already established), and I thought we'd be turned away but luckily it was just the two of us. This meant being confined to the window seats and ordering at the bar rather than table service but that's a small price to pay. People sitting on the other side were tastefully blocked by a partition of greenery which still allowed a degree of privacy. The place was abuzz with conversation, laughter and music so it was loud but not annoyingly so. After a good peruse over the menu; featuring schnitzels, pork knuckle and sausages to name a few, we settled on the Haus made pretzel, Texan schnitzel for my partner and the Bavarian tasting platter for me. We both LOVE warm pretzels with butter and these certainly did not disappoint. I could eat them all day! The schnitzel was a large portion my partner ultimately couldn't finish. The platter consisting of pork belly, sausages and schnitzel is a great introduction to the menu but also tested my stomach capacity. Washing it down with 500mls of Lowenbrau didn't help but it felt necessary for an authentic experience. Menu is on the expensive side but for an occasional splurge I don't think it will hurt. I certainly intend on returning and with a second one opening closer to home it has been made that much more tempting.
