We had…read moreattended a coop in the past, and she had a hard time being dropped off, so we were cautiously hopeful that her first foray into preschool would be a positive one for her. All of the teachers at Little Hands are so sweet with her, and take her into their fold as soon as we get there. Any clinginess she has dissipates within seconds of arriving. When I come back to pick her up, she's all smiles, hugging and kissing her teachers. The half day schedule is 4 hours long, which is perfect - long enough that I don't have to turn around right after dropping her off to pick her up again. And they feed the kids snack AND lunch so I don't have to worry about packing a lunch on top of trying to get everyone out of the door in the morning. BONUS. The space is sweet - a large backyard with lots of play structures and toys, as well as chickens and bunnies. The kids help feed the chickens and sometimes collect eggs to use for lunch. They also have a plot at the community garden a few blocks away that they'll go to sometimes for a picnic lunch. Best of all, this is a place where my kid can get MESSY. I'm too anal to do those kinds of projects at home - the ones involving glue, glitter, paint, mud, gack... But I don't want my kid to be anal like me, so I'm very happy to see her little feet and face covered in dirt and what-not at the end of the day. My younger son joined this past year, and we are so grateful that he, too, gets to grow and learn in such a special place. The teachers at Little Hands are truly exceptional--kind, conscientious, warm, and confident. They approach each child with genuine care and respect, creating a safe space where kids are not only encouraged to explore and express themselves, but also gently guided to be thoughtful, kind, and responsible members of their community. It's clear that the staff is deeply committed to teaching children how to be good humans in our complex world. We especially love the play-based learning approach, which allows the children to learn through curiosity, imagination, and joyful discovery. The time they spend outside in the beautiful garden is a highlight--planting, playing, and connecting with nature in meaningful ways. It's the kind of early childhood experience every parent hopes for. Little Hands has been such a gift to our family. Our oldest started there around age 2.5 and our youngest started at 6 months, so we've had the chance to see all aspects of teaching and care at the SE location. The preschool program is excellent. Along with plenty of free play, indoors and outdoors, Childroots has the kids participate in small workshops (called ateliers) in which they explore various aspects of art, science, math and reading. Having your child come home every day and tell you about the science experiment they did or, at a young age, talk about the chapter books that were being read to them, was wonderful. One great aspect not to be ignored, is food. Kids start eating at a table with utensils and real cups once they can sit up, and then as they approach the 1 year mark, Childroots starts serving family style vegetarian meals. Our kids have always been good eaters, but it doesn't hurt when they're having quinoa, beans, rice, kale, squash, cabbage etc at school. Knowing that they were getting a healthy morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack definitely took a lot of pressure off of meal planning for us. Entrusting others with your children is never an easy process, but the quality and passion of the teachers as well as the training they receive, should give you no pause if you are thinking of sending your kids here.

I have also been very impressed and satisfied with how they have handled the COVID-19 crisis through transparent and thoughtful communication and processes. My child has been attending another Childroots school (Northwest) as the Southeast center closed temporarily and I have been so pleased with how easily my child transitioned into the new setting. I believe it's a testament to their philosophy and staff training which provided a safe and familiar structure for my child during this uncertain time. Overall, I highly recommend Childroots.

We made the decision to use Kindercare Learning Center at Kroger Fred Meyer for summer care for our…read more(now) 5 year old. Our goals for the summer included our daughter becoming fully potty-trained, and setting her up for success with positive peer interaction (i.e. not using her hands to communicate during conflict). We talked extensively with the center about these two goals, and they worked closely with her on both issues, individually and in group settings. I'm pleased to say that she successfully achieved both goals, and it is solely due to the work from the staff at Kindercare. They are extremely knowledgeable in child development, and their staff is both kind and patient with children. I would definitely use them again for full-time care. I have returned to working for ChildRoots for the last two years. Since my return, I have had a…read morewonderful experience. I started back again as a Teacher then moved into the role of Specialist. Management has the best interests of the teachers in mind and strives to improve working experience daily. The main reason I have decided to work with ChildRoots is a) the management and b) the philosophy. I truly believe that children learn best through hands-on experience and exploration of their own interests. Many of the staff are some of the best people I have ever worked with (shout out to the amazing, dedicated team). I will shortly be leaving to continue my education, but I would stay if I could continue working with these amazing teachers and admin. As they say, "You don't quit a place. You quit your boss," and that's why I have returned and have dedicated myself to continue working with ChildRoots until I return to school.

When you do ask for support they make you feel like you're in the wrong. Admin has gone through so many changes and the actual owner/boss isn't even there ever. She "works from home" but does absolutely nothing and has no interaction with employees whatsoeve. they don't even have a reliable hr person. The HR person isn't on site and when you text or email them it takes days for them to answer and then when you fill out your ins information with your address they mess it up and put the centers address as your home address and you cant fix it without having them completely redo the application. The Hr Person is basically non existent in the company. They used to have Greta benefits but have recently started taking them away so workers had to form a union but since no bargaining session has happened yet they are still treating employees very badly.

Our daughter has grown so much since attending and loves Ms. Anna, her school mates, and the environment so much! She always has stories and lessons she's learned from the day. I love how the small group really gets to know each other and how intentional and curated the lessons are to each child. I'm also constantly in awe of Teacher Anna's patience, kindness, attention to detail and the way she holds boundaries in a way that's firm but also so gracious. It really has created this safe space where kids feel supported, loved and free to be themselves and grow. She is amazing at redirecting when needed and also comforting when needed. Really couldn't ask for anything more, it was the exact fit we had been looking for for over 3 years!! We love it here!
