Really convenient little museum.
My boyfriend and I were walking along the Malecon and it started to rain and we noticed these old cannons outside a building reading "Museo Naval" so we ran inside.
The guys at the front were dressed in their navy uniforms and spoke both Spanish and English. Explained that there were two floors, the price of admission (45 pesos or US$2.60) and hey discount it further if you're in the service, a teacher, or student. How crazy is that?
For such a small museum and for such cheap tickets, it has a lot to offer. Your classic relics from battleships, armor, weapons, 3D models, and religious artifacts. As well as computer cartoon videos on screens for kids to get explainations on historical events. There's also Spanish and English info under all of the exhibits.
There's a couple pretty cute rooms for example, the night sky room where you get some facts about how the navel men used to navigate using he stars, lights and projections light up this room (pictures below)
Then right beyond this room is a little theatre where projections of fish and sailors are fighting the ocean (you can walk around the back to pop your head in and interact with the stage)
Then upstairs there's a huge VR game where you drive a boat in several different weather conditions. Pretty fun and totally free.
There's no gift shop which was a bummer (and also leaves me confused on how they make money) but from the people walking around it looks like it's taken care of by actual navel officers.
Really cool find! read more
