Cameo Gallery has some wicked glass art. I love the shapes of the pieces. Many of them remind me of…read moreswans. They also have these large vases with long, pointy-sphered tips. The colors are stunning. This is craftsmanship at its finest. I'm amazed at the delicate, intricate, imaginative shapes that take place here. Cameo has other art like bronze sculptures and framed prints, but it's really all about the glass. They have vases, platters, paperweights, jewelry, etc. You need to see this place to believe it. Prices are high, so I mainly go in just to look at what's new and get my own creative juices flowing. They don't really mind that kind of thing. If you go, be sure to go upstairs too. There's a tiny, spiral staircase near the back that I didn't even notice the first few times I visited. I must have been too busy drooling over the glass sculptures in the front window. That reminds me, there are large windows on either side of this corner shop; they light up the gallery to show the pieces better, and they're great for window shopping. Usually there's just one consultant in the shop, but if you go on a Gallery Hop night, you'll find lots of workers there.

I mean, god I don't know…read more There are these glass sculptures that look like primordial sea creatures, but more perfect than anything that evolution could ever manifest. Too amazing for me to even consider wanting. Besides the 3 to 4 thousand dollar price tags, I simply don't deserve them. It's like seeing a 500 year old Redwood and wanting to take it home with you. No, it's more perfect in the forest. I spoke for a bit with Shawn, the guy behind the counter. He said a good portion of the offerings are from local artists (including the sculptures I was most impressed by). The jewelry in the front case is primarily made by a local teacher, and it's professional grade stuff. Cameo is definitely worth a stop.

The outside of the building is painted with gorgeous mural artwork that I wish I had snapped a photo of! It's worth going even to see the outside. The exhibition itself was incredible and the performances by local circus artists was a great touch. I was extremely impressed by the amount of carnival-style decor that the staff was able to fit into the one room gallery, which also featured a corner bar serving some of your favorite fair food snacks to match the theme. Though the space is super small, the staff and curator clearly go above and beyond to make it a memorable experience to visit. I look forward to coming back in the future for another exhibition and to see what the space looks like in a different theme.

Tonight, for example, we attended a dinner and wine pairing to celebrate a precious gemstones artisan and it was exquisite. The pieces of jewelry had great range, unique design and depth. It was interesting to learn about her inspiration for the pieces, how she sources the stones/materials and the process to create them. There is validated parking in the rear, street parking and nearby garages in terms of parking. The gallery is amongst other galleries, bars, restaurants, and Goodale Park.

One of my favorite shows possibly ever in Columbus just ended at Sherrie Gallerie. I walked past one day to see these horridly fascinating human heads. In no time, I was inside, standing face-to-face with the creatures and studying the precision and craftsmanship of their teeth and skin. The heads, created by 'ceramicist' Tom Bartel, were dually nightmarish and comical. I have since become a huge fan of his macabre style. That's the beauty of Sherrie Gallerie. Sherrie brings the best work to Columbus, and people leave the gallery with curiosity. Sherrie leaves you wanting more. It's fantastic! Another awesome show from mid-summer: Problems in Sailing by John Balistreri. Seriously people, if you're the least bit into ceramics, check this place out. Balistreri had these huge pieces in the windows. They looked like planes that had crashed into the gallery floor. Oh, and the most alluring show of them all was a couple years ago. Sherrie had crayon installations by Christian Faur. They were large scale, and the premise was similar to that of a Lite-Brite but with a tinge of Holocaust sadness. The Christian Faur show was my deciding factor; right then, I knew I needed to move to Columbus.

We have a couple of train fans in our family, so when we heard the latest exhibit at Dublin Arts…read morewas "Train Interpretations" by Frederick Ripley, we decided to stop by. By chance, we lucked out and visited while the artist himself was onsite. The staff were so friendly, greeting us as soon as we stepped inside and advised that the exhibit was set up on the first floor in a loop. The building is a former home and is quite lovely on its own, and then the council has done a great job organizing their exhibits to complement the building and make it easy to move around. We enjoyed looking at the wide variety of train photos from all around the country, and getting to chat with the artist was nice - he was great with kids too and had a little game for them to find where the photo on his business card was in the gallery. Outside, the grounds are beautiful too and the backyard goes down to the river. There's a nice parking lot available outside and admission is free. We will have to watch for future exhibits!

Very cool gallery!…read more It's unassuming and located in a very random area of town. I heard about this gallery through Instagram and started following them on Facebook. They have exhibitions all the time and all sorts of events. It's not a big space. It's really just one big room and it will take you maybe 30 minutes to look and analyze all the art. You can still socialize here though. The artist seems to bring people they know. I saw young adults and a few people who are middle age. Someone brought their dog. There was also wine and beer. They take donations to run the place. Wish I had had some cash with me! It's street parking, but it's not busy over here. Still, it's such a cool thing to do and not a popular place quite yet. It's for hipsters and I love it!

Kathryn Gallery is a very high end gallery that features American artists but prides itself on its…read moreinternational artist collection. I've found a lot of Spanish art here and even some Israeli art. One of Kathryn's signature artists is Jaline Pol, a well-cultured French artist. She paints big, globby flowers. She's really good. I don't think she uses any brushes, just a palette knife. I saw her stuff in another high end gallery on a recent Chicago trip. I recognized her immediately. That's one of the key requirements of great art: a recognizable style. Her color palette is also very bright and upbeat. Most of the pieces at Kathryn Gallery are landscape oils. But there are also sculptures. The sculptures tend to have a circular-motion feel, if that makes sense. Even the stickman types are bending into a sphere, making them appear voluminous. For nearly a year, Kathryn Gallery has also been showing these vibrant swirled pitchers that look like something you'd see in Fantasia. They have leaves and lily pistils placed in offbeat places. I don't know what you'd do with something like that, but they're fun to look at for a few minutes while you're visiting. I love Kathryn Gallery's location. It's at the south end of the district near a bunch of other galleries. It's on a corner, so it has all these display windows that are very alluring from the outside, but they also provide a bunch of natural light inside the gallery. I do wish the art changed more rapidly. Sometimes they have the same stuff in there for what seems like months. They don't have exhibits like, say OAL. But they do put pieces in the closet and bring them back out six months later. They do, of course, also get new stock. If you go, I have two suggestions. One, fill your pockets with some of the chocolate from the candy dish near the entrance. Two, go all the way to the back under the exit sign; there's a closet/hallway back there filled with more art.

The Ohio Art League is another of my favorite galleries in Columbus. When I first moved here, I…read morereally wanted to work there. OAL is a non-profit gallery that hosts a new exhibit each month. The content is always varied and fresh in every sense of the word. The art here has a new perspective. I think they feature a lot of young visionaries. OAL is great at organizing Ohio Artists. They have a huge roster of members, and they send them tons of information about exhibition opportunities. If you're in need of an artist or artists, you can link up with OAL too. OAL's big fundraiser of the year is a silent auction/party called One Night. It just happened in early October. I agree with Michael U. One of the best shows this year was the Saints, Sinners, Kings, and Criminals. There were all these neon colored painting of recognizable faces like Michael Jackson, Alf, and Queen Elizabeth. Each piece captured the imperfections of its subject. It was fantastic. Another cool and recent exhibition was Empirical Phenomena. The pieces looked like 3D graffiti art. On Hop nights OAL has wine, cheese, and other finger foods. The gallery is always packed on Hops. If you want a more intimate escape, stop by on a week day; you'll have the place to yourself. The gallery worker's area is behind one of the gallery's walls, so you don't feel like anyone is watching you either, which is my main peeve with docents. I can't wait to see what's coming down the pipe.

I've seen two exhibits here. The first was a blown glass exhibit by Matt McCormick. Excellent work, and his glass blown drums that light up when played sent me into a spiral of new ideas. The second was the present exhibit, Glimpse by Brian Duran and Tina Matthews. Again, excellent work that inspired me with a new approach. The work is predominantly young and fresh, the gallery itself is developed to support evolving young artists.
