I recently went in for a new patient appt / cleaning. Once my X-rays were taken the dentist came to speak with me and started prodding at my gums very aggressively calling out numbers for gum depth (1 -5 reflecting how deep a patients gums are). When I told her she was hurting me she apologized but continued to press hard on/in my gums with her instrument causing me to squirm in the chair. This was red flag #1, she called numbers 1-5 referring to the state of the gums and advised that I needed a 'deep cleaning' as some of my teeth had deep 4 and 5 pockets. The deep cleaning process takes two visits at $100+ per visit. Additionally, the dentist told me she 'thought' I had a cavity on one of my teeth and recommended a crown. How is she going to put a crown as a necessity when she wasn't certain I had a cavity?! Red flag #2 When I pushed back regarding the treatment plan I could tell she wasn't happy her facial expression was that of annoyance. I was questioning her as my previous dentists typically provided me with a few options. However, she was only providing me with the one option. I ended up staying and paid for the deep cleaning on one side of my mouth. Paying the $100+ out of pocket expense plus what ever was billed to my insurance. After thinking about my experience and my 'gut feeling' that they were trying to take advantage of me. I searched up reviews on various social media sites and found that others had a similar experience to mine. I quickly canceled my upcoming appointments with them and started my search for a more reputable practice. Today was my appointment with the new practice. Obtaining my X-rays from Mt Juliet Dental Group was less than smooth and fell in line with the already negative experience I had from last week. The office member emailed pictures only not X-rays to the new practice. I had to call personally to have them send the needed X-rays sent over I am dissatisfied with my experience and learned at the new practice that my gums are healthy, that deep cleaning was unnecessary, and that I had zero cavities. Beware of this practice. From my experience they are dishonest and unethical and will recommend unneeded treatment to make money. read more

I wish I had read these reviews before going to this dental group. All I wanted was a standard cleaning. Upon the start of the appointment, they take your BP, then make you do some sort of collagen test, then poke and prod your gums creating a bleed so they can tell you, you need a deep cleaning. They try to upsell for everything. I did not agree to the deep cleaning and became irritated when after sitting in the chair for 1.15 hours, they still had not started my cleaning. Finally, when they started the cleaning, she rushed through it so much I had to tell her I did not want her to rush through the very thing I came there for to begin with. She tried to slow down, but it was forced, unnatural and very uncomfortable. Additionally, the floors were filthy, used gloves thrown about, and trash overflowing in the rooms. I've never had a worse experience. Will not go back there. read more

If I could give lower than a 1-star I would. Husband went in for tooth pain. We knew the location of the pain as the tooth was slightly loose. They took x-rays and proceeded to tell him he had major bone loss in his jaw and THE ONLY OPTION was to rip all his teeth out and put in dentures. This would be $10k out of pocket AFTER insurance paid. He left with no pain relief and no option of ending that pain. We went to get a second option. Not only did they take new x-rays, they pulled the tooth in 30 seconds, which relieved him immediately, they looked absolutely shocked when he told them what this place had said. TOTALLY UNNECESSARY and disgust. DO NOT go to this place! These people are not in this business to help people. I even wonder if there is room to sue them for the distress they caused thinking there was MAJOR damage to his jaw bone. WOW. Just WOW. Shame on you people!!!!! Went there for 6 month cleaning. Was told my wisdom teeth were putting my dental health at risk. They wanted $6000 to remove 2 wisdom teeth. I would owe $2000 with insurance. I sought a second opinion at the Tooth Extraction Clinic where I was told after age 25 (I am 50+) wisdom teeth should only be removed if they are decayed which mine were not. Went back for a cleaning (dumb mistake) to MJ dental was rescheduled due to mandatory meeting. I suppose the meeting was bad because everyone acted like they just got chewed out. I was there for 2 HOURS for a simple cleaning! Also, not one mention about my wisdom teeth. Just best to avoid them. read more

This post is written on behalf of my 85yo father, who had a very frightening and unprofessional experience at MJ Dental Group. I chose one star only because no stars was not an option. My father is in good health and has been diligent with his oral care his entire life, last cleaning/exam mid 2021 with no issues. He lives in the MJ area and came to see Dr. Julien when his insurance changed. Essentially Dr. Julien and this practice took extreme advantage of him and depleted all of his coverage for the entire year on the first visit. He was there for FOUR hours while he underwent 12 X-rays (12!), a deep cleaning (can be dangerous on an elderly patient), had a 30+ year crown removed because they found some decay, was fitted for a temporary crown with permanent pending but planned for root canal first and also another tooth pulled. Reminder - his last cleaning was 6 mos prior with zero issues and he was having NO pain or other problems; he was only there because he was due for 6mo cleaning and he wanted to establish with someone locally. His bill ON THE FIRST VISIT was over $4000 with an estimated $3000 to be paid later after the rest of the work was completed. He was asked to sign a contract to commit to these payments but fortunately only signed for the work that was done. It is apparent the plan of care for my Dad was for Dr. Julien and her team to reel him in for multiple procedures, likely including a dental implant later after pulling that tooth. After we quickly realized what was happening, he paid in full for services already rendered and cancelled future appointments/procedures. He has now returned to his previous dentist with his temporary crown in place and will have to pay cash for any other dental needs for the rest of the year. I have years of experience in geriatric medicine, and it is very poor practice to search for issues on an asymptomatic patient of this age. If you go looking for problems, you will likely find something but it is judicious to correlate these findings with clinical presentation, aka how do they look and feel. He was having no issues and was just trying to patronize a local business. SHAME ON YOU, MJ Dental Group, for having no conscience about delivering this type of care. I don't know how you live with yourself for taking advantage of anyone but especially someone on a fixed income with limited dental coverage. read more

Going to this office felt like going to the auto shop for an oil change and being told you need a new engine. I anticipated my appointment to be establishing care with a new provider and receiving a cleaning - this was not the case. I was told my gums were dangerously unhealthy due to postpartum hormones, and that I needed expensive treatements over multiple sessions in order to correct them. When I asked why I couldn't receive a regular cleaning, I was given a spiel about how it would be "unethical given the level treatment (I) needed". I was given a lot of pressure to sign up for expensive treatments on the spot. I didn't feel great about the office or the care at this point, so I went to another dentist in the area for a second opinion - as suspected, the treatments proposed by Mt. Juliet Dental Group were not deemed necessary. For an office preaching to patients on ethics, maybe they shouldn't use scare tactics and condescension to make a profit. read more

As a new patient to the practice, I was anxious and skeptical due older negative reviews posted online. Dr. Jessee Gillian, Claire-the hygienist, Crimson-the front desk, 2 dental assistants and Carlee-the office manager have been fantastic! I was at Mt. Juliet Dental Group 3 days in a row this month and got all of my necessary dental services performed! My son has been there for 2 other visits since I have been there with nothing but pleasant things to say about the staff and services received. Just like the people below I came in and new to the area. I told them I'm just trying to get a dentist in Tennessee. I waited for a whole hour! Appointment was at 4 and didn't leave until 6 and only got X-rays done. They refused to give me a cleaning cause they wanted to charge me for a deep cleaning. They said they couldn't clean my teeth because it would spread bacteria around. I take care of my teeth and very cautious about my teeth. It was ridiculous the person taking X-rays is a smart ass and the dentist was on her phone just trying to charge people with ridiculous things. read more

I do not recommend Mt Juliet Dental Group. We have had our 6 mo dental check ups done here since late 2017. Every time we go there is a different Dentist. They offer unnecessary, expensive services. Just last week I went in and was quoted an exorbitant price (after insurance) for some work I (may) need done. The 'new' Dentist was not professional; her response to a question of mine was a firm "Absolutely not." I am definitely seeking a second opinion and will not return. read more

For many years I have skipped my annual checkups and cleanings. No more. From the moment I walked in to ask about payment plans and services I was greeted by the friendly and helpful front office staff. Latoya and Ashley walked me through all my options very clearly and professionally. Since then, I have had a deep cleaning which was long overdue. The hygenist Kayla did an absolutely perfect job and took all the fear out of this process. Finally Dr Brett is a pro. He answered every one of my questions concisely and his work is impeccable. I had a horrible experience and it was my first time going there and all I wanted was a cleaning. They suggested I have a filling and two crowns done that day, but the crowns took over 8 hours and it still didn't get done. I was in too much pain and had to move on to another dentist in order to help me. 2 crowns should take 2 hours max. read more

Went for a cleaning last November and was diagnosed as need a cap (cracked moler). I should point out that the cleaning process was an inspection similar to what a dentist would do after a dental hygienist finished a cleaning. Second I was not in any pain but opted to follow their professional advice. I paid 1200.00 cash for a crown 2 months later 1/2021 and I'm still in pain from the process. I afraid to go back due to the fact the whole time I was there they were up sales of their services and pushed for multiple deep cleaning sessions. $$$$.. This was by far my worst dental experience. I went in for a new pt cleaning, they only cleaned the face of my four front teeth, counted all my teeth and told me it would cost $700 to do extras. I informed them I was there for my 6mo cleaning only. My teeth are in perfect condition I've been seeing the dentist every 6mo since childhood, the swindlers sent in two others to try to talk me into more services, when I declined she walked out. I overheard them ask her why she wasn't able to talk me into it and she laughed loudly stating that she tried all she could. read more

Jokers. They had my fiancee come in for oral surgery. She needed a wisdom tooth removed. They told her over the phone that they had an oral surgeon on site who could take care of it in less than an hour. When we arrived, she had to fill out a questionnaire that was basically "what can we sell you?" Then, they took her back for an exam. 15 minutes later, they sent her out and stated they did NOT have an oral surgeon on staff, but gladly billed her insurance for the exam. They referred her to someone else in a completely different town. The other two reviews on here are obviously friends of employees. If you value your smile and billfold, don't even give these fools the time of day. read more

Love this place. Best I've been too in many years. Oral surgeon on site was able to remove two lower wisdom teeth with IV sedation and I was checking out an hour later. I had a question during the recovery and I called the oral surgeons office and quickly was seen and it turned out to be a very simple fix and did not have to pay for the follow up visit. read more

Amazing customer service amazing customer service started the minute I walked in. The paperwork was a breeze to fill out on the iPad and the staff was there to help with any questions I had. The doctor came out and introduced himself then gave me a tour around the office to make me feel a little more comfortable. The doctor sat with me and discussed problems I was having, issues that needed to be worked on and my overall comfort level with being at the dentist. I had to have a crown put in but they were able to make it and place it within an hour and a half. During my wait even the back office staff came to see if I was doing okay or if i needed anything while I waited. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone who is a little hesitant about getting work done. read more
