The line for Murphy's was out the door, which I figured must be the sign of a good ice cream shop. It's located in a very lively area. While waiting in line, the workers gave us samples, which was very kind. It allowed me to figure out what I wanted to order, as well as try some of their unique flavors. I love that they have Irish-themed flavors, such as the Irish Brown Bread and Dingle Sea Salt. They were delicious and a great way to add an Irish experience onto getting ice cream. I ended up getting the honeycomb caramel and Kieran's cookies.Highly recommend!
Would highly recommend trying this ice cream while you're in Dublin! There was a line out the door, we probably waited for 15 mins. However, it felt like it moved fast because 2 workers were giving out samples while we were waiting. This is something I've never seen, but really appreciated! I tried the famous brown bread ice cream, chocolate whiskey, and sea salt in line. No matter which cone/cup size you get, you can get 2 flavors. I got the caramel and the cookie flavors. They were both delicious! I also dropped one of my scoops on the ground and the worker quickly took my cone to give me a new scoop! The only downside is the price, but it was worth it for the experience and excellent flavors. Big shout out to the workers for the great vibes and music!
First impressions: I came in the cold weather (late October) but was craving some ice cream. The line was long but the service was wonderful because they had one person offering any samples and as many samples as you want to try. I was able to try all the flavors while standing in line and this made the whole experience fun and I knew I picked the best flavor once I got to the front. There even a cute swing and sign for taking pictures. Unfortunately not much seating The Noms: I picked the brown bread flavor and loved it. Very smooth and creamy and the texture from the bits of bread kept it interesting. Since I got to try samples of the entire menu, I knew I wouldn't be disappointed. In Conclusion: 10/10 would recommend!
Murphys is the go to stop for ice cream. Made in Dingle, the ice cream is creamy and delicious. I got the cookies and cream and chocolate medium cone and it was delightful. There is a long line, but while you wait the servers bring out little tastes for you to sample so you're ready when you get to the counter. The place is small and no seats, so expect to take it to go.
Super nice and interactive staff. Line looked long but it went quickly. Flavors were very interesting and authentic. I went for Strawberry and Butterscotch which were very tasty and not artificial. Would be nice if they had some more bar seating but otherwise a cute shop.
Great pleasant and engaging staff. They keep the crowd (yes crowd) moving so efficiently. Unique flavors and surprisingly not overly sweet.
I didn't try Murphy's ice cream until my third visit to Dublin. But on my last night a couple of weeks ago, I had some extra time and I was close by so I decided to finally try it before heading back to my hotel for the night. The line was out the door, but I wasn't in a rush, so I didn't mind. The night was on the warmer side, and there was a beautiful sunset. I did read some reviews while waiting in line, and many people commented on the price and the few flavors. I am of the opinion that if you are a visitor, especially to a capital city, you are going to have to expect to pay higher prices for things. Also, this ice cream is handmade in Dingle, so you're also paying for quality - and I like that there aren't 20 or 30 flavors! We've become too spoiled and overstimulated with choices. Back to the business! The workers, all college-age, I imagine, were very friendly and every once in a while walked down the line offering samples and answering questions. They were extra kind and patient with the children and older people. That means a lot to me. It honestly was the happiest long line I've ever waited in - but I've noticed that about Ireland in general - that's why I keep going back! I ended up getting a small cone with 2 scoops - chocolate whiskey (awesome!!) and brown bread, they were both unique flavors and tasted good. The texture was very creamy. My total was 7.50, I paid 8, and the 0.50 she returned to me I put in the tip jar. The experience and ice cream were worth it to me.
Totally a special place. Ice cream from Dingle. Clean, professional, with multiple of interesting flavors. Must stop for Ice Cream Lovers!
During our guided beer and food tour of Ireland, one of the stops was the Murphy's Ice Cream parlor. So we took a break from beer and food and moved on to our final desert, a cold creamy cup of ice cream, and I wasnt complaining. They offer an optional waffle cone and ice cream sandwiches. This parlor was slammed with customers but we secured a private table for our small group in the back. The twelve flavors looked promising which included Raspberry, Jasmine Green Tea, Mango, Butterscotch, Honeycomb Caramel and a few others. With great anticipation, the server placed a cup of the Dingle Sea Salt mixed with the Irish Brown Bread. The rich creamy ice creams were a perfect combo.
On a rainy summer night just before closing, we were able to sample most of the current flavors and then bought four scoops (two medium cups with two flavors each). I can't back up the claim that they are the best ice cream in Ireland but I can tell you I liked it very much. Clearly made with fresh and high quality ingredients, it's lighter and fluffier than most American ice cream -- less rich and less sweet as well. Honeycomb caramel -- excellent and likely my favorite, the pieces of honeycomb give it a nice crunch Sea salt -- their most popular. Allegedly made from sea water collected at Bín Bán beach in dingle. Also excellent Chocolate Whiskey -- some whiskey ice creams only have a hint of the flavor but this one is quite strong, perhaps even overpowering. Strawberry -- very good. I might call this strawberry cream as it was the creamiest of all I tried Irish Brown Bread -- the first taste was sugary but it grew on me. I wish I had a bit more for final judgement. Mango Sorbet -- the only flavor I can't vouch for. Perhaps on a hot day. Would definitely get Murphys again.
Absolutely loved this cute shop! From the neon and highlighted colors and de or in andnoutside to the wonderful tasting ice-cream. The lady inside was a sweet heart and I went with my usual vanilla ice cream and all color sprinkles. The ice cream here tasted fresher and creamer. It was a true delight.
I love Murphy's! Their flavors are simple but unique, and there's not that many to choose from - meaning they do those few flavors well. We were strolling around the Grafton Street area and passed by Murphy's. It was a Friday, around 3:30. Even though it was busy, and a bit chaotic, the employees still took the time to greet us and even talk to us for a bit. Maybe that's a requirement if you want to work at Murphy's - that you have to be friendly, because we went to the Cork location and they were very nice there as well. Or maybe everyone in Ireland is just nice and I'm just a jaded New Yorker. Anyway, we went with a classic - the Dingle Sea Salt. It was very smooth and clean-tasting. If the ice cream shop was closer to our hotel, we definitely would have went (at least) once a day. So maybe it's a good thing that it wasn't!
Love love love Murphy's. This location is no different from the others, with a friendly staff and basically the same menu. This one does have a couple of tables in the back and a bathroom downstairs, which is good considering how crowded this location gets. Almost every flavor is a hit (I'm not a fan of rhubarb or marmalade, but everyone's different). Again, would recommend Dingle sea salt and honeycomb caramel. Both balance each other very well!
The best ice-cream I've tasted anywhere in the world - and believe me I've tasted a lot of ice cream ! I You can really taste the creaminess and tell that the ingredients are all top notch. There are no artificial colour or flavors just good old fashioned ice cream the way it's meant to be. The staff are super friendly and I love that you can taste as many as you like before committing to your final selection - my two favorites are sea salt and brown bread. The prices aren't cheap but you get what you pay for and are good value all things considered. The small size is perfect for me with two good size scoops. read more

Murphy's knows their craft. They have managed to make ice cream that tastes exactly like brown bread. I do love bread, but I felt a bit too much like Violet Beauregarde in Willy Wonka's factory. Was I going to puff up into a loaf shape and have to go to the kneading room with the Oompa-Loompas? Ha. The staff are great, they happily let you test out various flavors. It was fun trying their unique creations, like Dingle sea salt, but I ended up choosing two classic flavors, done really well. I went with chocolate and butterscotch, and they were really decadent. It must be the cow milk here in Ireland. All their dairy products are so rich and creamy. Happy cows make happy milk. read more
Feeling slight tipsy after a lovely dinner and a lot of red wine I was surprised with dessert here - good call, very good call! To be greeted by an ice cold rainbow of flavoursome joy got me slightly giddy. I kept looking over my shoulder like it was my dirty little secret. I was looking bug-eyed at all the potential taste bud orgasms and didn't want anyone to think that I was a perv. I got the burnt caramel, I had to restrain myself from not trying everything. I especially had to cut myself off from the Guinness ice-cream as that's just dangerous for me. My friend got the salty ice-cream with a side of an espresso... You pour it over it and watch as it sexy-ly melts into a perfect composition of salty, sweet and bitter - an overture to life. Sweet Jesus on a surfboard thank you... They have surfboards in there hence the sacrilegious reference. Go! Tell them that a perv from Yelp Dublin recommended them to you - I dare you, nay double dare you. read more
Walked in for the gin ice cream, walked out smiling because of the gin ice cream. SO GOOD. We went to Murphy's on our trip to Dublin because of seeing it on a TV show and it was a really nice treat on a rainy day. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly and offered us ideas for yummy combinations as well as plenty of samples before picking what we wanted. I'm not sure I'd go as far as saying you have to go here if you're visiting Dublin...I think you can find really good ice cream most places nowadays, but I will say that if you're looking for a sweet treat and it's not too far out of your way, definitely make your way to Murphy's. read more
Oh yes. This is the stuff. Is it wrong to get hot chocolate AND ice cream in one sitting?! IS IT?!! I fly in the face of fear and prejudice! I got that ice cream, I got that hot chocolate, and I ate / drank them in turns, together. Yes, I got a tooth ache, and yes I got a head shock, but it was damn worth it! But ye can't feel guilty. This is a shop with real Irish roots, fresh from Dingle Co.Kerry, with all natural ingredients, none a that nasty stuff. Their strap-line says it all; "Ice cream that knows where it's coming from." Eggs, cream, milk and sugar. Simples. I got the honeycomb flavour. Oh was it delicious. Creamy, sweet, and dare I say, weirdly wholesome?!! With the sea salt flavour. Perfect combo - try it. The hot chocolate was - well, chocolatey, creamy, luxurious. Dear enough though - €4.50. No recession here folks. I've always wanted to try Murphy's ice cream but shied away from the prices of tubs at Fallon & Byrne. Lo and behold, my prayers are answered! Walking in, I was greeted by a kind and patient server who gave me tastes of everything I laid my eyes on. Ended up with two scoops in a small cup: brown bread and Guinness. The flavours were quite mild, and I'm not sure if that was a good or a bad thing. They still tasted very much like ice cream with hints of (or chunks of, in brown bread's case) their flavours. The sea salt that's been getting so much buzz needs to be mixed with something else and I wasn't up for it on that visit, but looking forward to the next time. As I tasted the Guinness, the server told me the hard liquor flavours taste more strongly like their namesakes. Another thing to try later on. Murphy's flavours bridge the line between out-there and comfort. Most are familiar and those that aren't are still tastes you'd like to have, like caramel and Guinness. No hamburger-jalapeno-strawberry sorbet or anything. The music was uber-classy old-school jazz and the place looked warm and inviting on a grey day. There will most certainly be a next time. read more

Popped in here after a delicious meal (cause Anthony Bourdain recommended this spot) . Upon entering you see their flavor options along with some silver pots on their counter, then greeted by one of the servers. They have a wide range of flavors including some of their specialties. They do offer samples if you aren't sure what you want initially. I went with the medium peanut crunch and it was amazing! Caramel drizzle & peanuts accompanied the ice cream. Brother had the chocolate with a small cone and hubby had the sea salt & caramel combo. Since it was later in the evening, there was plenty of open seating. Snagged a spot in the back and enjoy our ice cream. Honestly, some of the most amazing ice cream we've enjoyed on this trip yet! read more

A friend of mine from Dingle actually introduced me to Murphy's and I have very high standards when it comes to ice-cream so an Irish ice-creamary was gonna be a tough sell for me! I have to say that Murphys is way up there with some of the best ice creams I have ever tasted. Its so refreshing to see something a little different in Irish food retail. I had the raspberry sorbet with the brown bread ice-cream which I like to consider a modern interpretation of toast and jam. Heston Bluementhal eat your heart out. I cannot recommend this place enough. The staff are also super friendly and always offering suggestions on weta flavours work well together. The premises itself has a really homely yet modern feel to its decor and its never been super crowded as long as I have been there. read more

I spent 4 days in Dublin and managed to go to Murphy's 3 times. That alone proves how good it is. Even though Dublin was fairly cold for the most part that didn't stop me from wanting ice cream! All of the visits were lots of fun thanks to the amazing employees and the overall environment of the business. The employees were patient and friendly enough to let my friends and me try as many flavors as we wanted as we struck up a conversation with them, which just seemed like old friends catching up. I loved it. Murphy's seems like the place where a lot of college students go to just hang out and have a nice dessert option. There are tons of seats in the back! All of the flavors are great! The sea salt and honeycomb ones were probably my favorites but you really cannot go wrong with any flavor! If you are still hesitant, the employees are more than happy to give you a generous sample. All of the ice cream is made in Ireland with the milk of Kerry cows, which makes the ice cream creamier (and better) than ones I'm used to. Hopefully I can go back to visit Ireland one day and when I do, I will definitely make a stop at Murphy's. read more

I'd like to fancy myself an ice cream expert (well, enthusiast at least) and I can say the ice cream I enjoyed at Murphy's runs with the best I've had anywhere else in the world. They do creative, Irish flavors, like caramelized Irish soda bread and not to be missed of course is the Irish coffee flavor! Little spendy (€4-6 which admittedly seems is generally on par with the gourmet ice cream market these days) but they let you split even the single into two pretty generous apportionments of different flavors. Murphy's takes credit card and is generous with the samples too. read more
Love this place!!There are a lot of ice cream places along Grafton Street but I will go out of my way to return to Murphy's any time I have a craving. I'm definitely an ice cream snob, I only splurge when it's all natural and freshly made, because then you know it's going to be good. It's the best thing ever when ice cream flavors taste like the actual thing, and not some super sweet nod to a flavor. It's a kind of no frills type of place which I really respect, no sprinkles and syrups, just great flavors made from natural ingredients. This ice cream is extra creamy and delicious and what other ice creams want to be when they grow up. First of all, you get all the samples you want. While you wait in line they wouldn't shun you for trying the full stock of flavors, in fact they would probably encourage it. I loved everything I sampled (try the Caramelized Brown Bread, it's not what you'd expect but in a good way!) but particularly the Irish Cream, I love coffee flavored ice cream and this was incredible. The Sea Salt would probably be my second fav. I didn't know what to expect but I love salty sweet and that's exactly what it is! The chocolate was also perfect, a "grown up" chocolate: nice and rich and not overly sweet (none of them are). I can't wait to work my way through all of their flavors, and I have a feeling that will probably happen very soon. The small portion is actually two good-sized scoops and you get to pick two flavors. It's the perfect amount in a crispy and delicious cone, served by super friendly staff wearing newsboy caps; it just doesn't get any better! read more

I made the mistake of going here on my birthday.. a mistake, because, this place deserves ALL OF THE MONEY (and birthdays = free?!) I went here on my second visit to Dublin. One thing I learned from my first visit was that I LOVE Irish dairy. So great, real Irish ice cream was kind of a no-brainer the second time around. It's run by really friendly, genuinely good people - Sean had me trying lots of flavors and then picked a few for me when I couldn't decide for myself! The sea salt ice cream really is amazing, try it! Also loved the honeycomb and chocolate. read more

Yummy! :) I got to try lots of flavors, since I had never tried Murphy's before, and all the flavors I tried were delicious! (Kieran's cookies, Irish Coffee, Butterscotch, Carmelised Brown Bread and Sea Salt), but I settled on a small sea salt + brown bread. When I first heard about the sea salt, I thought it was very strange, but I really wanted to try it. It's not salty, rather you taste the flavor of the salt. The brown bread bits are not sweet nor crunchy, but give a different texture to the smooth ice cream. I'll definitely stop by Murphy's again, although I give them 4 stars due to the high price (€4.50 for a small). read more

Got the Irish coffee with Kieran's cookies and it was delicious. The staff were super friendly and the taste samples are a great idea. Everyone in the place were cheerful and there was a nice atmosphere. I also got a latte which was fantastic, better than most Starbucks lattes I've had and reasonably priced. The back of the parlour had seats and mini connect four games to keep you entertained during your meal. Overall fantastic and will go again. read more

Homemade ice cream. Yes, ice cream is awesome. Yes, Murphy's ice cream is solid. No, just because you make an average product that is typically awesome does not automatically earn you four or five stars. They have a good selection and the ice cream is on par with your average run-of-the-mill ice creams stateside. You'll enjoy your dessert from Murphy's, but no need to pump up the rating for that reason alone, wouldn't you agree? read more
This place truly is the "cough" cream of the crop when it comes to delicious ice cream for Dublin. It really is as good as anywhere I've tasted it abroad and better than most. My other half and I went for a combo of caramel honeycomb and Irish coffee (with whiskey!!) sooooo goooooood. The milky creaminess really comes through. The service is also excellent with tastings offered by one of the employees going up and down the queue. Sweet :) read more
Black Currant sorbet. Go and try it, right now!!! I was going to leave my review at that because that sorbet was like the Beyoncé of all sorbets, but I'll give you a little bit more about this amazing place ;) The staff at Murphy's were so sweet and all had a smile on their face - having them serve the ice cream made the experience that much better. Their 2 dairy free options were black currant and raspberry, and they really knocked the black currant out of the water. The raspberry was good too, but the black currant was the definite favourite with the flavour being so unique and fresh. I can't recommend this refreshing treat enough. Their location in the Dublin City centre is also great- there are seats for people to enjoy their treat at the back and their doors open the entire width of the entrance, making the space very inviting to customers. They also have adorable merchandise such as pens and notebooks sold inside! Overall, Murphy's ice cream is a definite hit, and I will most definitely return whenever I return to Ireland :) read more

Still so stuffed from dinner, I couldn't pass up some artisan ice cream from Murphy's. We sampled a few flavors, and I asked a question about the Sticky Toffee Pudding sundae...and the guy at the counter proceeded to make me a tiny sundae. It was the cutest thing ever, complete with a tiny dollop of flavored whipped cream! We ended up with this sundae with Honeycomb Caramel. read more

HANDS DOWN THE BEST ICE CREAM I'VE EVER HAD and some REALLY interesting flavors as well. You are allowed to basically try all their 8 - 10 flavors and their workers are so friendly and actually come around asking you to try specific flavors! I tried pretty much all of them and let me say I love each and every one of them. From the Sea Salt Caramel to the Honeycomb to the flowery one (can't remember which flavor this was) to the Irish Coffee, the Cookie, and my FAVORITE THE BROWN BREAD. Sounds weird but it is DELICIOUS-- perfectly creamy and almost like a more tasty vanilla ice cream with little bread crumbs inside which hits the spot. It's a little like eating graham cracker flavored ice cream with little cracker bits in every single bit. To die for. I want a luggage full of this stuff! read more

I don't like most ice cream but Murphy's is a clear exception. The toasted irish oat ice cream, oh how I wish I could have taken a tub of that back with me to London! The honeycomb ice cream was also delicious as it was not overly sweet. Something about this ice cream was just....different to anything I have tasted in London or the States, and by that I mean this was way better. Must be the Kerry cow milk or the ingredients they use for the flavours. What ever it is it's damn good! Staff are super friendly and let you try samples before deciding what to order. I recommend getting two scoops to get two different flavours. Personally, two scoops was also the perfect amount as an after dinner snack. Creamy, soft, delicious - I can say for a fact this is definitely the best ice cream I've ever had. read more

Me and my sister stopped here while on vacation in March 2011...I know I am just NOW getting around to reviewing it. They have the best ice cream and we still talk about how amazing it is. 1st off, I have a major lactose intolerance and so I chose to get a scoop of the Irish Cream and the Raspberry Sorbet. This combo was so delicious and it didn't even make my stomach upset. I think it is because our milk in the US is so processed, that I only have this problem here. I also like how they change up the flavor, for the season. I can't wait to get back to Ireland for the beautiful scenery, friendly people and Murphy's! read more
They have varying options you can have scoops in small tub a bigger tub or in a cone, I went with the small tub , rum & raisin flavour & raspberry sorbet flavour. Both were tasty. My friend got the Mango sorbet and I had a taste , that was delicious! I'll have that next time! I felt I didn't get get a lot of ice cream for your money's worth, the 2 scoops aren't very big, but it was tasty ;) I think I paid 3.50 for small tub. The guy serving was friendly, smiley and helpful which is always nice! read more
Been here a few times and I'm a big fan of there ice cream. The flavours change on a fairly regular basis and they have some Irish inspired flavours in the mix (I love the brown bread ice cream). It is on the pricey side, however the servings are quite big and I find the small size more than enough. read more
The first sign of sunshine and it was suggested that we have an icecream. I have never had ice cream from here so thought OK let's give it a try. I had the rum and raisin, creamy, rum spice and no ice crystals that you sometimes gets. I couldn't fault it. The brown bread ice cream is not really my thing but it was nice and you could taste the crumbs of brown bread mixed though. We took a seat at the back which I hadn't noticed before. What more to say, great ice cream, Irish business, good ingredients and nice friendly staff with a heavy sprinkling of diddly da music in the background least you forget you were in Ireland. read more
You can get GREAT Irish made ice cream here. We've been here twice and each time I've had the Caramelised brown bread ice cream. It's yum!!! This isn't too far from Grafton St and you'll find on sunny days that the queue for Ginos is crazy and its worth taking a walk up the side of Brown Thomas to this spot instead. The sea salt ice cream is also lovely. To top it off there's a spot at the back of counter to sit and enjoy your ice cream :) read more
