Depending on who you ask, Garibaldi is the northernmost peak in the Cascade Range. We decided to give it a whirl during a 3-day weekend in January. The climb went well but, was long. You see, the road is not plowed in the winter, so we had to snowshoe up a road to get to the mountain proper and watch with jealousy as snow mobiles (sledders in Canadian?) blasted by us. Eventually we found an enormous lodge and camped near it. The climb itself consisted mostly of circumnavigated glacier systems to get to the line that took us to the summit. But that last section was delightfully steep. The views from the top? Wow. Snow peaks as far as the eye could see, with a bonus granite dome and the small town of Squamish. read more
