The Mundo Hot Spring Debacle Nancy has been wanting to visit Mundo Hot Spring for quite some time so she got us a reservation several weeks in advance for Oct. 15. She reserved a small cabin with a private tub and a privacy fence. Check in was 4 p.m. and check out at 11 a.m. Nancy said there was a cafe and we'd eat there. We got there and we were showed around. It was a nice looking place. There was a microwave, a small refrigerator and a small heater. We got into bathing suits and into the hot tub we went. It was pleasant enough. When we got out I went across the street looking for food and came away with some very overpriced snacks. Nancy said there was a restaurant and left to go get a menu. It wasn't quite a restaurant not even a cafe. She came back with a menu for Turkey, Beef or some other kind of sandwich and a chef's salad. Pretty piss poor pickings. I had beef she had turkey. I could have made a dozen sandwiches in the time it took to get two. They were mediocre at best. We filled our bellies and bedded down for the night. About midnight, I got up to turn on the heat, no joy, the damned thing didn't work. At 3 a.m. we were both freezing. I plugged the heater into every electrical outlet in the place - - nada. By 6 a.m. we'd had enough. I started to truck to warmup while we gathered our things. Heated seats were never so good as they were that morning. We made a quick stop at Dutch Brothers for coffee and arrived home a little after 8 a.m. Nancy called the hot springs and was given a "We're sorry to hear that." No offer for a day pass. No offer for a free night - - nothing. So we had a reservation, waited weeks to go, and for all of the trouble of freezing our butts off, we got a "We're sorry." That's about as close to "We got your money and you can screw off" without actually coming out and saying it. That was Thursday morning. Nancy said she thought the lady she dealt with, after having some time to think about it, would come around to make it good. So this morning, Monday, I asked her if she had heard anything - - Nada! Like Jami W., I was surprised to read the bad reviews for Mundo. One clue as to the authenticity of the four one-star reviews is that the four reviewers have a grand total of 21 reviews, an average of seven apiece. One has only one review, another has four. Not very prolific for Yelp users. We brought our camper trailer to Mundo for a Thanksgiving weekend trip. Because it was late in the year, we knew they wouldn't have water or wastewater hookups. All we needed was an electric plugin, which worked fine. The hot springs pool was well-maintained and the warm water was refreshing. Employees came by frequently to ensure the water temperature remained within acceptable levels. The staff was friendly and they even refunded our hot springs fee for the final day, after we decided to leave a bit early because the forecast called for a snow storm before we had planned to leave to go home to Boise. We're glad Mundo is near an entry point for the Weiser River Trail, an 84-mile former railroad path between Weiser and Council. We plan to return in the summer to ride the trail. read more

The owner is a total nazi about taking a shower before going in! So much so that although we showered, she stood in the walkway and stared us down. very creepy and unfriendly. The water definitely had some floaters too; Not very clean. The changing rooms weren't very private and a woman ran into the men's room to grab her kid despite having a male companion that could have done so for her. The doors were rarely closed and the curtains covering the showers are flimsy. Instead of actual dividers between each shower, there's also curtains that anyone could move. We want to come back so badly cause the pool is awesome! One thing keeping us from not returning is the woman managing - she is not kind & friendly - told us to get out or pay another $20. when our short time was up- even though the pool only had a few people swimming- she also didn't make anyone else pay twice as they stayed even longer than us. It was also creepy having her watch us so intently- & she wasn't a lifeguard. read more

I can't believe the bad reviews of this place. It doesn't seem like much from the approach, but once inside it is beautiful. Everything was so clean. Water felt amazing. Prices are super reasonable. It's a soaking pool, not a swimming pool so I wouldn't recommend for families with little ones who want to run and play. There is also a ramped entry for anyone with limited strength or mobility to get in. We had made reservations for two 2-hours sessions but were so utterly relaxed and sleepy after one that there was no way we could do two. And the heated changing rooms were SO nice after getting out of the water on a cold day. All in all we had a wonderful time and definitely plan to go back. We would also consider staying in one of the RV spaces or even renting one of their cabins. The staff was incredibly friendly as well. You can tell there's great pride in ownership just by looking at the place. Can't wait to go back. read more

WHAT A DUMP! We had reservations for two sites for 5 nights. After a three mile drive on a dusty dirt road we arrived at Mundo. We waited 30 minutes and never found anyone to help us. 5 Sites of appeared to be laid out in a field. The other sites were in back. Definitely not an RV resort but for folks living in their RV's. I would not suggest this place for a tourist stop. Not that kind of place. We were in class A motorhomes. Wish I had taken a picture to post to give you a real look. read more

Steve H's review below is spot on. When looking for an RV site overnight you should ask 1 question..."are there permanent or long term residents living in the park?" At 5am this morning we enjoyed a park resident warming up his truck before starting off to work and last evening we had the conversation..."maybe we should get out of here". Hot spring hours are now 4pm - 8pm...subtract the dinner hour and that doesn't leave much. Let's be positive though...the dumpster is certainly convenient, you meet a lot of locals and if you like boondocking, this is pretty similar. Oh, our site was level! Our advice...keep moving and find a better spot like maybe a truck stop. read more

I have never felt so unwelcome camping before! The owner and her husband are terrible! They are rude. They come around to watch you about every hour. The hot springs are nice but don't open until noon, and close at 8pm unless you rent he "house", a dump of a trailer from the 1970's that looks out onto the pool and makes you feel like they are watching you like in some horror movie. If you rent the trailer you can swim until 10pm or just blast your music until 3 am while everyone else's kids ask "Daddy, hour come they get to swim and we don't?" You are lucky, I would hav paid money to avoid this experience, you can take my advice and avoid the un welcoming trailer park like the plague it is! read more

My first exposure to Mundo was a couple years ago, when some friends and I bicycled the Weiser River Trail (a 70-odd mile rail-trail conversion that runs from Tamarack, ID to Weiser, ID) in late Spring. Cambridge is about halfway along the trail; we stayed in the Mundo "hostel" facility. We found it to be relatively spartan but comfortable for 6 tired bike riders. (Mundo is a couple miles out of Cambridge... but is just a half-mile or so from the trail head.) Since then, I have returned several times by motorcycle, to camp and "soak" in the pool. On each of those occasions, I've had an enjoyable time. I've also eaten at the "bistro" - the menu is limited, but the food is tasty. (I always go with the "Mundo Burger," to satisfy my carnivorous tendencies.) Earlier this month (August, 2018) we decided as a family to give the "Pool House" a try, on a special weekend. We made our reservations, and Sophie and her crew were expecting us. We had eight in our group - 5 adults and 3 kids, and the sleeping facilities were barely adequate... there are 2 bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a "full" bed. There are also a couple of sofa/sleepers. The Missus and I took the "full" bed, and being used to a queen bed, the full seemed tiny. Sigh... We also got reports that the queen bed wasn't very comfortable. The sofa/sleeper people pretty much knew what to expect, and their expectations were met. (The kitchen/dining/living facilities were very adequate.) Synopsis: the "pool house" is NOT a high-end luxury resort bungalow, but it did the job. The reason we went - and the reason for Mundo's existence - is their soaking pool. They take VERY good care of it, and it is lovely! There are actually two pools - one that looks like a small swimming pool, maybe 40x40 feet, 18 inches deep at one end and 4 feet deep at the other. And, a "hot tub" -like pool, round, and perhaps 15 feet across. During our recent stay, the temperature in the main pool was 93.1 degrees (they check it regularly). I've stayed before when the temperature ranged up to 98.6 degrees. The "hot tub" is 15 or so degrees warmer. The pool is open (for a fee) to other clientele... but after 8pm, it is available exclusively to the "pool house" clientele. Some of us began our dip at 7pm or so; from 8pm until about 10pm, the entire group (from grandpa - me - at 64 years down to our 1-year-old) soaked in splendor! Like all "hot spring" pools, the water is geothermally heated. I've partaken of numerous hot springs over the course of a lifetime, and can't remember a more enjoyable hot spring experience than the one at Mundo! Highly recommended. Another reviewer describes a "slum trailer/rv park," and says the management is rude. Here's my take: - There are indeed some permanent mobile homes, a couple in various stages of disrepair. I'm sure the transient visitors (rv park) arrive with a wide variety of conveyances, from vintage trailers to high-end motor coaches. I've camped in a small tent (on a nice shaded grassy spot)... some people would consider that pretty low-class, but it's how I roll. - Over the course of 5 or 6 visits, I've never had a negative encounter with Sophie or her staff. They've always treated me with alacrity. (I've always tried to cheerful and pleasant back at 'em... perhaps that is the key.) SUMMARY: - the hot springs pool(s) are wonderful! - the hostel is "functional and adequate" - the pool house is nice, but the beds are marginal - it's a nice place to pitch a tent for an overnight camp/soak - the bistro can feed you, but with a limited menu - the prices they charge for everything are very reasonable If you expect a luxury health spa, I'd suggest you try St. Moritz, or Tuscany, or perhaps Sun Valley. A great, smaller hot springs pool with a hot tub tucked away. You can rent the "pool house" which is a very nicely furnished double-wide and have up to seven people stay. They have a Bistro which offers cold and hot sandwiches, salads, snacks, and soda. You can eat your meal outside at tables or inside. The service was great and the lady working was very friendly and accommodating. Hours and rates posted on website were correct and they are constantly upgrading the place. read more

We were very disappointed. The hot spring pool looks beautiful on the brochure but is located in a slum trailer/rv park. The owner is an English lady and was rude to our family and the other customers waiting to sign in. As we were in the pool we heard other people complaining about the service and how their children were treated. This is definitely a tourist trap. After seeing the condition the campers bathroom was in, we decided not to eat at their bistro. We will never camp or visit there again. read more
