Nothing wrong with this place. They got beer, wine, and liquor. The downside I immediately notice was how small the place was compared to other places. Tons of inventory and not enough space to display all of the different varieties. Some bottles have to be tilted to be able to fit on the shelf. The liqueur section is quite small and not a huge variety. Their largest liquor section is for whiskey and scotch. Probably smallest is rum or gin. I remember walking around and wondered if they had gin. They have the inventory and if you want the basics, they pretty much have it. The aisles are on the narrower side so do be careful. read more

This review could have easily be a 1 but I know the store doesn't deserve it. I had a clash with one of the cashiers who rang me up incorrectly then incorrectly return and again incorrectly charged me. Three different transactions. In trying to explain that I am owed money back and said unfortunately you don't know what you are doing. He yelled back. This morning I walked in and Jen and Jeff made it right. This store is amazing. I left with few dollars owed me and a token of their appreciation that I took the time to explain what happened. Thanks. This is the best wine/beer store in the Frederick/Montgomery Area, in my opinion. That have friendly, knowledgeable staff and a huge selection. This is definitely the place to come if you are having a party or looking for something special. My husband loves unique beers and his all time favorite is La Trappe Quadruple by a a brewery overseen my monks in the Netherlands. It was the first ever Quadruple beer and is on the heavier side, as quadruples go. We were thrilled to see Mt Airy Liquors actually carries it! We haven't been able to find it for years. What a fantastic place to acquire your tasty adult beverages. I am a beer guy and appreciate the vast selection of flavor, style, and brewery. They have local beers as well as those hard to find beers. I just picked up Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout that they just put on the sales floor. I was not sure I would make it today so I called and they held what I wanted. I believe hey run monthly deals attached to different breweries. If it's your brewery or you want to try something new, it's a great opportunity for you. They also have a generous streak as they have donated to my school beer basket for the past two years. TED the STORE MANAGER is simply THE MOST unprofessional person I HAVE EVER MET. Late this afternoon, I and a friend drove to the back of the shopping center sort of near MT AIRY LIQUORS....( which we did not even know it was at the time). We drove back there to throw less than half bucket of stale popcorn into the dumpster (the popcorn was from a movie a couple of days ago) because it was stinking up the car. We had decided that the little trash cans in the front of the stores which have these big wide slits in them would have gotten the popcorn all over the place on the ground. So, trying to be mindful of the mess it might make, we drove to the back to discard the stuff more appropriately, so we thought.. So, we pulled our car up to an open dumpster and deposited JUST the POPCORN, not even container, in the dumpster. 1) He shouts across the way from his steps," I wouldn't do that if I were you" 2) He whips out his cell phone and starts taking pictures of our licence plate and car. We could not really hear what else he was saying so we drove in a small circle over to him and said what? We asked why he took a picture of the car? He escalated the situation by shouting..."WHAT are you jealous? " (several times So we said, what store is yours? He said don't worry about it. And, we asked what are we doing wrong? The dumpster was NOT even his store's dumpster ( we had put the popcorn in a dumpster two stores down from Mt. Airy Liqours. We asked who the store manager was and drove to the front of the store. We parked and went into the store because one we did not like being rudely provoked by some stranger taking pictures of us & our car licence plate. By the way, it was broad day light. We asked the lady at the counter who the manager is and she said TED. So he comes up the aisle through the store. He says I AM the MANAGER. We said then we want to talk to your corporate office. He says I don't have to give you anything and you can just leave. We said no, we have every right to ask for the owner of this store. We were told to leave again and they were calling the police on us. I said, what the heck did we DO that warrants you calling the police? He said you dumped pop corn in the dumper. I said what like this? I lifted the cardboard bucket up in the air and tilted in front of his head. Then the counter clerk yells out loud....ThATS assult, call the police. Mind you, I NEVER touched him and he had a few specs of corn dust on his floor. I walked out of the store, while they proceeded to CALL the police and my friend stayed inside. HE said, I asked you to leave & I don't have to give you this card. My friend said, I am not leaving until you do & you can go ahead & call the police because I haven't done anything wrong. He finally gave her the owners business card and followed us outside to the front of the store He then said, WHAT ever happens inside the store professionally vs what I say outside the store are two different things There have been many people dumping stuff in the dumpsters. My friend said, Listen, it was just POPCORN! And, we did not even put any in YOUR STORE DUMPSTER. Then, I said, first of all your communication style, your threatening tone/manner & taking pictures of two older woman just dumping a little pop corn WAS SO UNPROFESSIONAL, accusatory & just down right disrespectful in how you approached the whole thing in the first place. AND then threatening us with the POLICE over popcorn? Really, it all was just absolutely ridiculously OVER THE TOP OCD control freakish in my humble opinion. NOT professional in my book in ANY WAY SHAPE or form. And, he seems to have this real need to feel important and go after a couple of older ladies who really just did'nt want to make a mess out front in the trash cans-by the curbs. OH, and another lady in the store behind my friend who WAS waiting to pay as a customer was asked if she needed help and she said NO I am just going to stand here so I don't get in trouble for touching ANYTHING. THE OWNER should think twice about having him as a store manager. I would hate to see him GO off for something REALLY serious! The guy needs some counseling on how to communicate with people better. WE WILL NEVER EVER SHOP at Mt. Airy LIQUORS simply for the WAY we were treated over something that wasn't EVEN IN THEIR STORE, NOR IN THEIR DUMPSTER. I will go down the street to ANITA's as I am SURE THEY will be kinder to prospective customers and the GAS station up the street on the corner said we could dump our left over popcorn ANYTIME in their dumpster if we ever had left overs from the movies in the FUTURE. Horrible experience. As a regular customer for years I was shocked by the way I was treated tonite. Was at the front door 6 minutes before the closing time of 8 and made a special trip across town to pick up an ordered keg. Explained this to the front door guy who would not let me in even after showing him the time and I was told that they went by the store clock?!?!? This is without a doubt, my favorite beer/wine/liquor store around! Not only do they have the widest selection of all three that I have ever seen, but they have several different kinds of events they hold every few weeks. Every once in awhile I will stop in and they will have some of the breweries or wineries holding a tasting of their current selections. Also, on certain holidays they will have a calligrapher come in to engrave any bottle you like. I did this for a few of my Christmas gifts to others, it is a perfect and unique idea! Just a few weeks ago they had another event where they had Tito's vodka hold a tasting, while at the same time they had a local dog rescue come in to help find their rescues find some good homes. What could be a better combo then tasting your favorite spirit while getting to pet and play with some cute doggies! I have shopped many times at Mt Airy Liquors with very pleasant results. However, today I approached the checkout area I had to listen to a worker complaining about his personal issues and then ask me if I was ready (sorry to interrupt his whining) . When I went to hand him my club card he informed me that they weren't using those at this time. He had no customer service skills what so ever and made me want to return everything. A wonderful store with great selection and staff. I drive 20 minutes out of my way for this place. The new store is now on the Walmart side of the shopping center with much more space and an even better selection. Very competitive pricing and even better when it is on sale. The staff is very knowledgeable and will even direct you to sale stuff in lieu of some of the other higher priced stuff. A great experience and pretty unique among liquor stores. read more

Great staff, surprisingly excellent selection and variety of products carried! The associates here are willing to go the extra mile for the customer in terms of service and search. For instance, I ordered a specific wine for a friends birthday (short notoice.) Although, they didn't carry the specific wine from a selective vendor, the staff made sure to order a case asap. Needless to say a "hard to find" wine arrived two days later just in time for the event. I've seen this place grow into a valued establishment over the years, from a small narrow selection to a vast expansive selection of taste.
