My wife had seen this storefront the last several times we have left the town of Lakenheath to go traveling during our vacation and stay with our son. We finally go around to trying them, via take out (or is it take-away around here?) through the use of their website. Just about everything I saw at the store was offered on the website and it was all accurately depicted. There was one hiccup with the honey we ordered - they remedied it on the bill, so all good there. For lunch - my wife had their curry chicken sandwich while I had their BBQ version. For desserts we enjoyed a chocolate caramel biscuit of sorts with gram-cracker crust, along with an eclair of sorts as well - all of it was made fresh, waiting for me when I got there, and best of all very tasty. Since they didn't have the honey I added a piece of carrot cake to the order, they took care of that with a snap and the whole process - in and out - took less than 5-minutes. They were friendly and accommodating with all the questions I had. We will hopefully make it here for breakfast one morning before we leave...

We always order the medium breakfast which includes beans, one egg, one sausage, 2 slices of bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast.

One can argue that the upper crust is the best part of the (sliced) bread. Definitely smoother and…read moresomehow even just a tad bit more flavourful than the boring and sometimes tough lower crust...almost always the first thing you're biting into when having toast or a sandwich. So I totally dig the name of this sandwich chain, but believe they've completely missed out on matching the name with the product--because I've never seen any sliced bread on their counters. In a way, it's deceptive marketing, but I digress. Most of the sandwiches you'll see displayed behind the glass are made with baguettes, exceptions being the morning bacon rolls. My usual go-to is the old reliable Ham & Cheese Baguette, but I have had others like the Chicken Salad & Bacon and a surprisingly delightful Ham Benedict Baguette which includes slices of boiled egg in lieu of fried or poached eggs. The composition of the latter makes for a less messy moving breakfast when you're commuting in business attire. Speaking of mess control, it's also clever that they've labelled their sandwich wrappers as "Free Crumb Catchers" because you will surely need that bag to collect what would otherwise fall into your lap as you crunch your way through its contents. You'll probably find the Upper Crust takeaway eatery at nearly every medium to large rail station in England. This particular one is on the right hand side once you enter the main station or on the left hand side upon exiting the platform barriers. While a few of their shops have served subpar sandwiches e.g. stale bread, the Norwich one has rarely let me down unless sold out. As they're a chain, I do wish there were a loyalty program in place for frequent visitors such as myself. 3.75 stars.

Several interesting choices, including Smoked Ham & Mozzarella and Brie Bacon and Tomato. If you ask, they will toss your baguette in the microwave for a few seconds, which really improves the sandwich. There's a full cooler of sodas, waters and juices, plus several choices of crisps ("chips" in American). Not exactly cheap, the typical baguette runs £3 to £4.50, plus chips and a drink, you're spending £7. But you can't beat the convenience.
