This is quick to tour, taking no more than 1/2 hour. Casa Montejo is endowed by Banamex Bank. Admission is free, though you gotta check your bag at the entrance and sign in. As is typical with the other museums in Merida, the security guards will monitor your every move, even if you are just scratching your nose. Casa Montejo is the preserved/restored home of the 16th/17th Century Montejo family from Spain. Very elegant to lay your eyes upon, as long as you don't think about how rotten the Montejo family, in their pursuit of wealth, treated the indigenous people of the Yucatan.

Nonetheless, if you love history or archeology, this is a must see museum in Merida. At times the museum allows private events, and we were able to attend a reception during a private event. We enjoyed live classical music while we sipped wine on the upper terrace on a beautiful February evening. If you are able to attend a private event at the museum, do so!
