Mt. Baker... more like Baker Hill. The runs were short and lumpy. Our whole family came up for Christmas. It was fun but a lot smaller than what I'm used to. However, there were no lines for the chairlifts which was great. I was able to get 20 runs in an afternoon. I also can't believe they don't offer wifi in the lounge area and the fries were salty af in a small cup for $8. read more

So much to like about Mount Baker Ski Area. Tons of powder today and wide open areas which allow you to easily switch between piste and off-piste skiing. Mondays are great; never a lift line. My only gripe is about the plastic bowls for the salads. The base of the bowl is too narrow so when you try to cut up your salad, it tips over and flings salad on the floor. Again much to else to like. All the serving dishes and utensils are washable or compostable. There is a service charge for using a credit card so bring cash for lunch. read more

We came skiiing here partially because they still had kids lessons available. Most places do it by reservation and the other area mountains were full a few weeks out. The price here was the best as well and they do take walk-ups just in case. I liked that the road ends at the ski area so you don't get a lot of passers through. There is someone to help you park and getting our gear for the kids was easy and efficient. Both of their instructors were great and they got their bearings from the lesson. The lift ticket that comes with the lesson is only good for chair 2, but they weren't checking and our kids were ready for more. We spent the rest of the morning and afternoon cruising around everywhere and eating at the Raven Hut lodge, which had mainly soup, bowls, and some grab and go stuff. The line was really long and they had a separate beer only line. The kids really liked the house cats that reside all over this place. The snow was great and the runs well maintained. It was the perfect blend for em of openness and trees. The staff was super friendly and I would highly recommend this place for a family outing! read more

Mountaineer's Rant: This place is NOT on Mt Baker. It is on Mt Shuksan. It's a couple miles from the summit of Mt Shuksan. It's about 8 miles away from the summit of Mt Baker. That big, amazing peak you see from the parking lot(s)? That's Mt Shuksan, not Mt Baker. You CAN see Baker, the mountain, from here, but not as well as Shuksan. Why is it called Mt Baker Ski Resort? Maybe because "Baker" is some colonist name and easy for white dudes to pronounce while "Shuksan" is one of the only mountains that retains its original, native, name and is thus hard for said white dudes to pronounce? I don't know. Whew, now that I've gotten that out of my system: this is a wonderful place! I don't ski, so I know it is the starting point for two climbing routes on Mt Shuksan: Fisher Chimneys and The North Face. In the summer, you can also drive up to Artist's Point and get views nature that most people would have to hike several miles to attain! It's especially beautiful to photograph in the fall. I love this area, I wish I lived closer. read more

Conditions today (December 25) on Mt. Baker were abysmal, but you never would have known it from their highly inaccurate and very deceptive snow report web page. I can't blame Mt. Baker for bad weather, but I can blame them for failing to inform customers that large areas of the terrain they will "ski" on are just mud and sticks. Lots of rain was falling that will wash away more snow. They have a lot of nerve gouging customers for $82 bucks for a lift ticket when they know conditions are this bad. Total waste of nearly $400. Probably will not be going to Mt. Baker for the rest of this season because I don't enjoy being ripped off. read more

I am a little impartial to Mt. Baker as this is my "Home Mountain" and I will always have a special connection here. That being said, they really are the best. I have skiied at some of the best mountains in the country and nothing compared to the laid-back vibe of Mt. Baker. Whether you are a seasoned pro or don't even know how to put your boots on and spend the entire day on your bum, you can't have a bad day while enjoying the amazing views and good people at Baker. If you are newer, head up to the Heater Meadows Lodge to rent gear, sign up for lessons and grab a map. If not, get off the road at the lower lodge to avoid the crowds. If you are saving money, bring your own lunch, but if not, I recommend the bread bowls in the lodge after a chilly morning on the mountain. The cafeteria also sources great local beers from around Whatcom county to with by their open fireplaces in the lodge while drying out your gear. My last recommendation is for the seasoned pros, if you are new, stop here. Please. Alright, now that it is just us, please go up lift 1 past the halfway point and hike up to the cat tracks on a clear day. You will be sweating and cursing my name until you see the view. Just sit and enjoy it for a minute and you will know why I love this mountain so much. read more

A HIDDEN GEM! Those who know the area know how amazing Mt. Baker is. It's not a typical resort style type - a- place. The drive up the mountain alone is about 20 minutes or greater, but definitely worth it. We went up for President's Day weekend & it was amazing! I took a Level 1 & 2 snowboarding lesson & let me tell you, it was WORTH IT. With your lesson, around 40 some dollars, you get a lift ticket, the lesson AND rentals (what a deal!) The instructors are ALL very friendly and helpful, you can tell they enjoy what they are doing. My husband said Mt. Baker is up there with some of his other favorite places to snowboard. Lift tickets are a lot cheaper than some other resorts in WA. It's a very chill place thats absolutely gorgeous. We'll definitely be coming back again. Worth the flight from Hawaii. read more

extremely good skiing & snowboarding. Snowboard racing called Legendary Banked Slalom was established here 33 years ago. This place is the mother and father of all avid skiers or snowboarders! My favorite chair is #6, skiing runs Austin and the Canyon.. during storms they get deep pow pow baby! I was skiing here in February of 2018 and returned in February of 2019. The snow fall in this ski resort is epic and the base is deep, variety of terrain is great. I would not recomend this place for beginers, perhaps only from Heather Meadows area that is open on weekends only. most of the terrain here might be steep and ungroomed due to constant snowfall, that means freeriding diectly from the lifts is pretty normal and in fact makes this place unique. The food, beer and service also gets 5 stars - overall awesome.I should mention few things about getting to White Salmon Lodge, the road is being plowed and maintained but during a storm you may need to chain up - carry chains. People drive up with 2WD but it is smart to have at least AWD or 4WD and carry chains. There is no lodging at the end of the road, so be aware after hours everything will be closed and all staff is gone (by 4pm). Check out their website (www.mtbaker.us) before you head out, check on conditions, it is good to know the weather forecast for the day you go. I had ATT coverage at the White Salmon lodge, hovewer there is no signal anywhere else on the mountain or even on the road through Maple Falls or Glacier. no signal for about 15-20miles. so dont count on looking up things on your way there. you are welcome :-) read more

You could argue that there are year-round wonders to discover on the highway leading to Mt Baker AKA the Scenic Byway. You will find that the Summer and Fall months are the obvious best choice to drive here. Birdwatching, Waterfall finding, fishing, cozy diners, sunsets against the mountains, hiking, much to do here. The winter months create slick/impassible conditions further up towards Mt Baker if you don't have a tough vehicle. Check out Nooksack Falls or go Eagle-watching along the Skykomish river during Feb-March. I'm not the biggest fan of snow sports... but I came up here with a huge group for a weekend trip. And to my surprise, I liked Mt. Baker more than the other two that I've been to, Whistler Blackcomb and and Stevens Pass. It felt more spread out - the advanced lift was separated from the beginner/intermediate slopes. I liked that because I didn't feel as bad being bad at snowboarding. The lodge area could use a lot of work though... and the food too. They had pretty gross sandwiches when we had lunch there but their chili wasn't bad. The rental people were really nice too. But overall, I had an OK experience - almost gave up in the beginning but kept on trucking and eventually made it through the morning. read more

I was riding yesterday Monday Jan 13th for the first time this season after scraping together enough money to go, lets face it snowboarding is expensive. My day was cut short due to my pass being lost. I realize I am to blame for the zipper breaking and the pass falling off, this has been the first time I've lost a pass in ten years of snowboarding. I realized when the head of security (I forget his name, but will refer to him as Barney Fife from here on out) was checking tickets at chair 6 at about 1 o'clock after riding all morning. I told him It fell off showed him the broken zipper and then proceeded to pull out the receipt in my wallet. Deputy Fife had already decided I was lying, the receipt I showed him only made him more suspicious. He told me my day on the mountain was over and took me to the security office on a snowmobile, which he almost tipped along the way. We then headed to the ticket office to find the lady I purchased the ticket from, she was already done with her shift. At one point in explaining the purchase of the ticket he said "I'm not listening to you" How in the world is the truth of me buying a ticket going to come to light if Barney Fife immediately decides I'm lying to him and then won't listen to my explanation. They eventually reached out to the lady who sold me the ticket, thankfully she had miscounted my change and we counted together twice and I made a stupid joke about math being difficult otherwise I would've been forgettable. She eventually did get back to them and they reinstated my ticket and took me off of the watchlist. I was able to get out on the mountain about 3 o'clock. I had such a great day boarding in the morning, but have an issue with how I was treated for losing a ticket. I understand that it is Barneys Job to enforce justice on the mountain, this is not what I experienced. I was the victim of deputy Fifes gut instinct, which is obviously unreliable. I take issue with how he did his job. First off He split me up from my less experienced friends, having had two friends die of exposure last year on Mt.Baker, I find this unacceptable. He explicitly told them to get on the lift and that I was coming with him. Second what is the right way to prove a purchase if it is not a receipt? How does having a receipt make me more suspicious? Third, If as a resort you want to treat customers like criminals shouldn't you have a camera at the ticket window? I was in a bright yellow jacket with bright red pants I would've been really easy to spot as you could watch me purchase a ticket. I never did meet up with my friends again until the lifts were closed. I did see Barney Fife again at chair 6 and he said he was glad we could get the ticket situation sorted out. I never did receive an apology though. You need to figure out a better way of replacing lost passes, this must happen multiple times a week. If a receipt won't cut it, get cameras, or a stub that is linked to the ticket that you put in a different pocket, really anything other than Barney Fifes gut feelings on if your lying or not. read more

I love to Wake and Baker on most weekends through the winter. No where else get this much snow! They still have over 200" in April!!! The Snowboard resort averages over 650" a season! Still the cheapest place to ride in WA, not the largest or the highest, but by far the most snow of any resort anywhere. read more

I was able to finally purchase my ticket to Mt. Baker at 11:50 AM which is just 40 minutes away from the Half-Day rate. The ticket checker was unfriendly and didnt really seem to want to be there. I ended up having to rent boots and found out that it would then cost me 30 bucks. Now this did come with adjusting my skiis, but still the individual doing the adjusting was both stoned and seemed to hate skiiers. I have never been told "whatever" in a smart ass voice for more questions or comments before. The mountain conditions were pretty nasty that day and winds had topped 60 mph at the top. As a result the mountain closed at 1:30 with no "sorry" or "here, to help you come back have a discount" or anything like that. No, the mountain just closed. When speaking to the admin office, it was once again talking to one of the nastiest people I have ever talked to. No appologies, no nothing and the blame was set firmly on me for going there. I wont be returning. read more

I really enjoyed myself at this local's favorite ski resort. Actually saw several Canadians take advantage of this gem. With the exchange rate being as it is and so close to the border, many of the cars in the lot had Canadian plates. The snow conditions were not optimal as it hasn't snowed in a couple weeks and it was blue bird conditions (which was nice) but it was my first run though of the season and I enjoyed every minute of it. Half day is about 39 bucks incl. tax and a full day just about 8 bucks more. Funny though, the season passwards go from an upwards of $600 even though the day rate here is half of what you would find at most places in Colorado. The Colorado Pass that I had was less than $400 and included access to 5 mountains including Vail and Beaver Creek which cost at least $90/day. Still a good deal I guess if you live near Mt. Baker. Friendly staff and look forward to hitting up the mountian today. read more

I love seeing the majestic mountain from Vancouver, even though it reminds me of the night I feel I could've come close to death. Mt. Baker is an inhospitable place, especially when you arrive unprepared as we did. We were to meet a friend in a camper van there after going to Seattle. It was midnight by the time we got to the Park and assumed we'd find him or some hotels on top of the hill. We drove up the windy uncleared road in my 4x4, moving slow and losing traction on the steep roads. There was zero visibility but an hour later we could at least see there was no where to go once we hit the ski lodge. The only building there was closed tight for the night. We were tired and a bit freaked in the 2 foot dump of snow so we went to bang on a nearby door (about 10mins down the road) for help. The sign said Don't Even Think Of Knocking, No One Will Help You. (that's how I remember it anyway. We almost got stuck at that very driveway and would've considered sleeping in the truck if the weather wasn't so blistery. We gave it all we could and made it down the mountain in another hour, lucky to have not fallen over the side of the road, like one abandoned car we'd seen. We had missed our friend at the bottom, in his camper van beside the bar, where we should've known to check. Some cell service would've been nice to prevent the debacle in the first place. We even tried two hotels near the bar before we found him, banging on those doors too, but no one would answer. Next day we woke up exhausted and hit the mountain. Long lines for the lift ticket, but it was nice and cheap at $50. I didn't know my way around the hill and would get stuck on my board in flat parts with several feet of snow, losing my friends often. I really wanted to hit a run called The Canyon but it was closed in early season. Instead we went to a side track and as I caught up to my friends I saw their jaws dropped open. The run we were about to board down just got hit by an avalanche. If you want a nice safe resort experience this is not the place to go. read more

if you are the type that likes to wander around a ski village sporting your goggles and ski equipment, but not actually intending on skiing, this place is not for you. Mt Baker is a very minimalist ski area and for that reason it's my favourite place to board. There are no spa's, no shopping, no night clubs, just snow and a lot of it. This place is not often busy, long waits at the lift lines are rare sight. The mountain has an excellent variety of terrain that you don't have to go very far to get to. You won't find a snowboard park on the scale of whistler but you will find so good all mountain riding. Oh did I mention it's cheap? For Vancouverites it's on par with the price to Cypress but the two mountains do not even come close for comparison. Novice riders be warned, on a power day, and yes there are a lot of them, this ski hill is not for you. One word of advice, don't plan a trip here weeks in advance, the unfortunate part of baker is the weather. Only a couple degrees separates you from knee deep powder to one awful wet day on the hill. I would suggest checking the forecast the night before or the day of before you decide to head there. read more

Mt. Baker ROX for boarders! No high speed quads lifts or flashy gondolas, but lots of wide open runs with stunning views! Mt. Baker caters to the boarders with minimal double black diamonds and grooming that favors less moguls and steep grades. Surprisingly good full day rates: $51 will get you first tracks at 9:00 AM. with the last lift closing at 3:30 PM. SWEET! When Baker gets a good dump of snow, you can expect powder galore. One main lodge with good grub and even better...$4 for a brat and $2 for a MONSTER brownie! YUM. read more

For a snow year that's been on-and-off, Baker is still a solid bet. Watch the weather first, then head to the hill when it starts dumping to enjoy turns on a laid-back resort. The drive can be treacherous, but if you're equipped take your time and head up. Prices are slightly below average for tickets, rentals, and concessions. Sledding is my winter sport of choice! I came here with family to sled for free on Picture Lake near the Heather Meadows lodge and it was a blast. The views of nearby ridges blanketed with feet of snow were awesome, and from time to time the low clouds would part between us and Mt. Shuksan, revealing blue glaciers and rugged cliffs. The roads were plowed clear and free of ice, and the lake was solidly frozen with well-packed sled runs for both kids and some taller & steeper ones that gave us adults pause before heading down. If the snow is packed at the sledding area and you only have plastic sleds, be prepared for some cracks or full destruction of your sled, but that happens anywhere you're traveling down a steep solid track in a cheap plastic dish. It looked like the people with tubes were the most successful at this sled track. Since it is only sledding down the embankments surrounding the tiny Picture Lake, it isn't good for tobogganing...all runs are very short. read more

If this place wasn't so far from Seattle, this would be the go-to snowboarding place. The snow it much better and much more plentiful (and I hear it consistently is) than other places in WA. At $50 for a lift ticket and much better conditions, it was worth the 3hr drive from Seattle! It seems more like a mom-and-pops kind of place. The lines are much shorter, and areas less busy. There is a great variety of terrain (and there was quite a bit of uphill snowboarding...errr) and a nice half pipe. On a clear day, like yesterday, the mts. are gorgeous with Mt. Baker right there! One not of caution is that the drive is much more challenging with snow and ice that Steven's and Snoqualmie. Lots of narrow switchback getting up to the place. We saw one car taking the turns too fast and slid off the road and luckily came out alive. read more

Baker has some great stuff: -Best & cheapest mountain food I've ever had (no joke, the soup bread bowls are awesome and the salmon chowder is the best!) -A good crowd of locals. You're bound to run into somebody (or many somebodys) you know if you ride or ski here often. -The arm and the elbow on a good powder day. If you don't know, take an avalanche course and find somebody who does. -Great avalanche courses. Yep. You should take one. Or more. Also some not so awesome stuff: -Too expensive. Yep, I said it. It's too expensive! Really, what other mountain charges so much for a season pass for college kids? -"Too cool for school" attitude. There's a great aura of mystique about this place. And while it's good...it's not good enough to justify the Baker-can-do-no-wrong and the locals-are-always-right attitudes. -Awful conditions when it isn't a powder day. I'd really rather be almost anywhere else but Baker if it doesn't snow. Ice and mogul fields appear when and where you least expect. Yuck. It's altogether a mixed bag. I like it, but I'm not about to go out of my way to get back up there. read more

Fairly quick to get there from around Vancouver via the Sumas border.Lovely road on the US side, almost feels like Switzerland...You'll find snow there, so it is a good place to go on years where there isn't so much around Vancouver. In summer, there are many hiking opportunities but the ones that start from Artist Point present the advantage of instant views.Too bad the road leading to it usually is open for less than 2 months per year... read more

Beautiful beautiful beautiful! Exhilarating bliss flying down those groomed runs! The views here are incredibly lovely, with glaciers on the peaks and the surrounding mountain ranges. A great variety of intermediate runs, with many runs having trees to ski/board through. The area also hosts good snowshoeing and cross country ski trails, as well as several large ice climbing areas on the cliffs by chair 2. Friendly people work here, and the food at the lodges is pretty good. The one down note for me was the intermediate lesson I took to tune up my skiing. The lesson was supposed to be 1.5 hours long, but my instructor, Marion, only gave me an hour long lesson because I was the only person who had signed up for a lesson in that time slot. He taught me some important skills, but I still felt a bit ripped off. I had another good full time 1.5 hour lesson from Denny, which I enjoyed and which helped my form improve. read more

There is just this warm fuzzy place in my heart for resorts that are off the beaten path. Mt. Baker certainly fits the bill. On a clear day from Bellingham you can see the summit in all its snowy glory. After a brief 50 minute ride to the slopes you are treated to nice tree runs, little canyons, decent expert terrain and lots of intermediate. I spent some days up there this week and I think a crowd is considered the 8 people hanging out in the bar at the end of the day. All day passes for the growed ups are $32. Check the site for trail map and all else. You will see many riders here with Avy gear and tranceivers at the ready as there is numerous backcountry access points. A word of caution. Always check the Avy forecast and go with people who know. read more

Mannnn, fuggin' awesome. We spent a week here as a family doing hiking around the mountain from the top to the bottom and we went from snow to waterfalls to rivers... From sledding and snowball fights to playing around with rocks and making sand castles. Gorgeous Mountain, we had a beautiful time, really really pretty... The restaurants and delis nearby are all delicious and well-p. The park itself is very very well taken care of and I still can't believe that there is a huge ski resort in the middle of this National Park. Mount Baker is gorgeous and we look forward to returning many more times to explore all of this beautiful land, in the summer and the winter and otherwise. read more

I hadn't been on a snowboard for over 15 years, my last experience being at South Lake Tahoe, CA. This day trip to Mt Baker was part of a Christmas present to my GF; she wanted a ski lesson in the Pacific NW before she returns back to Scotland. So we drove into Mt Baker and was immediately struck by how small an operation this is. But small doesn't mean bad, and the service from every staff member was excellent. Young, knowledgeable and friendly staff made renting our gear so easy. I think it took less than ten minutes from registration to walking out properly geared up. We both signed up for group ski and snowboard lessons respectively. I was in a group of four, and the instructor (Levi) with ten years experience, guided us through the basics. He was patient and helpful, never taking us above our comfort level. I found myself remembering all the basics but it was still great to have him on hand for advice and encouragement. My GF scored and had an instructor all to herself, and she had a blast going all over the different runs. Rental of boots, binding, and board, plus 1.5 hour lesson, AND day pass cost about $47. You were limited to only one of the lifts, but for a basic day it was incredible good value. Food at Mt Baker consisted of burgers and fries type cafeteria. The fries were excellent and the bacon burger quickly demolished. Prices are reasonable too. Facilities were clean and tidy. We didn't explore much of the resort, as we were limited by our lift ticket to one lift, but there was plenty there to explore next time. The only downside was that there was no lighted runs so the resort is only open to 4pm. read more

Last time I went it was my first time on skis... I managed to fall, flip over, slid halfway down the slope and my pants got pushed to my thighs, causing me to go butt-first. When I finally stopped and got up, I realized that some woman had been videotaping her kids and I had managed to fall and slide in front of all of them. Good times! read more

My all-time favorite place to ski in Washington state. And I've skied pretty much everywhere, except around town during our 2008 winter. Why? Because people who ski/snowboard in the streets of Seattle look ridiculous. But I digress. Mt Baker truly is a natural wonder. It has a relatively small ski area but its natural beauty makes up for this. Also, it's really not that crowded if you decide to go up during a weekday, nothing like the passes near Seattle. And you know - this little volcano gets so much snow. In fact, world records have been broken in snowfallage in a single season. This was in 1999 --1,140 inches (95 feet or 2,896 cm)! In other words, it's a snowy world wonder. Lots of powder days and last year I was able to ski until late April. Also, I've met lots of hot Swedish men there. I'm not sure what it is with Mt. Baker and the Swedes. But hot damn. read more

Fun blue runs, quite wide open and fairly long. I bet they'd be epic on a powder day which today isn't one of those days. Spectacular views to enjoy on the lifts, especially since none of the lifts are high speed, and they take a long time to traverse the mountain. No long lift lines, and at 44 bucks all in for half a day, it's well worth the drive up at least once or twice during season. read more
