Mount Erie Park had well maintained trails when I visited on Thursday 15 June 2023. The sun was out, though not in full force, and the trees provided some shade and protection from the sun. Rays still made it through the canopy to the trails. When I arrived around 10:10 a.m., I found one parking spot so snatched it up. Just up from the parking lot was an informational pavilion with maps of the trail system. Even with taking a picture I did not quite make it to the top. The trails I traversed were marked by a trail number as opposed to a destination and/or distance marking approach. I did not find this entirely discouraging, however I had come for a drive to a viewpoint I had heard about and missed that entirely. I turned around after about 20 minutes of hiking and went back to my car. The portion of the hike I took up the mountain got my heart pounding. One of the highlights of my visit was a caterpillar I found dancing on a mushroom on a log along the side of one of the trails. read more

Beautiful area. Some really good climbing, a lot of mediocre climbing and some really bad climbing. I've done basically all the trails that access walls and they all suck, Erie wants to kill you with roses bushes, ticks and wet terraces. As a climber you have to embrace the adventure aspect. read more

Gorgeous views! Relatively easy hike. We were able to complete it with our 10-week, 2lb pup! Although she did get carried for the second half. The views are beautiful. There were a few groups sitting and enjoying the view rather than focusing on the hike. There is quite a bit of parking and it's free as well. read more

What a lovely little viewpoint of Fidalgo Bay, maybe the best one on Fidalgo Island! Not much to say aside from what has already been said, I support. When you drive up, be careful of all the hikers on the road, especially if there is traffic coming from the other side/ up or down. It is a beautiful drive and helps create the anticipation for the view. You can drive to the top, but if you would like to park somewhere else and hike a bit, there are a few areas off the road where you can park. The one right before the top has an informative post about a famous rock climber. Once you start walking and biking around, you will find some lovely views of Fidalgo Bay and the surroundings. Not breathtaking but very serene and calming. Take a venture to hike a bit more- you will find your favorite view that way! I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Anacortes or Fidalgo Island in general. Great way to see perspective and a nice landscape of what's around. Visit this place if you want to see a great view over looking part of Whidbey Island and Anna Cortes mountains. This area has many hiking trails but there is also a trail where you can drive up to the view point--it is a very steep drive with narrow roads! I wouldn't suggest taking a big caravan up there. read more

Though not famous for tourists, Mt. Erie is a local favorite and the view is amazing. If you go to Anacortes area, I highly suggest you to visit this hidden gem. Mt. Erie itself is hard to miss. It's the mountain with two tall antenna towers, and could be seen from road 20. The entrance, however, is from a local road Heart Lake Rd, which can be accessed from local road H Ave. The entrance is on the left of the road, and kind of easy to pass. So get ready so slow down and turn when you close the mountain. There is about two miles steep uphill drive. The road is pretty narrow so be aware of the incoming traffic. You can drive all the way to the top, which has a small parking lot, the facility for the antenna towers, and two viewpoints. In fact the road is pretty steep and long so unless you're really into fitness, you better drive. Viewpoint one is facing north east. You can access it from parking lot via some stairs to a great view of Fidalgo bay, islands and oil refinery factory. When I visited it back in 2013, the view was unobstructed. However with the tree growing, this year the view is blocked by the tops of some trees. I wonder if there is a way to trim them. Viewpoint two is by the antenna facility. It's kind of hidden so you have to pay attention. You don't want to miss this one, because the view is magnificent. The viewpoint faces south so you get a great view of the bay, ocean, and lots of islands. At any clear days, with the blue sky, deep blue name and dark green islands, the landscape is simply amazing. And did I mention that it's a popular rock climbing spot, too? read more

The view on top of Mt. Erie is amazing. When you get to the top there is a stairway leading out to a vantage point with a photograph labeling what you are seeing. This is neat, but it's not the best part! Make sure you walk around the rest of the perimeter to see the other vantage points as they are even more impressive! This is also a fun spot for kids. The children loved running up the huge rocks and climbing from spot to spot. If we had more time we would have used some of the hiking trails as well. After we drove down the mountain we were driving near Lake Campbell when I stopped the car and told the kids to look up at the mountain. They were amazed to see the cell tower (?) that they had just been standing next to appear so small from below the mountain. read more

We made our way to Mount Erie, the highest point on the island, by following the curvy 2 mile road up the mountain. Our view of Anacortes and Fidalgo Bay was obstructed by cloud cover and tall pines compounded by me failing to consult my notes about the location of a better viewing point near the antenna. We drove up here for sunset. It is about 20 minutes from the downtown area. There was plenty of parking along the road. There is a platform for viewing or you can go off the trail. It is a beautiful view of the water and mountains under the sunset. read more

Romantic drive , scenic views all the way up, and when you get to the top it is BREATHTAKINGLY beautiful. You can view the islands from here, and if you are lucky (which you will be in Seattle) it will rain. It's the most peaceful short drive up a mountain you will ever take. The floating clouds that you see from the top are mesmerizing. read more

One word: breathtaking. You wont believe how beautiful this is. I recommend the 2nd from last viewing point. The very last stop (with the biggest parking lot) is ok, its the one by the cell tower that is mind blowing - make sure you check that one out! I could stare off there all day. It feels like your in an airplane, or looking at a satellite image of the land. So cool. Anyways, check it out. Its a very short drive up, and you wont believe the view. Oh yeah, its free too! No entrance or park fee. =) read more

Beautiful view of the entire area, and the greatest part is that it can be hiked or you can drive right up to the top. We were short on time, so we drove up in a matter of minutes to see a breathtaking perspective. This is something you can't miss if you're in Anacortes. read more

We went there today with my toddlers. It was beautiful. It was a little challenging at parts of the trails with little ones but it was fun nevertheless. I personally like deception pass better for kids because of the beaches. My kids love the sand and all the driftwood etc. The view is better at Deception as well. At least you won't see the chimneys puffing smoke. read more

Excellent park with endless trails and views that will make your knees quiver slightly and awe you to distraction.
