This is a rather new festival to Murphys, so it has not yet reached it's full potential, but boy…read moredoes it have the potential!! This fun new festival is being spear-headed by one of the local wineries with many of the Main St. business' participating by way of setting up alters in their shops. (the book store had one to Shakespeare etc. etc.) Many people participate in the Catrina/Catrin costume contest held mid-day at the local theater (so cool to see them all walking around town all day!!) and in the evening they do a procession to a local cemetery to honor the dead. And there are usually a few different places to listen to live music, this year I've heard they'll be having a great mariachi band! It is always fun to walk around Murphys eating and drinking your way through the day, and this event just makes it that much more fun and interesting! So if you are planning on coming to Murphys around the beginning of November (it's held the first weekend usually, check their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/DiaDeLosMurtosMurphysCalifornia) then come for this event, and maybe even join in the costume contest!

You will not find master works for thousands of dollars here, but a good selection of oils, water colors, ceramics and other eclectic stuff to choose a great memory of Murphys and/or the Mother Lode scene. Probably the biggest sellers are the note cards, all custom made, and the jewelry. But if you want to painting for you wall at home, you can find that here too.

Fortunately we were able to get in without a reservation on this busy Saturday, the friendly host cleaned off our table and got us situated. The grounds are really nice with picnic tables, umbrellas, lots of shade and even little wicker sofas. They've done a really great job adapting to these Covid times. Wine tasting is $15 per person which is kind of high from the last time I was here but they probably need to make up some deficit after lockdown. Anyway, the four of us did a wine tasting flight of 5 different wines plus a few tastes of their special ones. When I do wine tasting, it's very rare that I end up liking all of the wines but I seriously loved every single wine that Hovey had. My favorites were both end of the spectrum...a light criso viognier and their petite Syrah. Both were like summer and winter in my mouth! We ended up buying the viognier since it still feels like summer! Our hostess was great and explained the taste and background on each tasting, she was very knowledgeable and friendly. Murphy's is about an hour and a half from home but I might consider doing a membership here because I loved both their whites and reds which is rare. We all left feeling a little happier than when we got there! I will most definitely be back!

Outside surrounding the space you'll find picnic tables and other seating scattered about. The day I visited it was a bit chilly and they even had blankets placed around to help keep us warm. Such a nice touch that went a long way. I didn't spend much time inside except for when I went to the bathroom, but it was nice and cozy, too. This place is family owned and operated, and of course, everyone is extremely knowledgeable about their wine, where it comes from, and all that stuff. My friends and I got flights, so we could try a little bit of everything. Each new wine our waitress poured came with a back story and I loved it. All of the wine we tried was great and I can't remember exactly what they were, but my favorites were the white wines, I know that. While they don't have food, we were welcome to bring food from outside so we grabbed a few pizzas from down the street to munch on while we were there. I'm not from the area, but I do visit every so often and I can totally see myself returning whenever that day comes.

Since neither my friend nor I have been here, we decided to come early. There was no traffic and parking was of ease. Even exiting the venue was with ease. I have read some of the other reviews, and possibly this was a much small crowd, but I thought this place was great. It's not too small and not too big. Best yet, free parking!!! It's nested in a cute little town that you should definitely stay overnight and explore. The food selection could be better (stay away from the teriyaki bowl) but, the place was perfect. I feel like you could have sat anywhere and you still get a great view of the stage. The sound system was great. We had a really good time.

The patio and grounds were transformed into a setting perfect for a French fete, complete with a faux guillotine for photo opps. The food was delicious. Authentic French cheeses, baguettes, escargot, pate, salads, meats and frittes. Yummy! And of course what French celebration would be complete without some delicious vino! Ooh la la! After everyone had devoured the delicious food, the entertainment began. Music and dancing put the top on an already lovely evening. All of the guests seemed to have a fabulous time thanks to the hospitality of our hosts Jonathon and Jeannine. Food, wine and good company. What more could you ask for? A la votre!

It was a fantastic tasting we tasted a lot of different wines and bought several. The quality is good here better than most Murphys wineries and we have tasted quite a few however you will pay a premium they are bit pricey as well.
