I went tonight to watch the PSG vs Chelsea game, and ended up playing poker with a couple of lovely guys, and the manager, Darryl, who turned out to be not so lovely. After the football, whislt I was at the bar, another patron shouted out 'Chelsea Nonce'. This is an offensive homophobic slur when connected to football, as evidenced by the conviction of Joey Barton who repeatedly used it on social media. I politely but firmly told the guy that was not okay. He got aggresive and told me to 'F' off. He then said it again. I reitereated that his language wasn't okay, and said I'd call the police if he said it again. He said it again. I dialled 999. At this point the manager (Darryl) asked me to leave the pub and took my drink away (I had just bought him a pint). He said he was removing me from the premises 'for my own safety'. The police attended. The said that 'nonce' was not a slur. I advised them to educate themselves, They were rude and dismissive. Darryl appeared at the door, grinning, and invited the officers into the pub. They left within 2 minutes, and reported on their radio that no offence had been comiited. I got their badge numbers and names and have made a complaint to Hertfordshire police. The police officers advised me that if I was now unwelcome in the pub, if I didn't move on and a complaint by the manager was made, I would be moved on by them forcefully. This is NOT an LGBTQ friendly pub. It's NOT a friendly pub at all under it's current management. Have a look at the other poor reviews for this pub and how the manager responds. J
