After putting my saxophone down for 36 years (yeah that's right), I've regained interest in playing it again. Yup, still the exact saxophone I played back in 1990. It was already considered vintage back then, but a good instrument, like one's body and mind, maintained and repaired, will last a very long time. Dropped off my sax for a tuneup and pad replacement where needed today, and their turn-around time is 14-days. You can pre-authorize a charge limit, and if any repairs will exceed that amount they will call you to discuss. What's also good, is that they'll inspect it first before performing any work and let you know if the instrument is worth the cost of repairs or not. Predatory Scam - Stay Away! Signed up for lessons, got billed for services I never received. No lessons, no communication, just automatic charges to my card. Tried to cancel-- they ignored it and kept billing, then tried doubling the amount after cancellation. And this was four months ago... This is straight-up fraudulent and predatory. Do NOT come here and do not give them your credit card info or sign any contract. I've filed complaints with the FTC and CFPB. read more

I strongly advise against enrolling at Music & Arts. The front office is extremely disorganized and consistently fails at basic scheduling and billing management. On multiple occasions, lessons were canceled because the teacher was sick or on vacation, yet there was no advance notice provided. Despite not receiving services I had already paid for, I was still charged. The explanations from the front desk are rarely professional or business-oriented. Instead of clear solutions, they offer personal excuses and justifications that do not resolve the actual issue: inaccurate billing and lack of accountability. The most serious problem occurred when I was charged for two full months of lessons that never took place after a teacher left. I was repeatedly told--over the course of another month--that a refund would be issued. It never happened. I ultimately disputed the charges with my credit card company, provided documentation, and the dispute was ruled in my favor. Despite this, Music & Arts re-billed me again for the full amount that had been credited back, without resolution or communication. This pattern reflects poor internal controls, unreliable billing practices, and a lack of respect for customers' time and money. I would not recommend this institution to anyone looking for a professionally run music education program. read more

I previously wrote an unfavorable review of this store, so it's only right that I submit a new review after an experience that was the opposite of the last! I'd decided to return to the store solely due to convenience and because I knew what I wanted and could probably choose it without any help, expecting none based on the last visit. Well, I had hardly stepped into the store before an employee named Thaddeus looked up and greeted me enthusiastically, asking immediately if I was looking for anything specific. He then took me over to the right display, pointed out the different options, explained how they worked, shared his own experience with the product, and answered all my questions. All with plenty of positive energy! Not sure I'm a convert, but if I do have to go back and I see Thaddeus there, I know I'll be well taken care of! read more

This is a complaint about their billing department. I'm honestly too exhausted to provide every detail but the short version is their billing department needs a serious overhaul. Their customer service reps aren't on the same page. Each rep tells you a different thing. The credit card that I used to pay the monthly charge was hacked and I had a new card reissued. Of course this coincided with the billing date and a payment was unable to be processed even though I called to alert them and provide the new number. No phone call was received from them. The first notice I get is from their collections department. Yes, collections. I spoke to someone and they said they would reverse the late fees as a result of the situation and my attempts to inform. A month later, I discover "there are no notes in our system about this", you still owe these fees and your account is delinquent. I just wanted a zero balance at this point and had given up trying to get anything from them so I paid in full. Lastly, the last day of my daughters school year was 6/13 and my billing date was 6/10. I explained I would return the violin on 6/14 and they informed me that was ok because there was a 4 day grace period. Guess what? I return the violin and June's charge was on my account. I call and they say it's a 3 day grace period and "there are no notes that you were told a 4 day grace period". So I guess now I'm a liar. Ok. They say they will request a credit but can't guarantee. They never called me back to inform me of the status. I just called again and the lady cut me off and said "there is no grace period". I asked if I could please finish explaining so she was up to speed and she said "you can call back" and hung up. My daughter will need an instrument in the next few years and I will NEVER EVER EVER use Music & Arts. read more

I started learning the cello last year, and as inspiration to start playing again was looking for a new copy of "Suzuki for Cello, Volume I." The person on the phone actually checked the stock and let me know that there was one copy left, which he'd hold until I could get there this evening. Super nice, right? When I got there, it was ready at the desk and the checkout person was -- again -- super nice! But the best part was their store bag, which says, "MUSIC IS WHAT FEELINGS SOUND LIKE." I'm a novice guitarist but they really don't sound like they know what they are talking about. Setup's don't do anything for the guitar? What?? I came into the store looking for advice on strings for beginners that would work well on my guitar but would not need me to do a guitar setup (I already had the action adjusted for the current strings). They seemed to have no concept of selecting string gauges based on my specific guitar, and different reps suggested entirely different strings. In the end, I settled on a set of strings only to come home and realize they sold me a pack of strings meant for a 12-STRING GUITAR! THEY SAW WITH THEIR OWN EYES I HAVE A 6 STRING GUITAR! ! Oh and did I mention they kept me waiting in line for 10 minutes on one person and then 5 on another who walked into the shop AND WASN'T IN LINE? I'll be returning the strings and everything else I bought there. Won't be returning again. This place is worth it maybe if you already know exactly what you want. read more

I just had the best retail experience I've had in years at Music & Arts on King Street! Hailey was so knowledgeable about PA systems and really took the time to make sure I understood how to set the system up and what its capabilities were. He took the system out of its packaging to show me all the aspects of the system as he was telling me about them and then repackaged everything for me. I would HIGHLY recommend coming here for any music needs! read more

Both my children take lessons here and both instructors have done well with them. It is also conveniently located next door to Trader Joe's and Best Buy, so while they're in lessons I can shop. The prices are reasonable, both purchase and rental and the staff is very helpful. They even put a couple strings in my guitar at no charge. They seem to hire nice, laid back musicians to work the store, so they're actually helpful when I have a music or instrument-related question. Parking can be an issue, but i've never not been able to find a spot somewhere in the lot. read more

The staff here could not be more helpful. I am a private piano teacher and have been coming here for years. They not only give a nice teacher discount, but are more than willing to order any books/music that they may not have in stock. I recently took possession of a banjo and had no idea of its worth or quality. Shirl, the manager, took a tremendous amount of time to research it for me (something I could have done on my own but he was kind enough to take the time).....this was right after I came in from the local Guitar Center where they didn't even bother to really look at it closely. They are also willing to meet any competitor's prices on the instruments. read more

This music store and studio is a great find-just outside of Arlington into Alexandria. Its a few miles away from my home in Arlington. We just moved here, and both my children have played violin for two years. Hailey greeted us and was so welcoming and explained about the studio and showed us the "music board of teachers," and their schedule. Its hanging in the studio, you can literally look at availability immediately. I not only was able w/Hailey's help synchronize my childrens' violin lesson and teachers to the same day. But-my son, really wanted to play guitar instead. So-Hailey sold us an amazing guitar and we received a 10% discount for first time buyers/he sold us the guitar AFTER we signed up for lessons-giving us another 20% off the guitar. He was very interested in every detail throughout the process. My son even got upset when we couldn't take the guitar home straight away-as their truck was due to arrive and we needed a case. Hailey went over and talked to my son-whose only 9 yrs old. He treated us like friends and was very personal. Than-after the truck came in- Hailey phoned me, and he had the guitar all ready for pick up, so my son didn't have to wait another day. He fitted the strap on the guitar, set it all up, and took it out in the store to have him play it. He also scheduled a guitar teacher the same day as my daughter's violin lesson. I mean-He REALLY took care of us. All their teachers have music degrees or masters degrees. Its a diamond of a find!! Great staff! read more
