I never got warm fuzzies from the salespeople who seemed very intense and eager for any sale. They never engaged in pressure sales but once interest was shown they quickly descended with military precision. Our salesperson was efficient and solid, but seemed quickly irritated when he couldn't close a sale immediately especially if a cash register was occupied by another co-worker. We were never in a rush but our salesperson wanted to be done. He hovered by three different machines before one freed up. The merchandise is quite nice! I especially loved the purses which were classy and unique with fantastic colors. I love them! If you want fancy paper or great purses would highly recommend!

While visiting a local tailor in London, I asked for a referral to a good leather tailor. The first name he gave me was Cromford. We visited all three referral's he gave us but, were blown away by Cromford and Pauline. I am 6' tall with a 37" sleeve length. As a result, it's almost impossible for me to buy anything off the rack. This is especially so with leather jackets. When I saw the quality of the leather, the workmanship and the names of some of their clientele, it was obvious Cromford Leather was the right choice. So, buying a made to measure leather jacket is not a quick process. We had to head back to the states in 8 days. And, the measuring and fitting process, along with the test fit can't be done within a day or so. Knowing we were on a short schedule, Pauline and team worked to have a test jacket ready for fitment upon our return to London 7 days later. We immediately headed for Cromford upon our return. They had the test garment ready for me. After making some very slight modifications, she confirmed the jacket would be ready to mail to me a few weeks later. Being a very expensive investment, it was a bit nerve wracking to leave London and wait for weeks to receive a jacket that might not fit. The end of the story is I couldn't be happier with the jacket! Perfect Fit!!! Extraordinary quality!! Fantastic leather! I get compliments on the jacket from men and women alike every time I wear it! They may be a bit pricey, but you can't go wrong with Cromford, Pauline and her team! They are worth every penny.

I wandered in twice in the last several weeks, as this was a British Air transfer point as we were flying from SFO to JNB and back. And this was well before the latest Covid/Omicron events. I'm a huge fan of Smythson's yearly Panama-style diaries and I've picked up other premium leather goods over the years. Hence, it was a treat to enter and look around this small stylish shop. This stuff is relatively expensive and even more so since LHR shops no longer offer a VAT break. There were a few sale items to check out, which are often certain colors of otherwise full priced offerings. I ended up with some personalized note cards, an eye glass sleeve, and spotted items that I hope go on sale in the future. It's often wise to also check their online offerings as the store doesn't always carry them. And for some odd reason, if I can get into the Smythson's UK site and order for USA delivery, it's a little cheaper than ordering from home. And of course, if you're into pretty Smythson pouches and bags with your purchase, this is also your place.

And perhaps now my favourite clothes store. This place is very swanky, the clothes screaming 'FASHIONABLE' at you. On clothes racks, they have outfits (eg, a Jumper/Shirt combo or Coat/Jumper/Shirt combo) to exhibition how good they look, and the individual constituents of these outfits are found folded up in immaculate piles on various counters around the shop. I found the staff unconciously intimidating though.. following me around and eyeing me carefully, they didn't ask if I needed assistance but made me feel like I was being chaperoned. You can expect to pay from £200-300 on a good outfit so this is definitely limiting their clientele but hey, their attitudes can be justifiable.. maybe they can smell a penny pincher like me....

Finally, I saw past the squareness of it all on an early June day, and made my way in to the quaint boutique. Here's the skinny -- everything is a bit boxy. It's not quite as "shoreditch" as the window displays would have you believe, though. The upside to this particular cut and style is that it fits a wider range of people (pun intended? no). For me though personally, not very flattering so I skipped on most of the items I adored on the racks. but did end up with one very lovely summery dress that will be very nice for work, chiming in at £78. It's flowy, not boxy -- big difference! However ACCESSORIES. This is where it's at in the Relax Garden, my dears. Earrings, necklaces, scarves, sunglasses...all very inexpensive. I snagged a gorgeous pair of triangle earrings, a summer scarf, a headband (we'll see how that goes) and was truly delighted at the options. It's a very small shop. I am sure if I had just told them that they would've left me to it. They've been open 10 years. They are doing something right! The clothes are well made and not nearly as expensive as I had anticipated. If you are shopping in or around Shoreditch High Street, make sure to give this one a go, it'll be worth it for the accessories and perhaps you are the perfect person for that square fit boxy look -- then it's a goldmine.
