TL;DR: Marizen is NOT a lawyer. She is a Legal Document Assistant that cannot provide you with legal advice. She is a significantly affordable option for a Living Trust but she is unprofessional and has poor attention to detail-- key characteristics that are paramount to detailing an important document. Details: I left a Living Trust inquiry via her site and Marizen emailed me back within 1 day to "text" her back for a scheduled over-the-phone consult. Upon speaking with Marizen it was clear she did not take the time to review the few questions I had sent her in my initial inquiry as she was confused as to what the consult would primarily be regarding. Her rates were significantly less than what other competing services were offering which raised an orange flag for me. Upon further research, I realized Marizen was NOT a lawyer, but rather a "Legal Document Assistant (LDA)." According to the CA Attorney General, LDAs cannot give legal advice. This was my first encounter with an LDA, which allowed me the opportunity to do the necessary research to make a more educated investment. Had Marizen gotten back to me with the necessary next steps and questionnaire as she had promised (it's been over 1.5 weeks), I may have considered her as a possible option to complete my Living Trust needs. But if you are looking for a more affordable option, perhaps Marizen is a good fit for you.

The estate has still not been fully paid out, and despite repeated calls and emails, Mr. Chaddock has not responded. A fiduciary should communicate promptly and act in the best interests of the beneficiaries, but that has not been our experience here. We would recommend proceeding with caution and asking very specific questions about responsiveness and timelines before hiring him. Mr Chaddock or the attorney working with him on this probate/estate Jeffrey Killeen have stopped communication with our family and there is still over $100,000 that has not been paid out.

My son had a complete breakdown. His behavior was horrible. He verbally attacked me and stated he didn't want me near his son. Several months later he got his life back on track and recanted his statement. Our grandchildren spent one weekend per month with my husband and I. When our DIL went to Vietnam Nam we cared for the children for two weeks. We kept both children during vacations from school and over holidays. During our interview with Mr Penn he was more interested in reliving his military career and seeing if he and my husband had friends in common. He paid little attention to me. Needless to say this went to trial and we were denied ANY visitation with our grandson. Our son is allowed to see his son every 6 weeks in a counselors office. The counselor has suggested they go to dinner or gaming and his former spouse will not allow it. Unless we spend another $40K in attorney fees we cannot see our grandson. Our grandson lost his beloved sister, his father and grandparents who doted on him. Mr Penn should/could have worked to ensure the boy received love from all parties. Instead he opted to side with my DIL attorney as (we believe) he is on retainer with them.

He asked for relevant information over email and gave us fully detailed overview of the process including what he services he could and could not provide (e.g. he couldn't represent us in court, but he could file deed and get it recorded) My wife and I both are working people and needed a lot of flexibility. Both of us would need to go sign the paperwork and have it notarized. Rob offered to get into his office at 7:30am just to accommodate us even though his office building itself doesn't open till 9. When we went there he was ready with all the paperwork and he went over everything in detail. We even made a check that was slightly higher amount by mistake (including credit card surcharge) and Rob pointed out that the amount should be lower!
