She started pearls within mini, many years ago on her own, and now has her own shop. To open an oyster and see what surprises inside is one of the most exciting things to do. There is a backstory to the piece of birchbark that is shown in the final product. I was walking in the woods conversing with God, and this just happened to be on the ground. To me, it was a symbol of direction to the people I love up here in the state of Maine. To me, I saw the letter 'N' with an arrow going through it, which indicated to me that I had friends and loved ones up in the north... which is very true! The pearl and its shell came from Wendy's boutique. She opened a shell that my BFF Cathy chose for me from the bowl (totally a group effort) for me, and cleaned off the beautiful white pearl that was within. We then took the birch bark, shell, and the beautiful pearl and put together the framing container that you see here. We called here to see if we could have a brass bell engraved. They were confident in their answer…read morein being able to engrave it so we dropped the bell off with them. We called to check on the bell and first were told the girl who could work on it didn't come in until 10 one morning and they would call us with an update. I'm sure there was some confusion with myself calling and my husband being the person they called back however, after we called to check again on the bell, we were told that they engraved it, didn't like how it came out, buffed it, and would be re-engraving it. Once again, when we called to check on it, we were told that the girl that did engraving didn't work on Mondays. Then, next thing we know, they are telling us they can no longer engrave it. I understand that unpredictable situations occur and perhaps my perception of the experience is a bit different, but we were told they could do something and then after apparently doing work, could no longer perform the service requested. It just felt a bit off... everyone was friendly when we would call so nothing against the employees, just ended up being a situation that set us back on this project (a gift) a few weeks longer than we would have liked and just seemed like we were being given false information.
