The flamenco performance here was a highlight of my time in Sevilla. I spent a week in the city, and I went to the performance my last evening in town. There were two one hour offerings--5pm and 7pm. I chose the former as I was hoping to enjoy one last evening walk around the city. The music was rhythmic, the dancing was entrancing, and the dance attire was beautiful. The performance space is quite intimate (roughly 75 seats on 3 sides of the stage), and drinks are available for purchase prior to the performance. There was no audience participation component--thank goodness. Check out the gift shop on your way out; there are a number of good finds here. read more

It has been a childhood dream of mine to see a Flamenco dance and what better place than Seville, Spain where this beautiful art form took root. There are so many places in Seville that offer Flamenco demonstrations that it was hard to know which one to choose. After extensive research, I choose the Museo del Baile Flamenco. I liked that they supported the art form, and I was also interested in seeing the items in the museum. The beautiful performance definitely didn't disappoint. If you plan to watch any flamenco show in Sevilla, I highly recommend this one! The show was a little over an hour long and had fantastic dancers, singers & guitarist. This was my first time seeing flamenco dancing live and it did not disappoint! If you are sensitive to loud noises, I'd recommend bringing ear plugs because the tapping/stomping is loud; you can really feel all the emotions and energy they put into the dancing. The night I went there were two gentleman and one woman flamenco dancers. First time I really saw male flamenco dancers, so it was a really nice surprise and amazing to watch! Shows are likely to be different depending on when and what time you go. Highly recommend checking this place out!!! read more

What an amazing experience being able to watch a flamenco show in Spain! Located in the Museo del Baile Flamenco is an intimate room where a flamenco show is held every day. It's a small room and thought that arriving 30 mins early would get us seats right up front, but we ended up sitting towards the back. Nevertheless, it was still a wonderful experience to see the dancing and signing and guitar playing. Photos are not allowed during the performance to preserve the integren of the show and performers. Awesome place to watch a flamenco show. The stage is close to the audience and you should arrive early if you want to get a seat in the middle of the theater as seating is first come first served. There are columns in the theater as other Yelpers have mentioned. You can feel the music and the dance as the singers and dancers perform and there is genuine emotion and passion being conveyed throughout the performance. Highly recommend visiting here for an authentic flamenco dance experience (it was also recommended by our air bnb host). The show itself is an hour, and was composed of 6 dances to represent different feelings. My favorite was joy, which combined the powerful dancing with utilizing clothing to showcase a bird's flight, but really all of the dances were spectacular. Two tips: 1) Come 45 minutes or an hour earlier than the show to snag your seats, as it is first come first serve and all the seats are on the same level. You want to be at the front to see the dancers' feet. We arrived 40 minutes earlier and were seated in the second row. There is a bar so you can have a drink while you wait. 2) Make sure to get the combo ticket, which allows you to experience the museum as well so you get a fuller understanding and experience of flamenco dance as well as dancers. read more

Excellent, authentic and entertaining flamenco show in Seville. Our Airbnb host recommended this place and offered to make us a reservation. I really wanted to see flamenco while in Spain, so we were very excited for this. Our reservation was for 8:45, but we arrived at 8:10 per others suggestion. There were already a few people in line. At 8:15 they let us in and we ended up being in 2nd row which still allowed for a great view. There is a small bar open for drinks before the show starts. Once the show began, so did the magic. The dancers, guitarist and singers were so full of passion and energy, it could be felt throughout the whole room. The show was truly authentic, showcasing many different styles of flamenco and did not feel like a tacky tourist trap. Simply stated, if you are in Seville, you cannot miss a show here! read more

You have to watch a Flamenco dance while you are in Spain to complete your trip. There were multiple places offering Flamenco dances while we were in Seville but we thought that the museum was our best bet. It was. Full of energy, dances were strong and music was amazing. Amongst all the options, the price for the show at the museum was the most reasonable. Also, do go to a tourist info center and they will likely have a discount coupon for the Flamenco dance show at the museum. Do get there about 20 mins before the show starts so that you get to pick your seat closest to the stage. We arrived about 10 mins before showtime and sat at the back, which wasn't optimal as the foot work of the Flamenco dance was terrific. read more

We needed to see a Flemenco show that was open to all ages and most of the ones we found around town were for ages 7 and up. This location, being a museum by day, allowed all ages. You have the option to purchase a combination ticket, which allow you access to the museum along with the show. We opted for tickets just to the show. They take reservations and we did not have one, but they always have some tickets available for walk-ups. The interior theatre is cozy and general first come, first served seating applies. There really isn't a bad seat, except that there are columns in the room that are structural and do block your view sometimes depending on where the artists are on stage. That is one of the reasons this isn't a 5 star review. Otherwise, the show was great and didn't last too long (1 hour). The artists were so passionate and very talented. There were dance solos, music solos, and combinations of both. A great cultural experience! read more

This review is for their Flamenco show: My husband and I came here on our first night in Sevilla. We were told this is the best place to see a Flamenco show - and trust me it was true! The performers were amazing! From the dancers, to the singers, and to the guitarist. Despite not understanding a word, you can follow along in the passion of the singer and dancer to grasp the tone of the performance at that moment. The show lasts about an hour. Here are some things to keep in mind: 1. The seats are first come, first served so get here early! I got in about 15 minutes before and was unable to find seats in the front. Come earlier for a good seat and enjoy their bar! The thing is the farther back you sit, you cannot see the beautiful foot work of the dancers, not to mention that someone's head might be in your way! (since the seats are all on the same level). 2. They ask you for no photo or video and they do enforce this rule. 3. There is a gift shop onsite. 4. The setting is somewhat like a movie theatre - they turn off the lights so all the lights are pointing towards the stage. For this reason, I would not recommend this for families that have super young children who cannot sit still. I highly recommend this show and hope everyone that goes enjoys it as much as I did! Wow! So much emotion. And, in a beautiful place. Avalanche of controlled chaos, love, snarl, lust, extreme sadness and loss, pain and sweat. These are the emotions that swirled through my head as I watched the balance of music, dance and song. My first introduction to Flamenco. I think I'm hooked. I would gladly go to another one. If you sit in the front row, you may have to tolerate some flinging sweat. No joke, these dudes get their juices going! If you are adverse to torrents of sweat on your face and possibly spectacles, you may want to sit a couple of rows back. There is a bar that you can get a beverage in while you watch this art imitating life on stage. One last bit, the place could use some better ventilation or air conditioning. I know, the place is very old. But, I was sweating my tentacles off! I said tentacles. read more

Fearful of mass tourist flamenco and low quality dinner theatre type food this was the resolution. What an awesome choice it was. Intimate seating, sangria pre-show, and an amazing museum to peruse as well. There's even an awesome gift shop with quality art and some souvenir items but for the most part even though tourists come here it is a place for those interested in the dance as an art form. I'd be shocked if a better experience can be found in the mosh of flamenco attractions in town. read more

The museum is mainly on the 1st floor, with a good interactive exhibit about the schools of dance, types of dance, etc. Otherwise there were some sketches and costumes in the rest of the museum, but it is pretty small overall. The evening shows are excellent. They have 2 female dancers, 1 male dancer, 1 guitarist and a female and male singer. The dancing was excellent, with costume changes for every song. The guitar was delicate and expert, the singers were both excellent as well. Sad it is only an hour. Costs 20 euros, but worth it. Reserve in advance, especially for the late show. The museum is 4 euros extra per person if you have a ticket for the show, and they last allow people in at 6:30p. read more

good flamenco shows that are consistent... however, I rented an apartment close to the Museo de Baile Flamenco to take some of their many classes they have listed on their website. When I arrived to get more info on the classes, the museum employees told me something different every time, and it turns out that all their general classes are closed, and that I could only take one intermediate/advanced class that was basically advanced. very disappointed in this place. If you are coming to Sevilla for flamenco, do not rely on this place to have any classes you can take. i had to walk 2 km in either direction to go to other flamenco studios. not impressed. their website should be much clearer in that the classes they have are private. read more

With so many choices, we decided to go with an institution. Proceeds will help maintain museum and continue to educate the young with its programs. With only 4 performers, they put on a very exhilarating performance which showcased the passion and commitment of the performers to this art form. In an intimate setting, no matter where you sit, you will have a great view of the stage, although the open seating system got a bit chaotic with no guidance from staff. Bar is open for some yummy sangrias and drinks prior to show and during brief intermission. Ticket to the show includes entrance to the small but informative museum. Beware: those sitting near the stage may get splashed by dancer's perspiration!! As I was forewarned, I sat in the fourth row back and the splash just missed me. read more

Before even stepping foot in the museum reception, you are already welcomed by faint flamenco rhythms and the sound 'pa-tah, pa-tah, pa-tah'. On the way to the museum (it's located on the 1st floor), you pass the light and airy patio where top-notch performances take place every evening. It was from here that the sounds of taconeo were being produced, although not in the form of a spectacular show on the centre stage, but basic steps from flamenco fledglings in the glass-paned dance studio. Visitors are encouraged to take a pew and observe, attempt to comprehend the complexity involved with mastering this art form, so that they are able to really appreciate how long it took the novice to perfect just one step when watching the professional show. The museum itself is relatively new, and was inaugurated in 2006, born of the initiative of Cristina Hoyos, an acclaimed Sevillana flamenco dancer and actress, who has had a great influence on the rise of this artform. She wanted to bring flamenco dance closer to the world, to make people understand that it is one of the three fundamental pillars that support flamenco: the other two being cante (singing) and toque (guitar playing). Only in 2010 that flamenco was declared as being of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, and Crisitina Hoyos and this wonderful museum may have had something to do with that! This is the only museum in the world, to date, to solely be dedicated to flamenco dance. It provides a perfect introduction for any visitor to this magical world (or for Andalusian visitors to be reminded of its beginnings). The first floor of the Museo del Baile Flamenco uses a hands-on high tech approach to explaining the origins, (i.e., where castanets, hand or hip movements were from) and the variety of palos (flamenco styles), through videos and interactive screens, available in many languages (English, Spanish, German, French, Chinese and Japanese). Flamenco is an emotive dance, and depending on the palo different feelings can be portrayed: these videos perfectly demonstrate this with buzz words flashing up alongside. Furthermore, visitors can read more information, listen and watch using the touch-screen displays. This floor also describes how flamenco came into the spotlight, both in Spain and in the rest of the world. You can stand under the 'sound showers' and experience a sensory overload: hear flamenco melodies, see footage from years bygone - when flamenco started to take centre stage - and read famous flamenco quotes from flamenco-inspired works such as Carmen. Another room puts flamenco costume in the spotlight, using interactive screens to explain where different items came from and how they were incorporated into dance. Last but not least on this floor, is a room consisting entirely of video walls, showing a performance choreographed specifically for the museum by Cristina Hoyos. The museum also has an impressive photography and art collection, including images of Cristina Hoyo and her dance company, reminiscing of their 'golden years'. Contemporary art works from up-and-coming Spanish and international artists bring the art to the modern day. The exhibition rooms, as well as the well-preserved 18th century basement, are also used for percussion lessons and can be hired out for private events or conferences. After discovering so much about the art of flamenco, it really made me appreciate the amazing live performance that same the evening. Four artists: two bailaores dancers (Lola Jaramillo and Jesús Herrera), a tocaor guitarist (Andrés Martínez) and a cantaor singer (Trini) took to the stage to bring to life all that was learnt from the museum. Here though, you could feel the flamenco and understand the emotions involved in the various palos. You could feel the vibration from the taconazos on the wooden tablao, and the swish of air as the train from Lola's traje swished inches past your face. Experience the joyfulness of bulerías and heart-felt wails of a saeta. I had seen many shows in free bars, the Bienal and touristy tabloas and I can guarantee that this show will remain present in my memory for much time to come. All of the performers stood out for me, but never had I seen a bailaora with such stage presence - maybe because I had never seen one master dancing with a mantoncillo and long-trained traje - it was astonishing. How could we not go to the flamenco museum near our lodgings when we came to Seville to learn to dance flamenco? Overall, the museum is okay. They do a good job of presenting everything in multiple languages. It's only moderately kid friendly, and of a medium size. Put this museum on your list of stops, just not very high. And if you're not interest in flamenco, just skip it. If you are traveling without kids, you'll probably enjoy it a little more than I did. The gift shop was actually pretty good, and they don't close for siesta. read more

Attended the smaller intimate show presented in the downstairs space and all I can say is flippin' fantastic!! 3 dancers 2 singers and 1 guitarist (all acoustic). The dancers were definitely athletes...barely broke a sweat during their physically intense performance. Beautiful and artistic. My husband said it was like a Spanish version of opera. This is not a tourist trap and having attended another show the next night in Granada I have the extreme opposite with which to compare. Highly recommend. Arrive early so you can sit in the front row, but with seating for ~30 guests there isn't a bad seat. I would go again. read more
