Expecting the usual pub mystery meats covered in clotted cheese, we were surprised to find that this establishment considers itself something of a gastro-pub serving a variety of odd "fusion" dishes, including a crepe-like ratatouille pancake, decent vegetable puree soup, chorizo covered in what apparently passes here for haloumi cheese, and a tuna steak that is of course cooked all the way through until it is dead, since, although great strides have been made, you Brits have a long way to go before you become acclimated to seared raw fish. Burlington's is the first place I had Fish and Chips in the UK. (I've been told it's better up north, but to date, I'm not sure I believe people, as what I've tried, really doesn't compare!) Burlington's also introduced me to Mushy Peas. I'm definitely a fan, and whenever I have out of the country visitors (who always seem to want to get Fish and Chips while they're in the UK for some reason), I always take them to Burlington's. It does help that it's near our place, but it is one of the better fish places I've been to. My partner and I can often get away with a starter and splitting a main because the portions are amazingly huge. The takeaway portions are smaller, but still quite good sized. There service was great, especially considering that we were chatting for so long prior to ordering! Dinner was fantastic and after a long day of travel, sure hit the spot. I will say though, I will say though, I wasn't overly impressed with the Yorkshire Pudding as I've had better here in Canada. Apart from that though, everything was seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. It really capped off our evening perfectly after a very long day of travel.
